  1. The difference is though that Allardyce has throughout his career worked at smaller clubs with smaller names. Hughes has been amongst some quality in his time as a player, and I can see that helping when it comes to acquiring players with a greater transfer backing. Using that last logic we might as well bring in Shearer. And how will it help him acquire players? I would think that since Sam's been in the club football business for longer, he'd have way more contacts than someone like Hughes who's still at his first club. And we've seen how that's worked out for us. We need someone who knows how to spend big, someone's experienced who's been there and done that. Any other type of manager (maybe except an unknown like Shearer/Klinsmann/Van Basten) would make the Allardyce sacking pointless. Again, no thanks.
  2. You're wrong about selling Bellamy because he needed to raise funds. Bellamy was sold because there was a clause in his contract. He hasn't been forced to sell anyone to raise funds. So I will look at his 10th place last season, and I will look at the position that Blackburn are in this season. No thanks.
  3. I'm nearly in tears here. JR would have to commentate too to make it a perfect scenario.
  4. There is that, but ultimately, everyone in the football world is linked. Diarra was no doubt being courted by a number of clubs including Spuds, I believe. You can join these dots many ways, but only the clinically insane would join them to form Redknapp's ugly mug. I reckon the Diarra deal was instigated by Mourinho who's been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks now. Most of our support are clinically insane though. I mean, we are still supporting the club.
  5. It's a bit out there but the link to the agent's there, and him mentioning Kelmsley and his link to Ashley and Redknapp's also there. It's as farfetched as a superagent calling up Oliver to ask for Mort's number tbh...
  6. James is making some good points this morning
  7. That's true, but I'm just saying, Mort could see himself as that person for now (seeing as the window will close in a couple of weeks) and signing young highly rated players is what we should be doing anyway. The logic's there, not that I'm suggesting he takes charge of all the transfer business now. Diarra was wanted by Sam, Wenger and Mourinho. It'll be a good signing either way (if it happens) because he'll improve our center midfield by a lot.
  8. Is Redknapp friends with 'the Jose Mourinho camp' then? I was actually hoping what Anal was true because that'd mean someone special, someone with real quality. Redknapp's not that and neither is Hughes.
  9. No doubt. Anal backing to talking shit then.
  10. We had something daft like two shots on goal. They should have won the game if Reo-Coker wasn't a selfish bastard. There was just no attacking intent showed by our team, and this was against a team that many said we'd have to be competing with for 6-8th. It was negative and unacceptable stuff man. I still would have given him the season just because we really have nothing to lose, but the signs were there from the SECOND game that we'd be shit offensively and only alright defensively.
  11. If he does have someone quality lined up then credit to him for having the balls to do it now Here's hoping.
  12. I don't see it as a massive problem tbh. Isn't this the way Spurs operate? Person 1 signing the players and then Person 2 coaching the team?
  13. Depends how much Ashley and Mort rate him ? He would be their choice. Not yours, or mine. What would you then say would be the reason for sacking Sam ? When replacing him with a manager who likes to wheel and deal among the 2m pound johnny average footballers ? You have to accept this, or concede that they genuinely rate Redknapp. The acid test is, how do they back him, rather than the actual choice, because we all have our opinions and they are no different to anybody else in that respect. If they see him as a reasonable manager who will hold our own in the premiership, and don't really back him, and appoint him on that basis, then I'm sorry but you are going to have to accept that their ambitions for the club are also limited, and not so much as the old board. So - do you think Liverpool etc would appoint Harry Redknapp ? After all, we've listened to people spouting off for ages that the fat bastard was taking the club backwards, lowering standards etc and anybody else would be better ? Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed this has all happened yesterday, but the fact is that now they have to show their hand now, so we will see what they do. As always, I will believe they are better when they prove it, and their ambition for the club. I think asking what Liverpool would do is quite misleading. You're right in that the real test will come in how much they back whoever they appoint, but if you're going to ask whether Liverpool would appoint Harry Redknapp, I could easily ask whether Liverpool would hire Graeme Souness, Glenn Roeder or Sam Allardyce?
  14. There's excitement in the air tonight
  15. That's good if it rules the likes of Houllier in My support for Shearer was conditional on the board wanting a British manager.
  16. Thank fuck. I'm breathing a massive sigh of relief now that it seems we haven't ruled anyone out yet.
  17. Wullie edited the title to add in an apostrophe
  18. The club doesn't need fickle supporters like you. (to maze)
  19. It wasn't really inside knowledge though. Some bloke actually ran him up asking for Mort's number. I don't think he had to use any of his contacts to acquire that info
  20. Sven knew what he was doing right away. Any decent manager will already know which players are good and which ones aren't. You don't have to spend time watching Alan Smith in training to realize that he is shite as a midfielder Any decent manager will also know the style that he wants to play and will know the players that will help him achieve this. Even BS knew this, which is why he signed players like Faye and Beye, who iirc were targets for him when he was at Bolton (obviously Faye was actually there!).
  21. He was just recently appointed manager at PSG so I doubt he'll want to come here so soon after beginning a new job. He's got a lot to prove after the Rangers thing and if he does well at PSG, his reputation will be restored.
  22. (replying to Tisd09) No, Jose would get time because he's experienced and is PROVEN. Allardyce wasn't proven at this level; Redknapp, Moyes, Hughes and the rest of them aren't proven at the level that we're aspiring to get to, which is why they're all much ado about nothing as far as I'm concerned. At least the thing Shearer has going for him is his potential and his reputation. It's not much, but at least with Shearer there's a chance he's going to be fecking awesome. And even though there's an equal chance that he'll be fecking awful, I'd rather as aim high, shoot for the stars, go all in and go for Shearer instead of appointing the aforementioned lot who won't get the necessary time from a big portion of the fans and who, like I've said, aren't experienced at that level. City got it right in the summer by appointing someone who's experienced. We'd get it right as well if we appoint someone like Houllier. But if it HAS to British, it HAS to be Shearer.
  23. 'It was a shock' - does that give something away or I am just really desperate for some information tonight?
