Who else was in for Enrique at the time? Genuinely can't remember there being anybody else than Liverpool.

Decent chance their asking price has just gone up a few mill considering there are now 3 Premiership clubs in the running.

London factor is well over played it only has any relevance if your successful. For s*** teams it's hardly an advantage at all. If he chooses Fulham or West Ham over us he wants his head looking at. Have we had a bid accepted for Douglas like? My post was using the scenario that all 3 clubs had accepted offers. Of course i know we haven't. But i don't consider Fulham and West Ham a threat, the only way they beat us to signing him is if we get cheap and don't give Twente what they want. Didn't you say similar regarding Luuk de Jong? Anyway, to discard West Ham and Fulham as serious contenders for his signature is incredibly arrogant and shortsighted if you'd ask me. Did i? in any case that was a very different scenario, Twente were asking for ridiculous amounts they are not this time. How do you know? Assumptions based on reports in the media. Do you not think FC Twente will want to maximise its fee, especially now there are apparently 3 Premiership clubs in for one of their players? Again, you are passing assumptions of as facts if you think NUFC will just meet whatever asking price FC Twente may have in mind and he will then choose us over them as we are obviously a much more attractive proposition. Don't you ever learn?

He could just stay at Twente if that's the case.. You're seriously kidding yourself if you think money doesn't come into it when a player makes a decision on his future.

Well if he joins a club like Fulham or West Ham for more money then we are best not signing him. People keep saying this as if it's some huge honour to represent us. Maybe for a born and bred Geordie it is, but I imagine for most football players any transfer deal is a tradeoff between wages, club profile and player prospect/squad role. Realistically we have to compete in the wages department just like everybody else if we want to attract the best players.

2 million prize money For the pre-season tournament winner, aye. At least, that's what RTG seems to think.

Finished 1-0. Chance of 2 million prize money gone. Shame..
  11. How's he cracking under pressure already exactly? Not sure if serious, but I'll oblige anyway. He's alienated his new club's biggest investment, made himself look like a fool in public by making completely contradictory statements (probably because he's been pulled up by his superiors behing the scenes), gone after players from his old club despite a supposed gentlemen's agreement (and still claims he respects Swansea and they respect him) showing no imagination to implement his ideas on a higher level (I know), and finally he's talking about other club's players whilst claiming in the same breath he's not the type to do such things. In short, he behaves like a walking, talking PR disataster for his club. Not bad for a month's work I would say.
  12. The man's cracking under pressure already. Hope they crash and burn this upcoming season.
  13. Shame. Excellent player when his body didn't let him down. Will Spurs be looking for another central defender, or is Vertonghen his replacement?
  14. A 4-3-3 would make sense, especially with Anita as a single holding midfielder with a box-to-box midfielder and a play maker. I was under the impression (apparently wrong) he was seen as utility player, to be fielded alternately as either DM or left full back. Yup, and going by your avatar and text I'd guess you are as well Other than Dutch football I have an interest in the EPL and I keep track of Dutch players in England. With Anita being a possible candidate for Van Gaal's future national squad and all. This is one of those potential transfers where the media like to blow a lot of smoke. My experience is that talking with other fans tends to provide a bit more clarity on the matter than reading sports-news. Welcome to the forum. I can do with some more Dutch representation, especially as we (NUFC) seem to be more and more active on the Dutch transfer market.

Sounds like the 5 of you in black and white are in a bit of a pickle? How many of them are there?
  16. Would you say Sewelly is on a crusade, seeing as he posts more than me on this subject, or just me because you disagree with my opinion? Over 3 or 4 threads you are clearly the common denominator Edit: And what in the hell has my opinion of it got to do with what i said. Its becoming a habit of yours to ignore the actual post and go off on your own agenda You either don't have one or are unable to express it by the looks of it. Not wasting anymore time on you.

  18. Difference is Carroll achieved those stats in 2 half seasons give or take.
  19. Widely reported at the time (January 2011), with quotes from old 'arry backing it up (the offer, not necessarily the amount).
  20. Are you Dutch Ilsteir? What brings you here if you don't mind me asking?
  21. Agreed. That would put us in a really strong position as long as nobody else has come in that Carroll would consider moving to and Carroll has been fully ignored by Rodgers. The only problem is where it would leave us if the plan doesn't work. That won't enter into Mike's thinking though, unfortunately, so I would be surprised to see another striker/forward come in before deadline day.
  22. That said, has there been anything anywhere but sky saying Anita has told Ajax he wants to leave? Actually appeared on the Voetbal International website later. Maybe Talksport does have a source inside Voetbal International that passes them on this sort of information after all.
  23. From the official Liverpool website: Changed his tune hasn't he?
  24. "There has been a lot written and spoken about him but first and foremost Andy is a Liverpool player," said the boss. "To consider a loan period for someone the club spent £35million on isn't something we're looking to do at this moment in time. "Andy will be the same as every other player - if there's ever an offer that comes in we'd look at it as a club and see if it's going to be worthwhile for the club and the team as a whole. "The club invested £35million in him. People talk about whether he can fit into my style or not, but if you're a club and you spend £35million on a player you'd like to think he can fit into whatever style the team plays. "He's a good player. He'll join the rest of the group next week and we'll take it from there." Sounds like the Americans have given him his first bollicking..
