  3. Newcastle are tracking Liverpool's out-of-favour winger Jermaine Pennant and Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner. (News of the World)
  4. Joe Cole`s a London boy isnt he? Not sure if he`d fancy moving oop north.....unless KK can convince him Newcastle is closer than Watford or something like he did for Rob Lee (Boro)...I very much doubt we have any chance of getting him
  5. That list of players Man U are supposadly after makes little or no sense. Why do they need 3 more central midfielders and another winger, arguably the two places where they are most covered. I agree though, the two Wiganers look decent. Agree with palacios, that guy has an engine and a half. 4m for Esteban Valencia and 6m for Palacios...according to the press. If that is their true asking price I think they`re well worth it
  6. how about Luis Valencia? He`s looked a very good buy for Wigan from Villareal and he might add that bit of South American flair on the right wing for us. That Palacios looks good as well. Incidentally Man U are both linked with them today. I`d prefer either over the likes of McGeady who are not proven in the EPL
  7. Owen in the money as Newcastle set to pony up new four-year £20m contract Last updated at 22:40pm on 16th April 2008 Michael Owen will open talks over a new £20million four-year contract at Newcastle United. Owner Mike Ashley is ready to tie Owen to a £110,000-a-week deal to replace the one which expires at the end of next season. Manager Kevin Keegan has been keen to negotiate with Owen and his advisers since guiding Newcastle away from the relegation zone with an unbeaten five-game run. Ashley is preparing a summer spending spree and the club are also on the verge of announcing a £90,000-aweek deal for Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins, who has already agreed the four-year contract in principle. Owen scored four goals in four games as part of a three-man strikeforce before the goalless draw at Portsmouth on Saturday, when he was denied a certain goal by England team-mate David James. The former Liverpool striker, who joined Newcastle in an £18m switch from Real Madrid in the summer 2005, has started Newcastle's last 16 games, easily his best run in his injury plagued time at the club. He has scored 15 times in 33 League starts for the club, and Keegan said after the 3-0 win over Reading 12 days ago: 'I've already started to say we should be talking to Michael now, not next week, not next month. But now. 'Michael's not going to stop scoring goals, he's not going to stop catching the eye and Michael is going to be wanted by other clubs.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=560156&in_page_id=1779&ct=5
  8. The lad is still only 19 and has impressed in the couple games he`s played for Australia. I wouldn`t mind offering him a new contract and sending him out on loan to a championship side to see how he does ----------- Roda JC have given up on signing Newcastle youngster James Troisi. The 19-year-old midfielder spent time on trial in Kerkrade during the Eredivisie winter break and he left a good impression on Roda's management. Roda wanted the Australian international on a permanent deal, but Newcastle were demanding a fee. Troisi is out-of-contract this summer but as he has come through the ranks at Newcastle and he is under 23, they would be due compensation. Troisi is yet to find out whether he will be handed a new contract by Kevin Keegan, although the Adelaide-born starlet is hopeful of getting an extended deal. just read that post......maybe withdraw that offer if he was worse than Pattison ffs!
  9. Fumaca'd have something to say about that. agreed. Typical that we sign one of the few brazilians that dont know how to kick a football

    Finisher

    I doubt juve would agree
  11. Solano? I guess the fans had more to do with that I suppose. Tim Krul possibly too
  12. how about Stephan Appiah? He wanted to leave Fenerbache earlier in the season to Schalke but that didn`t go through so he might be available
  13. I`d start Harper too. I`m sure Given will moan again like he did in the past iirc if he`s not in the starting XI so I wouldn`t mind selling him.

  15. he`s out for the season....not particularly bothered tbh. -- Shay return is put on ice by Keegan Apr 15 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle SHAY GIVEN is unlikely to play for Newcastle United again until next season. This has been revealed by United boss Kevin Keegan who says he sees “no sense” in giving his Republic of Ireland keeper a run-out before the end of the season to prove he is over his long-standing groin problems. The Chronicle revealed on February 26 that that the 31-year-old keeper would need an operation that was likely to keep him sidelined for the rest of the season, and this has turned out to be the case. Given could be excused for wanting at least one game under his belt before the end of the season to prove to himself he has made a complete recovery. But Keegan and his medical staff have taken the opposite view and they feel that it would be best for Given to start again next season. Obviously, should anything happen to Steve Harper then Keegan would have another look at his goalkeeping situation, although he clearly has confidence in young Fraser Forster, having given him a new contract only last week. When I asked Keegan if Given would play in any of United’s remaining four games the United boss told me today: “I doubt it. “I think he’ll be fit by the end of the season, and he’ll train with us for maybe the last week or 10 days, but there’s no sense for him to play a match. “He just needs to know by the end of the season that he’s fit, ready to go away and come back fit for pre-season with all his problems behind him. I think that, for him, will be a massive relief.” Given will be especially disappointed not to be involved in United’s next two matches – Sunday’s derby and the visit to West Ham a week on Saturday. The keeper had a loan spell with Sunderland in his days at Blackburn and Upton Park is where all his groin problems began in 2006 after a clash with Marlon Harewood left him with a perforated bowel. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/04/15/shay-return-is-put-on-ice-by-keegan-72703-20766188/
  16. Good stuff ---- I hate them an awful lot. Here are just some of the reasons why: The Sugar Puffs advert. Freddy Shepherd's arrogant speech about the Rolls Royce and the Mini. Keegan. Circa 1994-1998 from Carlisle to Dover (Excluding Sunderland) every other football top you seen was a Newcastle one. The Geordie Nation bollocks. Liam O'Brien. When we had Ian Snodin and Gareth Hall they had Les Ferdinand and Ginola. Mags booing Martin Smith in 94 at the England match. Shearer's salute to the Fulwell End. Endless Youtube videos taking the piss out of Sunderland by obsessed Mags who can't spell. Mag tops in Shiney Row, Penshaw, Herrington, Seaham, East Durham. Newcastle Utd's new strip advert that appeared next to the Wearmouth Bridge. That fat t*** (Beefy?) from Jarra. Malcolm McDonald. 1-4. Mike Ashley. The Mags that turned up against Gillingham in 87. The fact that only 1 in 20 Mags is a decent person. The rest are complete arseholes with an unjustified arrogance and a gob the size of the Tyne Tunnel. -- I live in Newcastle now and my girlfriend is a Geordie so I know that most are nice people....until they talk about football... they talk about us as if we are s*** on their shoes. Gets my blood bubbling just talking about it.
  17. I read somewhere that some Toon fans refuse to buy bacon because of the red and white appearance
  18. here`s an archive article from bbc "When is became clear that Newcastle were not going to take up their option on the player, Kevin moved very quickly and we a delighted to have Sylvain on board," City's director of football Dennis Tueart told the club's official website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/1998106.stm
