How much? 3m?
-
What happened to the thirty million, like? I'm all for moving on players who no longer want to be here for reasonable fees but 750k? What a pisstake, this isn't 1988 FFS

Kluivert got a standing ovation when Barca dicked us 3-0 at home in the CL. Murdered us that night. Was 2-0 in the CL. And he got one in the friendly too Sadly I wasn't old enough to go to the Juve 1998 friendly Stuart Pearce scored a blammer from a free-kick
-
I think he's on about the 98 friendly v Juventus. Carroll game against Juve was July 2007, just looked it up. Del Piero game was definitely Aug 98
-
Del Piero played in a friendly at St James' in 98, I remember it well because we'd just signed Hamann (in fact I think he scored in the game) and I moved to the US that summer, we played them right before I left in August and I remember Del Piero getting a great reception, standing ovations when he took corners etc.

Was that the Del Piero standing ovation game. I'm nearly sure that was 98 and the Carroll game was more like 2007/2008 or around there.

Newcastle United transfer rumours in the press
LionOfGosforth replied to Kaizero's topic in Football
Think he was highly thought of at Bastia. I just think most deserve time under Rafa and his coaches, rather than just getting rid, unless of course they actively pursue leaving. The bloke only played 12 games. Besides, full faith in Rafa to decide if he's worth keeping or not, whatever he decides is fine with me and that includes getting rid if it comes to it. He will be coaching him every day and can see first hand if he has it or not. -

Have not seen that anywhere, he was quoted as saying that? Or is it an assumption based on him being a forrin and our relegation? -

Most of our players who are keen to stay and perhaps have not performed as expected prior to Rafa, should be given a clean slate. Toves is no exception. Can't underestimate how shit our coaching structure has been for literally years, until now. -
Semtex - are you aware of any streaming apps that include BeIN? I just cut my cable and trying to pull everything together, wanted this channel. Go90 is a free app with Verizon. Cheers

Utterly insane on the face of it. That fee would put him in the top 10 or so all time wouldn't it? For a player with barely 100 career appearances for Barnsley and Everton and nothing achieved of note. But aye, let's pay more for him than Figo or Zidane However, the money is almost irrelevant to them if they can take a still quite raw, decent player and progress him. Crazy amount of money, the league has so much of it swilling around.

Even better, I have an unused firestick that I was going to setup at some point, so if I can get it on there that's mint. Thank you sir

no chance imo 3m tops, get him out. the f***? i'm not one of them, just saying we're not likely to get our money back not that we should sell for less than we value him sake It wasn't aimed at you, you quoted Tubes who is a firm believer in just getting players out quickly and cheaply. Probably should have just quoted the original post not the reply -

Yep, especially since he's older than everyone thinks, what else could he be lying about -

Tubes is probably Lee Charnely's internet persona. Wonder what Tubes thinks of Shelves?

Fulham - Newcastle United - 5/8/16 @ 7.45 - Live on Sky

Got a weird (naturally pessimistic) feeling we're gonna lose this one to a daft goal, like a deflection in the last minute. Dominate but lose. -

Me too. Well not nervous exactly, just a bit of apprehension. Think the season will be more of a grind than some think with quite a few close, tight games, unlike 2009/10 which was a procession almost from the start. Will be a relief to get started and if we get a few wins on the board early doors, will help everyone relax. *edit to add* I have full faith in Rafa to make the adjustments that are needed but I wouldn't be shocked if we start out a bit slow in the first month or so and even lose a game or two. -
See I don't get this, why do you think he'd improve so much under Rafa this season. Everyone basically looked like s*** before Rafa came in, but within a few games he had most of them looking like new players. But Wijnaldum was one of the few still looking no better, one of those who ended up really costing us when we failed to win against Villa. Wondering around the pitch like he didn't have a f***ing care in the world. Personally think he had already decided to leave by then. If he wanted to commit and grow under Rafa, there was a player worth keeping. He wasn't, whether the club had sickened him early on and Rafa coming made no difference, I don't know. I think he would have improved under Rafa if he was prepared to put the work in and he just wasn't. Talented but a gutless waster, think Liverpool might regret buying him eventually.
-
I know what you mean. I'm largely pleased he's moving on, I mean what's the point in trying to keep a player who doesn't want to play for your club, regardless of ability? He probably only performed in about 8 games all year And the fee is more than we could have expected really. That said, he showed in flashes what he could do, in those games he looked so quick and smooth, great at arriving in the box at just the right moment with an eye for goal that few of our other players have. I can only imagine he'll have some eye catching displays for Liverpool next season (probably all at Anfield while the sun shines) and it will piss me off a bit. Yeah he's gutless and it's particularly galling given he really does have ability in there. You wonder what he might have been able to produce with more heart and consistency and also time under this coaching staff. Ultimately he wasn't prepared to bother, so fuck him. Invest the fee properly and we move on

Doncaster Rovers 2 - 2 Newcastle United - 20/07/16 FT
LionOfGosforth replied to 54's topic in Football
Can't understand what they were doing. Result of zonal marking or what? 2 free headers for your opponents in your box from a corner is never good news. They were both standing in yards of space, so many players could have marked/and or picked them up and didn't. -

Darlow is fine as cover, too early to be sure on how Sels is going to do, can take keepers from other countries at least a year to settle and adapt, even the good ones (Schmeichel, De Gea etc). Elliott is just average and fat. Unless we get offered silly money, i'd also prefer to keep Krul.
