  1. Slightly unfare - he did sign Okocha and Anelka at Bolton - both were/are technically sound players. as well as Youri Djorkaeff and Hidetoshi Nakata
  2. ----------Jaaskelainen----- Richards - Dunne - Woodgate Elano - Barry - Arteta - Petrov Berbatov - Santa Cruz - Anelka Subs; Agbonlohor Cahill Bentley Corluka Young
  3. If we have the money, do both. Its hard to look past Ashton's injury record, but this is where Big Sam is meant to excel, so getting in a target man who is simply better and far more consistent (when he does play) then any of the other s*** forwards we have up front would be a step forward. On top of that, hes come back from injury looking a better player imo, his touch and general linkup play has definately improved. Ashton is one of the few big forwards who could play in Big Sam's preferred system. Big risk as hes definately a crock, but if we can keep him fit hed be a huge bonus for Big Sam. Worthy gamble at £10million, but only if we bring in another pacey forward or two and ship out Owen/Viduka, otherwise we'd have a striking squad full of slow crocks and none of them compatible with each other. wouldn`t go as far as that
  4. Probably been mentioned, but Tiago to West Ham or Spurs. Would like to see us bid for him but I doubt it
  5. José Quitongo, Angolan player in the SPL there`s actually quite a few players by that name, colonies formerly of Portugal and Spain
  6. being linked in one of the papers with a FC Porto player called Claudio Pitbull Fantastic name
  7. according to ITV http://www.itv-football.co.uk/story/0,19239,6145_3018974,00.html We`ll be losing Jose Enrique and Claudio Cacapa to the African Nations Cup
  8. Everton are supposedly after Daniel Van Buyten on loan I wouldn`t mind seeing us try to get him also
  9. They wouldn't even have to be that expensive! Maybe a playmaker from the continent that can unlock a few doors would do just to tide us over, and get a bit more movement in the midfield! I'd actually be tempted to raid some russian clubs for a little gem you think Russian clubs still sell their players for next to nowt these days? Many are as rich as EPL clubs
  10. Newcastle is a dream job - Sven SVEN-Goran Eriksson has rubbished Sir Alex Ferguson's claim that no one in their right mind would manage Newcastle United. Manchester United boss Ferguson had spoken out as the pressure on his close friend Sam Allardyce intensified. But Manchester City manager Eriksson – whose side take on Newcastle at St James's Park tonight – says it is a "dream job". He said: "People might say 'would anyone choose to manage Newcastle?', but then you might say 'would anyone choose to manage England. "They're both dream jobs. You're talking about a big club, a fantastic stadium and support – nobody would ever say no to that job. "Sam Allardyce has thick skin and he can stand up to what's happening there and resolve it. Everyone knows he's a great manager."
  11. Out of interest, who did he and who did he not want? He was quoted as saying his first choice defenders were Distin, Ben Haim and Silvestre.
  12. From nufc.com (if you didnt see it already).....then again, it is David Pleat mind The 26-year-old currently plays in the J-League for Shimizu S-Pulse and was described as follows by David Pleat in his Guardian 2006 World Cup column: Players who have one outstanding quality are more advantageous to a team than an individual with several characteristics but no top attribute. A previous mentor of mine once called such players "over-round mediums". This South Korean centre-forward looked a colossus in the air when playing against Switzerland, particularly in the second half. His energetic running constantly troubled the Swiss defence as he foraged down the channels. In the first period he did not receive the service to make me sit up and see this quality in the air as he was marked by Philippe Senderos, who did particularly well before succumbing to injury. But in the second half, when South Korea had to go a more direct route, Jae-Jin was first-class, jumping well, aggressive and always aware of colleagues to whom to place the ball. Shimizu S-Pulse, his J League team, have a target man who should be watched closely. He played like a traditional English centre-forward when teams played in a direct style. I saw similarities to Kevin Davies at Bolton and past heading giants such as Tommy Lawton, Nat Lofthouse, Tony Hateley and, more recently, Alan Shearer.[/]
  13. that usually means The Chronicle report the opposite
  14. Arsenal signed a nobody manager from the J-league to turn their season (and future seasons) around He wasn't really a nobody after seven years at Monaco though was he? Just not a very well known manager at the time. I know mate, just a bit bored at everyone slating the fella before he`s signed and have never seen him play. As for Wenger, I `m pretty sure the majority of people outside of the EPL didn`t know who the hell Wenger was when he went to Arsenal, and didn`t expect him to cut it in this league (even Tony Adams said he wouldn`t play under a Frenchman initially), coming from the Japanese league. Anyways, I`m sure if he signs, Allardyce will play him out of position
  15. Arsenal signed a nobody manager from the J-league to turn their season (and future seasons) around
  16. to be fair, the other Korean players have done fairly well in the EPL. Seol did very well at Reading, Park Ji Sung when he`s played has held his own and Lee is back n the 1st team under Juande Ramos at Spurs. Only Boro`s Korean player has been rubbish so far(well all their attackers have been crap too) ffs, if he signs give the lad a chance. 18 month contract and on low wages......make a few bob in Asia, I don`t think there`s too much to lose
  17. Wigan's Sibierski planning to wind-up Barton Wigan Athletic striker Antoine Sibierski believes Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton can be talked out of today's game. Sibierski has identified Barton as the biggest threat to his team's hopes of escaping the Premier League's bottom three today. And he makes no secret of his intentions to wind up the volatile Newcastle ace. Sibierski, 33, said: "Joey is a really good player with great commitment but he is also a bit mad. "So if you are a little bit clever when you face him you can provoke him and know he is going to go mad and see red very quickly. And for Wigan it could be a good thing if we can get him sent off."
  18. I think they would have learnt their lesson from the Ashley Cole business last year unless they like being sued
  19. believe it or not, he signed for AC Milan in the summer (barely plays, mind)
