What's the theory for why we're signing this guy now then, given he's seemingly been available all summer and the first links were in May? Must be a reason for why we'd only pull the trigger at this late stage; especially with Longstaff having been gone nearly a month. Uncertainty over how much we'd be spending on a striker, or something else?

I explained in the rest of my post.

Injury record doesn't concern me tbh. Yes he's had issues but, once again, I'll choose to believe Howe, Nickson et al aren't braindead and have considered that risk. If they're happy I'm happy. More good stuff. Wissa next and finally I can be smooth.

I would agree with that. My position I suppose is that A, I can't hate us for chasing perfect and B, I think we're cornered into operating that way because of PSR. It doesn't make us a shambles or the summer a COLOSSAL FAILURE, particularly considering everything else that's happened, and the fact it isn't finished.

Because that's more punchy! It basically does mean worse though, at least in the minds of our recruiters. They don't think they're as good as option to spend our money on.

it isn't strawman at all. Our PSR limitations mean we can't afford to miss, even at the expense of *GASP* not having everyone in for matchday one. As always, I'm not saying they're infallible, I'm prickling at the totally unfair accusations of shambles, 'indefensible' etc.

Based on our near impeccable recruitment record. Also:

So they should've tried to buy worse players in the first place, got it.

Said it the other day but honestly think the biggest clue of all to his supposed requests being horseshit was his inclusion in the kit promos. I genuinely don't think we'd have done that if he'd asked to leave. We can omit someone from those videos without setting hares racing too, because the squad is full of ballers. Again, Bruno - arguably the biggest icon at the whole club - wasn't involved in the biggest kit marketing campaign in a generation last year.

A top five post-takeover goal for me.

I think the point is that due to his reach and gravitas in the transfer game, he's being used by agents etc to drive a narrative, therefore you can no longer put maximum weight into what he says. Hopefully people will start seeing that quickly and it'll be the end of him as the self-appointed guru.
-
So you'd be happy with a worse player sooner than the right player later, I assume?

As soon as it was Outtara and not a Euro random I had a feeling it would slow it down further.

Meanwhile Downie reported that the Thiaw deal was all Big Mad Andy.

Given the noises about Villa's PSR situation, our need for a CM, and Ramsay's profile, I half expected him through the door in the first week of June tbh.

We've gone back and forth on Tripps and there was a time where selling him seemed best for all parties. Not a chance now imo; I'd hate to see him go, and I'd really hope everyone involved thinks the same thing.
