FWIW seems to being reported on a number of sites, this is the Tribal Football one, but they all look to be fairly similar. Chelsea, Spurs alerted as Daniel Carvalho seeks CSKA exit tribalfootball.com - November 28, 2007 A host of Premiership clubs are on alert after Daniel Carvalho indicated he's ready to leave CSKA Moscow in January. The Brazil international attacking midfielder has been watched by Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham, among a host of major European clubs, since arriving in Russia. Carvalho now wants to leave CSKA for one of Europe's bigger competitions and has already told his agents to find him a new club for the winter market. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=67089

I thought the City fans would have been happy with his appointment, especially bearing in mind who they've had in the recent past. I would have been more than happy to have seen SGE at Spurs, even ahead of Ramos who remains unbeaten since he joined us. Still would tbh.

100 years of the PFA - every single league club's best ever player

Greaves would always come 2nd in my best ever Spurs list but will always be a long way behind Dave Mackay imho. Alan Shearer top of the pile for Newcastle? If Milburn had used a modern ball instead of a heavy old leather lump, I reckon he would have outscored Shearer easily. My mum's choice if she was still about would have been even easier .................. George Robledo. :smitten: -
At which point he should be wrapped in cotton wool awaiting sale and despatch on 1st January. I can't see anyone willing to take a risk on him for what we'd demand. He's not going anywhere. TBH nor can I. It brings forward the spectre of him spending most of his time on the treatment table waiting for his contract to run out so he can leave on a Bosman. If he had a conscience he'd........................... ok, he hasn't got a conscience.

............In a recent round of the Champions League there were 50+ Brazilian players, 30+ from each of France, Spain and Italy and 10 from England. There were more Dutchmen, Romanians, Serbians, Turks and Czechs than Englishmen............. ...................The FA lags behind other nations in the quantity and quality of their coaching. A player at an English academy has two or three coaching sessions a week; on the continent it's five per week. "Damien Comolli, the Sporting Director at Tottenham Hotspur, a London club, calculates that a player in his native France clocks up 2,304 hours of coaching between 12 and 16, twice as many as an English player. And whereas an Englishman will spend much of that time playing matches (a poor way to develop skill, as each player spends a small fraction of a game in possession of the ball), the continental player will be honing his technique."................... .....................After France's failure to qualify for the 1990 and 1994 World Cups they opened a National Academy at Clairefontaine. They won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championships, and made the World Cup Final in 2006. The FA's plans for an English version of this academy (planned for Burton-upon-Trent) has been held up for 5 years. The reasons? Partly because the money set aside was required to help pay for the cost overruns of Wembley Stadium and partly to placate the Premiership clubs that were unhappy at losing control over their young players................ Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA's director of football development, believes British players are already “damaged goods” by the time they enter academies, typically at the age of nine. http://www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displaystory.cfm?subjectid=526360&story_id=10186049 Not exactly new information but depressing reading nevertheless.

Maybe this guy: http://www.aftenposten.no/english/sports/article1412744.ece He got sacked from Olympiakos december 2006, when they was on top at the table. Season beore (2005/2006) he did win the league with them. Reason of sacking was told that he had made preperation for leaving, behind the boards back. As a big surprise for many he accepted a short term deal with his previous club A.A.Gent before this season. These days his former club Rosenborg BK in Norway, where he have been a player and a manger, is hunting him now. As the article shows; he's high rated. And he's hungry for big challenges. Maybe is NUFC to big, but I'm not sure about that. Sollied is a tough one . I think the article was discredited when it said Strachan was more highly rated than Wenger.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=496968&in_page_id=1779&ct=5 Premier League manager Harry Redknapp arrested in football bungs probe Last updated at 17:41pm on 28th November 2007 Arrested: Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp, who is the leading English contender to replace sacked Steve McClaren as national coach Police investigating corruption in football today arrested Harry Redknapp, Milan Mandaric and three other men in their biggest operation so far. The Portsmouth manager and Leicester chairman were held in pre-dawn raids this morning which involved more than 60 officers from the City of London Police. Rangers midfielder Amdy Faye, agent Willie McKay and Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie were also held as officers searched eight addresses across the UK. The move is believed to be a significant development in the inquiry wgich will now focus on the transfer of Faye from Auxerre to Portsmouth for £1.5million in 2005 and his subsequent move to Newcastle for £2m the following year. When Faye made the switch to Portsmouth, Mandaric was still the chairman at Fratton Park and Redknapp was again the club's manager when the midfielder went to St James' Park. The arrests come after the arrest in September of Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda. The 28-year-old French international moved to Spurs in a £4.5m transfer from Wigan in August of last year and was the first player to be held in the City of London police inquiry. Today police refused to give details of the identity of those held, beyond giving their ages as 69, 60, 55, 48 and 30. A police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that they have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting. “The arrests are part of the City of London police's investigation into football corruption.” The City police's economic crime department launched the investigation, code-named Operation Apprentice, into alleged corruption in the sport more than a year ago. Two people have been held so far. As well as Chimbonda, who was arrested on suspicion of fraud, a 61-year old man has been held on suspicion of money laundering. Both men are on police bail pending further inquiries. The investigation centres on alleged tax fraud and money laundering — which is believed to include claims of individuals taking back-handers in relation to transfers. Since the inquiry was launched, detectives have raided Newcastle, Portsmouth and Glasgow Rangers. Chimbonda's transfer was negotiated by McKay, who represents a number of top foreign players. A former bookie, McKay, has denied that he is being investigated by police and has said: “I think you will probably find when it all comes out, it will be nothing.”

Maybe Newcastle were never after Riquelme after all? "I do not keep resentment to anybody. Here they(Villareal) have treated me well, but things happen in life." "Juande Ramos was interested in taking me to Tottenham. But my family and I wanted to return home." http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/futbol/1a_division/villarreal/es/desarrollo/1062729.html Seems like Spurs have rekindled their interest in Arshavin, although he will cost a lot more now than a couple of months ago.

What he needs isn't necessarily the same as what he gets. I think he may need around £20m, I think he'll get less than £10m. ..................... assuming he hasn't been replaced!

It was mostly clearing the air following Jol's exit. Most were hoping for something definite about a new stadium or redevelopment but a definite answer by June 2008 is promised. As the fella who was the project leader for the Aljazeera has just been taken on board, my guess is a new stadium. I was. The twitches were as a result of a bad car smash years ago, a couple were killed in it iirc so I guess Redknapp is happy with the twictches! Generally speaking, I'd agree with you. Redknapp has had his house outside Bournemouth since he first managed them and has refused to move even when he was managing West Ham. But I know that Ashley and Kemsley have owned racehorses and that Kemsley and Redknapp have. I was told yesterday that a couple were owned jointly by all three. If that is right (and I've no reason to doubt it) that would put Ashley very close to Redknapp. He'd never sell the Bournemouth place but whether he would move up to Tyneside is a bit more debateable. I think it would all be academic if the FA offer him the England job, he would take it. His gaff in Sandbanks/Canford Cliff is well smart. Don't blame him for not getting rid. Beautiful place of the country. I don't like the man (mainly for the So'ton/Pompey dodgy dealings fiasco) but he has made a very good team down at Fratton Park and always seemed to do ok at WHU n all. Certainly would sort out man management issues we seem to have and if he could bring Adams with him would be a coup. I honestly think that Redknapp/Adams would be a dream ticket for England tbh. Redknapp has more skeletons than Fred West's semi but he's got ability to produce a team playing like a team, not 11 individuals, no matter he has in front of him. Adams just by his history is someone I detest but he's learnt a lot from 'Arry, he's patriotic, wears his heart on his sleeve and he knows how to organise a defence. Adams could prove to be Redknapp's successor in time. The FA could do a lot worse.

Wor lass will be fuming if that happened, being a pompy fan. I'll be fuming if that happened, being a Newcastle fan, in all fairness. Was at the Spurs EGM this afternoon and someone close to Ashley's best mate thinks that Redknapp will be prised away from his South Coast home to make the move up to Tyneside. I'm not saying it will happen but there are a few who think it will.

If I was convinced that the FA will definitely not offer the England job to Bent 'Arry, I would have a decent bet on him being your new manager before the start of next season.

This season: 19-21 GD, 18 pts. Last season: 21-14 GD, 25 pts. Definitely a noticeable difference. However, statistics like that doesn't tell you when the games were played, or injuries, stuff like that. I think this is being blown out of proportion, really. It's not like we haven't had good games this season. And this season, prior to the pompey-game at least, I think our defence has looked rather good. Definitely less cringeworthy than that of previous seasons. I can see a lot of similarities already between Allardyce/Newcastle and Jol/Spurs. Two people whose tactical credentials aren't as good as some would they have you believe, but both are very able at coming across well with the media. So when the results start to go wrong, the fanbase is split down the middle, those that want him to stay, those that want him sacked. Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of whether Allardyce should be sacked at this stage, the fact is that the press have now got their claws into the story and they won't stop shaking it around until SA is out on his ear. New manager in place before the start of the January window imho.

England 2 - 3 Croatia = FAIL and will not win the World Cup!1!!11

That presumably includes the gooner opera singer too!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7109058.stm Croatia rose to the occasion in their crucial Euro 2008 defeat of England - after an apparent X-rated gaffe by an English opera singer at Wembley. Tony Henry belted out a version of the Croat anthem before the 80,000 crowd, but made a blunder at the end. He should have sung 'Mila kuda si planina' (which roughly means 'You know my dear how we love your mountains'). But he instead sang 'Mila kura si planina' which can be interpreted as 'My dear, my penis is a mountain.' Now Henry could be one of the few Englishmen at the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland as Croatian fans adopt him as a lucky omen. They believe his mistake relaxed their chuckling players, who scored an early goal in the 3-2 win that put Croatia top of the group and knocked out England. The singer, who hails from St Albans in Hertfordshire but now lives in Inverness, Scotland, has performed at stadiums around the world. He was once known as the Voice of Arsenal after Gunners fans were impressed with his rendition of Abide with Me before the FA Cup final in 2003 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.............................. mackems.gif mackems.gif mackems.gif -
I think it was said that there is an option for the stadium to be sold back at a specified figure within a specified time. If that period lapsed, any purchase price would probably be significantly higher than the one currently available.

Hard to disagree with that. Robinson hasn't deserved his England jersey for a while, irrespective of what the stats about clean sheets say. My only concern is that McLaren has now decided to make the change to bring in a relatively inexperienced keeper for the biggest match for England for a good few years. It's easy to share Crumpy's view as McLaren is patently not up to the job. Should be shipped out asap imho. -
Leeds United. Hereford United. Hereford beating Leeds at home. It's a pretty big upset, mate. Maybe 5 years ago. It's the equivalent of someone like Wolves winning away at an under strength Everton, Newcastle, West Ham etc... It was a pretty strong team Leeds put out. Bates made a point of saying beforehand that progression in the FA Cup was a means of generating income to buy Elland Road back. Don't think Bates would have been shrugging his shoulders and saying 'Oh well, never mind chaps'.

I lived in Exeter while he was manager there and it was inevitable that he would move onwards and upwards, he really was that good. Unfortunately for him (and the clubs he went to), when he did move on, he never matched those heights again.
