Got more chance of signing Bridge than we have Heinze, imo. Heinze will go to someone like Madrid. Plus, i'm inclined to believe Mr Whatever, over on Skunkers.

Heinze is a good shout but considering his potential other suitors, we might have to go above the £5m mark (plus huge wages) to bring him in, which just isn't worth it for someone at his age and with his recent injury trouble. We could get Bridge for less, and i'd consider that a top, top signing. If we were to sign Bridge - that'd be the signing of the summer for us, regardless of who else we might bring in. Still reckon we should punt for Campbell, test the water with a £3m bid or something. If Pompey ask for anything higher than £4m, then forget it. I know, it's still a lot of money for a 32-year-old, but he's got unadulterated quality, he's mean, and would bring on the Taylors and Rozehnals already at the club. Plus, considering he already is still playing so well, there's a chance he can enjoy some of his best years of his career here, given Sam's track record. And if we'd get Beye aswell, that'd be another option for centre-back, yet offering a more suitable right sided defender than Nobby or Geremi. Beye, Campbell and Bridge for around the £10m mark would be excellent business. Reserve these 'huger funds for massive signings' for January, when we can review the squad and see where we need to make this top signing... Those three signings would leave our defense offering these options: RB - Beye, Geremi, Solano, (Carr) CB - Campbell, Taylor, Rozehnal, Beye, Ramage LB - Bridge, Babayaro (Basically just repeating what i said in the 'who would you sign now' thread)

If we wait and he comes back in superb condition then they will double or treble the asking price. That's the problem. A gentleman's agreement with the player won't be worth anything, because if he comes back fine and they want to keep him, he's hardly going to beg for a move to Newcastle. Big Sam obviously has faith he'll come back OK, or seems prepared to take that gamble, in the hope that we secure a good fit player for a bargain fee. But to do that we have to stump up the money now. If we wait until January we could turn our noses up at a crocked player or we could see his price shoot out of our reach. It's now or never IMO. Tough choice.

And watch Allardyce and Shepherd be literally laughed to death.

Yup. And i'm susceptible to it as any, not afraid to admit. The constant change of strips ruin the heritage of historical football kits a bit for me, being a traditionalist. But when the new shirt comes out i have to have it. Just going back to Midds' point... We've had lots of kits which are totally different though...

Providing people haven't already bought the home and away kit. If this kit was a stunner, and we had it guaranteed for two or three years, and it was guaranteed that we'd actually wear it (IE, it was an official away kit and not an alternate kit) - people would buy it. However, this is totally different. Even if it is a nice kit, i'm not going to bother with this, and i'm one of those who'll buy shirts willy-nilly. I've spent £110 on Newcastle shirts already this season, and i can imagine plenty others will have done aswell. It's blatant exploitation. We don't need this kit in any way shape or form. Just, if it takes a fiver to make, they're gonna squeeze atleast some profit out of it by releasing it. I said masses wouldn't buy it, but some people will. It'll do well in 10 or 12 years as a collectors item, no doubt. A la the Sheffield Wednesday green kit.

One or the other for me. And i'd rather it be Babayaro, seeing as he actually has some ability. Still, i fail to see how Babayaro fits into Allardyce's plans if he's after two left-backs. Agree with Jamesmartinsmith, sign Beye and one left-back, and let Carr go.
