  1. Some of the comments to 'justify' the choices are quite funny Terry is 'most influential' - so what? Does that make him the 'best'? Firstly there should be a criterion set up so that we can argue based on that criterion, and so we can avoid people just throwing random names and justifying it with 'deserves England captaincy' - what the hell does England have to do with being a 'best' player at a club?
  2. Arena filled with sports fans at a postseason game in Cleveland, OHIO. OHIO.
  3. What are the odds that someone in that arena actually knew him and knew who he was?

    St James' Park

I wouldn't mind if we had to raise some extra money by 'renaming' it. It'll still be known as St James' Park to most people I would imagine. It's not like with Arsenal where they were building a new stadium therefore there wasn't a name that had yet stuck to the stadium.
  5. 'Jenas by name, genius by nature'... 'it sat up beautifully and said 'hit me', and my goodness did this boy hit it' The goal and the commentary was fantastic.
  6. They will be if Henry goes to Barcelona and they don't get a decent replacement. There isn't really a 'decent' replacement for Henry though. Unless they get someone like Eto'o in return plus some extra cash to buy another striker, they're going to suffer if Henry leaves. Saying that, they did just come 4th with him not being a main contributor in the least so you know they'll be strong next season, as usual.
  7. If we can get Ben Haim signed soon, and with the Viduka deal agreed 'in principle', it'll have been a massive few days for us.
  8. I think Giggs is the best British player of the last 20 years. Well ahead of Gerrard for me. Always thought of Giggs as more of a 'supporting cast'. Maybe it's just because of the position he plays in? When I think of the old Manyoo teams I think about Schmeichel, Cantona and Keane. The first name that comes up isn't 'Giggs' and that for me is usually a defining quality that the 'greats' possess. Saying that, there's no doubting he has been quality, was special when he broke onto the scene and his longevity makes him a really really good player, but still not a footballing 'great' for me.
  9. EMO and FAB for me. They'll be awesome up front. Viduka to hold up the ball and bring the midfield into play and Owen to poach in the box. Looking forward to it already!
  10. Yes. Agreed. But with Gerrard he's actually won things and proven that he can carry his team on his back. Some people I talk to still think it's lucky that his thunder-strike against Olympiakos went in because if that didn't go it, there'd be no Istanbul, coming back from 3-0 etc. but that's just a fucking pathetically irrelevant hypothetical situation. The fact is it did happen, he did carry his team on his back and will be remembered as such. Even if he only wins a couple more small trophies before he hangs it up, I reckon he'll be remembered as a great. Edit - He needs the league and that'll do it for me.
  11. Don't think Giggs is a footballing great myself. He was never the 'it' player at his club, the driving force that won them trophies and was the man who carried the whole team on his back. Gerrard, on the other hand, well, we'll see at the end of his career whether he's done enough to be considered a true 'great'. He's on track atm though.
  12. He made a mistake, one which didn't end up being costly btw so I don't see why he needed to retire. Or why he's still retiring now. The fans will get over it, and it'll blow over eventually. No need to give it all up.
  13. The signing bonus is why it's being done. And of course the new rule about being able to buy out their contract and basically become a free transfer. Isn't that what Flamini is planning on doing btw?
  14. Name is actually pronounced with a 'Y', so it's 'Yokdeniz' with a Turkish accent of course. He's alright, I used to watch highlights of the Turkish league with one of my mates and he's decent. Versatile, has some pace but pretty small and his control and technique is only decent. For a £1m though, he'll be good value, no doubt about that.
  15. It's the same thing with Ashley man. He's said all the right things through his 'source' till now but of course, we won't know what he'll actually do when (if?) he gets full power. Anyone who's looking to buy us will essentially be focused on the profit at the end of the line. SJH, Freddy, Ashley, whoever really. And the only way they're gonna get this profit is if we're successful enough.
  16. Voted Ashley but actually interested in the Chinese bloke. Do keep an open mind. We have no idea what his plans for the club are. Who knows? Maybe he's willing to throw more money at the club than Ashley? He already does own one football club so he'll have an idea how to run it as well. Keep your mind open until all this is decided for us because it's not like we can actually do much about it. It'd be a real shame if the new owner bought in and is instantly disliked by the fans for no real reason.
  17. Gerrard was actually decent man, what you on about?! He scored 2 goals and generally did more than just about everyone but Hargreaves. Rooney was only shit because of the injury/being unfit though I'll give you on the Lampard thing because he definitely was atrocious.
  18. He was good before he moved to Bayern but since then he's been in and out of the team (like the rest of the Bayern strikers). Still a good player imo and will accept his squad rotation role.
  19. Just in case anyone has forgotten, it's not like England played well the last time Lampard was 'dropped'. Here's a reminder.. Read from page 9 onwards.. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=37700.200 Lampard gets too much of the blame for the whole team being ineffective and shit. Joe Cole did fuck all today, and there wasn't any support from the fullbacks either. Lampard and Gerrard don't mix, true, but it's unfair to actually blame only Lampard and conveniently forget that England were pathetic in the last game in which he didn't play and everyone seemingly got their wish.
  20. I don't think it's worth the risk personally. £8m is just too much for someone who hasn't looked interested in football over the past season, especially for someone so young and actually unproven. Where's the drive? Where's the hunger? I refuse to believe that it can actually just disappear because he couldn't complete a move away from the club he made his name at. He's had one good season and that's it. Not worth £8m imo.
