Where would Newcastle be today if that 'fuking idiot' hadn't taken over? Not in the premiership, that's for certain.

Newcastle's main problem is that Roeder/FFS between them left the squad thin numerically and lacking quality in critical areas. There was a transfer kitty of at least £15m (Duff and Martins), perhaps there was more money available but not an acceptable player. A DoF could have let Roeder get on with coaching the players and get the players in to strengthen the areas of the squad that need improving. Mr Slugworth in his opening post said someone like Comolli. It is exactly that sort of person that Newcastle needs, not Roeder to be moved sideways to take the job because, quite frankly, what experience does he have to do the job? There was thread yesterday asking which players had come through the Academy, Gazza was the only one in the recent past. Dorian Dervite (French) and Tomas Pekhart (Czech), both now 17, were signed by Comolli and both have been added to the squad for the Carling Cup match against MK Dons tomorrow. They may not start, they may not even make the bench, but they are getting closer to the first team squad every day. Dag Alexander Olsen, a young Norwegian, joins Spurs in January after competition from Dortmund, Bayern and Liverpool for his signature. It may seem that Spurs look more and more like Arsenal in their outlook regarding youngsters for the Academy, but I am 100% convinced that this is the only way to go in the future and it is easier to accomplish with a DoF overseeing it.

You forget that their investigations into a takeover have been rumbling on for some time. How long did the Abramovich deal take? Things may have been going on in the backgroung for a while, but it seemed like a bolt out the blue when it actually went through. This isn't an Abramovich situation though, this is a Glazer. Negotiate with one shareholder then another, then another, always looking for the best value for money. Find out who wants to cling on tto their shares and avoid negotiations, and finally accumulate enough shares to trigger a complete takeover. Belgravia is a hedge fund isn't it? That's hardly the same as Glazer. Things might seem black right now, but I would still be careful of what I was wishing for.

SWP is 25 this month, Lennon is still learning and is still 19 till next April. The end product will come in due course.............. and a lot less than 6 years. There have already been links with Spurs and SWP in the press, Lennon on the left and SWP on the right. Maybe it will happen, maybe not. I'm of the opinion that Lennon doesn't have it in his locker to reach the standards set by SWP when he was at City (Aged 21-23!). I don't think the raw skill factor is the same and I although they are of similar size they don't have the same frame...I can't see Lennon devoloping the same explosive power that let SWP thunder em in from all over the place You shouldn't be trying to convince me mate, talk to Mourinho. He's the one with misgivings about SWP's ability if he's prepared to let him go for £9m. Cheap at twice the price... Wouldn't dispute that when he's on the top of his game and he'll never get back there while he's at Chelsea. Arsenal would have been the obvious destination for him but I don't think they would be so keen to have him as they were a year or two ago. I'd be delighted if Spurs signed him, he's a class act. Just think you're underestimating Lennon's ability to live up to his potential. Maybe a little. But considering my boy has done f-all for himself over the past year I'll have to win this argument for him by belittling the other guy. Sorry. bluebiggrin.gif The reason he's done f-all is because he opted to take the money by agreeing the move to Chelsea. When Arsenal bid £16m for him he should have gone. Chelsea never wanted SWP, they just wanted to make sure Arsenal didn't get him. His career has suffered as a result and he missed the plane to the World Cup as a result. A SWP playing regularly would never have been behind Lennon in the pecking order at Lennon's current stage of development.

Mourns the retirement of Alan Shearer, mentions poor old Pardew missing Dean Ashton, but forgets that Michael Owen will be out for the season. The man's got a selective memory!

I don't know whether Roeder should resign or not, whether he is a good or bad manager. To me, he will always be the man who got me and my missus 2 weeks in Mauritius for £50.

5000 inside and 45000 outside is even clearer!

I don't think anyone really knows how good Curbishley is as he's never had the finances to put together a strong team. Having said that, I wouldn't want him but he's a better option than Pardew who also may be available for work soon!
-
You've got Nigel Pearson now. He'll probably take over after Roeder gets the old heave-ho. Worth having a bet, get good odds!

That's a quite ludicrous statement/opinion - Bramble was supposed to be picking up Diouf on both goals and failed completely. This isn't the first time he has been guilty of ball watching either. I don't disagree with your thoughts on the full back position but Bramble is just as bad - his concentration levels are lower than a child's. It's not as simple as saying Bramble was poor, the back 4 as a defensive unit aren't working as a team. Maybe Bramble left Diouf for the 2nd goal because his concentration failed him, maybe he didn't have confidence in Moore to clear the cross, maybe he thought Carr would cover for him. The back 4 have to take collective responsibility in what they're doing. To blame Bramble in isolation is no different to blaming one midfielder when the MF is being overrun by the opposition or to blame one striker when there's no goals being scored.

If Campbell had been signed on a Bosman, you would have got a top class CD with the benefit of having Taylor learn at first hand how the job should be done. Taylor is a top quality prospect who is not being trained in the art of making the right decisions. The same could be said about Bramble too. Agreed, but at the time, how many people on this board were pleased that we didn't go in for Campbell? (I'd say a good 85%). Hindsight is a lovely thing. I don't think it is hindsight tbh. Detest the bloke like no other but I'm not silly enough to suggest he doesn't know to organise a back 4 and still has at least 3 years still at the top. Think it simply shortsightedness on the NUFC management who believed the existing back 4 was good enough. There will always be fans who will agree with the management on all decisions without thinking it through.
-
Roeder said no to Campbell. He's quite capable of saying no to anyone imho. (Unless he's scouted them in a dozen or so matches) :winking:
-
The rumour is that Pompey have an option to buy for £3m at the end of the season. Guess he'll be a fixture there next season.

 I like your style!! Nee one ever gets shit players on their kits. I was gutted when Faye left There were a couple of Rasiak9 shirts at WHL. I might do some stupid things at times but nothing as stupid as that!!

yeah, we have a tendancy to forget that while Zamora is a hardly a great player, our squad no longer has a Ferdinand, a Cole, a Beardsley or a Shearer 97-02 in it. the fact is, Shola Ameobi is an automatic starter for our club, sad but true and while I think Zamora is average, he's an improvement on what we have. If it was a choice of signing Zamora or Freddy Eastwood, I would go with Eastwood every time. He knows where the goal is and actually intends to put the ball there unlike Zamora.

The scum is the one he wants, he made that pretty plain when Spurs were chasing him. I think he'll wind up with them and probably go there on the cheap as well like Van Persie.

Breen was good, wasn't he?? Well, Mrs Breen thought so!!
-
You could well be right, it wouldn't be the first time that has been done.. I would keep him, let him have a full pre-season under Roeder and that may well give him more confidence. If he's no better, jog him on in January.
