Simpson's struggling with an injury, hence why he finished Friday on the left wing. If he's out then it'll be Ryan Taylor in at right back. I have doubts over whether he'll start Carroll and Lovenkrands, he started them against Derby at home and look how that worked out. Miles Addison (I assume he's playing) will win the majority of things in the air like he did at St. James' so playing long ball to Carroll is a lost cause. Hopefully Hughton realises this but I'd bet not. As suggested in previous posts, Smith will almost certainly return and we'll play for the 1-0.

Was a great night, a result we needed and hopefully we kick on from here. It's amazing what playing players in their correct positions can do, Simpson was more confident coming forward with a proper right winger in front of him and Guthrie is a much better player in centre midfield - even if his passing was a bit erratic at times. Harper - Not much to do, no chance with the goal Simpson - Got forward more, great cross for Carroll's 2nd. Paddy Van - As near enough a direct replacement for Enrique as you're going to get. Hall - He's massive and akward, and his head is a funny shape because headers come off at all angles. That said he keeps everything simple and it's effective. Can see him being a cult figure. Williamson - Awesome again, commanding. Routledge - Quick and direct, I like. Played a lush ball with the outside of his right to Carroll that led to the OG, and a nice ball through for Lovenkrands for his first. Guthrie - Just sat in the middle of the park and kept things ticking, but also competed well Nolan - Best from him in a while, but not spectacular. Did the captain things well. Jonas - Usual from Jonas, lots of running and committing defenders, even better now teams can't put 3 on him. Best - Good control, tidy player but he doesn't look like a goalscorer. We'll see, I'm not sure we'll see the best of him with Carroll Carroll - Good awareness for the first, great header for his second. Won everything in the air just about and will never get better chances for a hat-trick, but he was shit at Leicester so he needed this performance or else he might have been in bother.

Shola's not class or anything but his finishing is certainly not the worst thing about his game.

Hall - 4th choice centre back. Better than Tozer. van Aanholt - An able deputy for Enrique, will be gone in a month probably and Kadar will become back up left back. Best - No idea how good he is, probably better than Carroll if he can stand up without giving away a foul. Simpson - Permanent, can't complain. Harper/Krul Simpson/R Taylor Enrique(Paddy Van)/Kadar Taylor/Williamson Colo/Hall Routledge/Guthrie Nolan/Barton Smith/Butt Jonas/Pancrate Shola/Carroll Lovenkrands/Best/Ranger Should get us up, really.

Don't know enough about the guy to give a fair judgment but he's relatively young at 23 and played some internationals, so there's scope for improvement. We've probably not paid much for him with there only being 6 months left on his contract so even if he is shite we can probably get most of it back - which is basically Ashley's transfer blueprint. At 6"1 he's big but not massive so I hope he's got some pace or Hughton's mind will explode.
