Nowhere near, about a foot or so over

What an awful game of football. If we'd won 1-0 with the own goal it would have summed it up perfectly, but Ranger took his chance well having missed a good chance with a header earlier. Harper - Had very little to do but save a few long range strikes, good handling. Kadar - Started at right back and wasn't involved much. Moved to left back and attacked a bit but was good defensively, not much of an attacking threat. Coloccini - Good, still strong. One error with the Palace sub, but he decided that wasn't going to lead to anything by wiping him out off the ball Williamson - Attacks everything. Similar to Taylor but bigger and...smarter. Was easy for him because he was much bigger than their striker. Enrique - Can't pass but he makes Jonas tick. We were a much poorer team without him. Nolan - Shite. But a bit better than his usual shite. But still shite. Smith - Better than against WBA but not brilliant. Jonas - Quiet, missed Enrique. Guthrie - Worked his arse off, barely gave the ball away all night to be honest. Lovenkrands - Looked bright early on but faded. Carroll - Got kicked, pulled, pushed and barged to the ground, kept going and did his bit for the team but probably should do better in the box, the first goal was down the other end but his header should be on target, fortunately it turned out Shaun Derry is shit. Pancrate - Looked awful for the first 10 minutes at right back, was very good second half though, even crossed well Routledge - Quick, direct, dangerous, can pass - Very useful signing on this cameo. Ranger - Got his goal and gets into the positions to score, suited him playing with Routledge on the break. Palace were alright, looked every bit the side that was 11th and better defensively that some who have visited SJP this season. That said they looked pretty toothless up top and Ambrose does everything for them. Was quite a nervous atmosphere tonight, not really getting on the players back but no noise at all, except from the boys and girls in level 7 who were great as ever. Good 10 minutes of "we're Newcastle and we're going to win the league" or whatever it is, impressive.

David Craig said last week that a promotion chasing side was in for him, the crafty old badger.

They don't have the rights to FA cup highlights, so no for our game.

Behind the scenes at Carlisle United A statue of the world's first black footballer. Hartlepool do some challenge. A pundit with hair - Marco Gabbiadini - joins Danny Mills and me, Mark Clemmit! *presses standby*

3 of the "big 4" out by the end of round 4 would be refreshing

The right back candidates: R Taylor: Suspended Simpson: Injured S Taylor: Injured Coloccini: Needed at centre half Kadar: Needed at centre half, left footed. Donaldson: A striker turned midfielder, filled in for 15 minutes at RB at Ipwich when the game was all but over, likewise at the Hawthornes. Tavernier: Actually is a right back, played against Peterborough in the Carling Cup. Inexperienced. Tozer: A defender at least, overlooked for Donaldson today though it hardly matters. Has covered at left back for Swindon, don't know what foot he is. Has had some less than favourable reviews from reserve and youth watches and was shit in the Carling Cup. If he's right footed I think he'll start. Jonas: Played right back for Argentina iirc. Needed in a more forward role however. Butt: Roeder spoke about using him at the back in a UEFA cup game due to injuries. Didn't happen though. Is old and will get raped. Guthrie: Barely defends when he plays right wing, right back will end him. -
Well I'm glad we got to hear a bit of chat with Fabian Delph and Gus Poyet, nevermind important incidents from a game eh?

So the fifth yellow card of the season he picked up against West Brom doesn't count? I thought it was a week until the suspension counted? ergo, he'll be banned for the Palace game. That got abolished too. Smith got his 5th yellow against Scunny on October 20th and missed the Doncaster game 4 days later. As previously said, you can't get suspended for 5 yellows after the turn of the year, but if you get to 10 yellows it's a 2 match ban. Previously it was around February, I've no idea why it's been brought forward this season but there you go. I see PM's got you well under the thumb already. I thought you weren't moving in till the summer? Aye I'm basically his PA these days, if I had his mod duties he'd be redundant. -

Radio Newcastle still think he's playing, I reckon it must be a late injury for him to be not even on the bench. -

Radio Newcastle says: Krul, R Taylor, Colo, Kadar, Enrique, Pancrate, Jonas, Butt, Guthrie, Nolan, Carroll -
Wouldn't touch Hulse, doesn't score enough for me, and he's 31 in October. Kris Commons, however, would be useful if he can find his old form.
