Good on him that he's done reasonably well this preseason but the fact is he shouldn't have got anywhere near the pitch time he has had. Didn't he leave SJP once last season when he found out he wasn't in the match day squad. I'd love to hear what Ben Arfa has done to Pardew to have been frozen out whilst we continue to give valuable minutes to a player we know isn't good enough and hasn't acted professionally (either?)

By this stage of preseason wouldn't you normally expect to see something resembling your starting XI (I know they played yesterday), or is it all about fitness, and if so, why give starts to the likes of Obertan who is unlikely to feature much anyway?

The signing of Ferreyra must spell the end of this saga. Can't say I'm too disappointed, seeing as he probably only saw us as a last resort, much like last season.

I don't think we are. Cabaye hasn't been replaced like for like (even though I don't think he was the creative force for us some seem to believe he was), but we've brought in some very good players in their own right who provide us with some much needed pace and intelligence (mainly Cabella and Siem de Jong). We've upgraded on our squad players (Shola and Gosling out for Riviere/Perez and Colback). I like the look of Ferreyra - if he's committed to the cause and lives up to his potential he could well be an improvement on Remy (who was indeed a very good player although with questionable attitude). Janmaat for me as good a replacement as we could have got for Debuchy. We've also lost Marveaux who barely played (thanks Alan), and it's doubtful that we will see much of Mbiwa and Ben Arfa, but assuming they stay and they fight their way back in contention I don't think we will have gone backwards at all.

We're still weaker than this time last year despite having tens of millions to spend. No excuse for this bullshit. This time last year we hadn't signed Remy (on loan). I doubt many would take that squad (with essentially no strikers worthy of the name except Cisse) over this current one tbh. Pretty obvious I was referring to the point before the start of the season when we did have Remy, like. The end of the transfer window then? I'd say we're arguably better off now, but a lot of that depends on whether the new arrivals can adapt to the Premiership. Also, we may not be done recruiting yet, or indeed letting players go. Far too early to say whether the squad will be better or not; I'm just glad the cunts in charge have acknowledged the necessity to strenghten. They've failed to do so many times.
