I think it's a fair point to suggest that today's challenge would have perhaps only been a yellow if it wasn't for that stupid challenge three seconds into his first PL game, but then he did make that challenge and today's looked between a yellow and a red too if we're being honest. He's already lost the benefit of the doubt with referees, and sadly he has mainly himself to blame for that.

It was a stamp and intentional or not, he was nowhere near the ball. If he wasn't doing it every game then he would probably have gotten away with a booking, but he looks massively clumsy in the tackle to me, and looks likely to do this every week. I agree. Whether intentional or not, a clear pattern is emerging regarding being a bit slow in full blooded tackles. He needs to learn very fast or he will spend half the season being banned.

There were like, in the pre game thread. For him and certainly for Bigi (me amongst others). It just makes no sense at all to play Gouffran in centre mid, and to suggest such a statement can only be made in hindsight is laughable.

Where's Bigi btw? He could have easily played in that position too if Kemen is somehow deemed not ready.

Are people seriously suggesting that playing Gouffran in centre mid ahead of giving a young promising midfielder courted by Europe's elite a cup game vs league 2 opposition in his correct position is defensible because it's less risky to play the senior player who has proven time and time again to be absolute poo (in that position)?

I don't mind Gouffran as much as most on here seemingly do, but why three successive 'managers' keep playing him in midfield or out wide while it couldn't be clearer that he's useless in these positions is baffling, league two opposition or not. Why not for example give Bigi a game in his natural position to see what he can do if we a absolutely cannot risk any first teamers there (gotta love that new cup policy)?
