If roeder were still the gaffer, people would be going apoplectic about this [alleged] transfer. They would also be hyper critical of the transfers made so far - a mentalist Man City reject, a fat, lazy striker from 'boro, and a defender from a French team that finished 15th last season. There's an awful lot of "Big Sam know's what he's doing" blind faith going on that was never afforded to Roeder. I hope it's justified. Difference being, Roeder would never, in a million years, have signed any of those players. We won't have signed anyone by now.

On the otherhand, we could sign him now, and when he returns in November, it's like having an out-of-window new signing on our hands. Who's going to need atleast another month to get used to playing football again, and is going to need atleast another few months to adapt to the league - at his age. On top of already being paid masses for doing absolutely f*** all. If he's injured for ages, it's an absolutely rediculous signing. why? why, he'll miss the first 2 1/2 months of the season, so what was anyone complaining when we signed Viduka who's likely to miss the first month If he's out for 6 months, it means he's out until December, if you can count. July, August, September, October, November, December. And that's around four months missing the season. Where we'll be paying him big wages, to sit on an injury table. And, where Viduka has played in this league for a hefty segment of his career, and is proven in this league, Edmilson doesn't know it - and needs to adapt. The guy is injury prone anyway. What would be the point, especially when there are so many other options?

The original of that gerbil thing... what word comes up?

Tbh!

Doesn't look good. Can imagine Sam will probably pass on him.
-
According to SSN: We're linked with Gudjohnsen / We've agreed in principal to sign Edmilson Whether either are accurate, we don't know. We could be after someone totally different for all we know. Think it was mentioned that Motta wants out......
-
Hehe it's a nice thought. "If you give us Gudjohnsen we promise to take Edmilson off you n'all." "Hmmm..." *strokes beard*

I reckon so too. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's being brought in as a holding midfielder to challange Butt and as 4th choice centre back, behind Taylor, Roz and Mr. New Defender. In that case, and presuming the extent of the injury isn't so drastic, then it's a very decent move. Very shrewd. However, like i said before, i can only imagine he'll be brought in if his injury isn't as significant as first thought - because i simply cannot see Sam Allardyce signing a player, and paying him large wages every week, for him to sit on a table for 6 months. If he is out for that long, then Sam will turn him down.
-
The versatility is just about the only thing that i'm keen about. We could do with another defensive mid, and he can also fill in at centre-back, which is good. But still. We'll just have to wait and see.
-
Plus, there's so many other options. This enquiry doesn't fill me with an awful lot of hope. If we get Edmilson, plus Rozenhal, there's the two centre-backs that Sam wanted. I'm all for squad-filling but, whether or not we do sign another one, i'm gonna be like Optimistic Nut now; we can do better than that.
-
My gripe is that he was a Brazilian international, playing for Barcelona; he's hardly going to ask for tuppence-a-week. We're going to be paying him absolutely stacks for fuck all, and there's every chance he'll be shite when he does come back. Like you say, Sam's probably gone over their to find out the exact details of this injury, before making any enquiry/formal approach. And i would have thought, Sam will definitely say "no thanks" if the extent of the injury is so vast. If we sign him, then he'll only be out for a few weeks.
-
Meh, no gripes with that. We might aswell hang onto him unless we do sign two left-backs.
-
Yup, probably. The papers exaggerating as usual, atleast i hope so.
-
Of course, but it would be nice to see him holding a toon shirt in his hands on .cock "Sunderland have pulled off the biggest steal of the summer so far in clinching the signature of David Rozehnal from under the noses of rivals Newcastle United." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/6244972.stm http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4974/53139268copymw2.png WTFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mackems.gif

Think of the reality of it - Sam is not going to sign a player who is injured for 6 months, is 31, not very good, and needs to adapt to a totally new league on top of all the injury worries. Sounds absolutely insane. He's either after a different player, or this injury is nowhere near as bad as first seemed. I just find it too unrealistic to comprehend.

Schmuck's an awesome word.

Aye, and in this case, we don't know what would happen. Gudjohnsen/Owen would only be short term, 1 - cos Gudjohnsen is ageing, he's got two years in him at most, and 2 - Owen'll soon be buggering off. Pointless. Which is why i say, i'd rather Owen left for Gudjohnsen, rather than Martins. How do you work out Gudjohnsen only has two years in him at the most? He's not even 29 until September. He doesn't rely on pace, and his style of game means he can be a top top player for another 5 years probably. 2 years at his excellent best, imo. We just don't know do we. I'm more than happy and dead optimistic either way, and just excited to watch how it all pans out. Sorry to come across all HTT-ish, but i'll leave it all in the capable hands of Sam Allardyce.

Tbh, Martins, Owen, Gudjohnsen, Viduka, Carroll ... is an absolutely immense line-up, as much as i have faith in Shola. Plus when you consider we'll be playing with a front three (possibly), and the likes of Milner and N'Zogbia come into the mix.

Would be Beardsley-Cole all over again. For about a season, aye.
