  1. of all the skilful attacking Brazilians out there we have to sign we go for a defender :-[ btw, Brum also after him ------------------------------ "It's incredible - on the same day two English clubs are fighting over me," Alvaro is quoted as saying in The Mirror "Levante have the final say but going to Newcastle is perfect. "To play in the Premier League will be sensational." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3091829,00.html
  2. with NZogibia suspended I would like to see Troisi be given a chance...Lua Lua also. Where they are upto EPL standard, who knows but ffs the`ll give us more creativity and enthusiasm
  3. wasn`t exactly a fan of Shola before but I`d start him ahead of Smith if I had to choose!
  4. United bid for Barnes vetoed NEWCASTLE United have failed in a bid to bring Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes to St James’s Park. Derby boss Paul Jewell turned down their unspecified bid yesterday – and the ball is very much back in the United’s court with the transfer window slamming shut in a couple of days’ time. Jewell said today: "Newcastle did come up with an offer yesterday, a verbal offer, but it was nowhere near our valuation." The 19-year-old midfielder, nephew of former West Ham winger Bobby Barnes, looks set to leave Pride Park, especially as Derby are heading for the Championship, although their new owners may try to keep all their promising young players. The word on the grapevine was that Barnes was heading to his uncle’s former club at Upton Park, but United have shown their hand. It was Barnes who grabbed Derby’s first goal in the 2-2 draw with United at St James’s Park before the turn of the year and he ran the midfield that day, especially in the first half. However, United have had better luck abroad and they are tying up the signing of an Italian teenager from Serie A outfit Atalanta. United are refusing to say who it is until he has put pen to paper, but they have put £300,000 down as their first payment on the deal. The man behind the signing of is United’s new European scout Jeff Vetere, who has already started work at St James’s Park. Vetere, who spent 12 years with Charlton Athletic and has also been with West Ham, has keen keeping in touch with the best young players on the continent after a short spell with Real Madrid. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/01/29/united-bid-for-barnes-vetoed-72703-20407463/
  5. Ya. He won't last 5 minutes up there. why not? He`ll probably score a hatful of goals in that mickey mouse league
  6. he might bring back Paul Huntington to the club
  7. Exactly, especally as he is still so young. I am very surprised Villa aren't in for him actually, as they are apparently looking for someone to play on the right. havent seen alot of hm but i thought he was an attacking central midfielder and not a winger?
  8. Have a look at Ameobis, he looks like Ronaldinho FFS. Aye I think someone should compile videos of all the bad things they do so you get a balanced picture of the player! somebody already did one of Ameobi on youtube. Not sure if I can post a link though for the compilation though it`s titled The Great Shola Ameobi Compilation shocking stuff
  9. It wasn't that long ago - around the time of the last WC i think - when many members on this forum dismissed Adebayor as being 'a glorified version of Ameobi'. Keegan has compared a potential Shola Ameobi to Emmanuel Adebayor, and wonders why Shola cannot be as good as the Arsenal hit man. Keegan said today: “If you look at Adebayor, what I would say to Shola Ameobi is what I saw of Adebayor a year and a half ago when he first came on to the scene is what I saw of Ameobi when he first came on to the scene.” “That guy has kicked on and Shola has had injuries and other little problems, I guess, but he is 26 now and I don’t think it is too late.” “Everywhere you go when you see a performance like that, you can say to a player, ‘He is a similar size to you. Has he got more ability than you?” “Well, it would look so at the moment, but truthfully, I think Shola has got a lot of stuff packaged there that hasn’t quite come out properly yet.” “People might say Alan was dominating when he was here - of course he was; so was (Thierry) Henry, but Adebayor has gone straight in and filled his boots.” “That’s not easy, that’s almost as difficult as filling Alan Shearer’s here.”
  10. I`m think he`ll end up playing for a team in black and white stripes
  11. and he`s already injured ---------- TOTTENHAM beat Aston Villa last night when they finally landed centre-back Jonathan Woodgate — and he is already crocked! Woodgate has a hamstring problem that could keep him out for a fortnight. And fans fear he could be another Darren Anderton, dubbed Sicknote during his Spurs days because of his injury woes. http://thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article737590.ece
  12. He can`t even get in the Derby first XI. I`ve been on a few Derby forums and there are mixed reactions about him. Alot of their fans reckon he`s a lazy sod http://forums.thisis.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=4270&start=15&tstart=0
  13. 2m? i doubt it ---------------- From BBC Newcastle are set to pay £2m for Derby winger Giles Barnes. (Daily Mirror)
  14. apparently keegan new nowt about Wise coming ----------------- Keegan Mystified Over Wise Appointment Kevin Keegan has almost embarrassingly had to admit he was completely in the dark over the appointment of Dennis Wise as an executive at Newcastle United, as King Kev's revolution is so far failing to go even remotely according to plan... It started with an abysmal showing in a goalless draw against relegation strugglers Bolton Wanderers - a side Keegan's predecessor Sam Allardyce routed 3-0 on the opening day. It has since developed with several speculative transfer targets with no happy ending, the Shearer-Keegan dream team not coming to pass, a tame elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Arsenal, Jonathan Woodgate rejecting the club for Tottenham Hotspur, and now, Dennis Wise has apparently been appointed as director of football with Keegan having no part in the decision-making process. It is an embarrassing reality check for the Toon Army, as Keegan spoke to the media of the situation yesterday. “I am reluctant to tell you all I know as I really do not know everything," he admitted. "I just do not know enough about it. So it is pointless me saying something or sitting down and saying to you this wasn’t quite right or that wasn’t quite right.” http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=564981
  15. barca were wanting more than 8m in the last transfer window
  16. apologies if repeat post. ------------------------------------------------------------- Newcastle boss Keegan promises 'Wow' signing Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan says if he is to make a signing this week it will force everyone to sit up and take notice. "There's an evens chance of us getting one player in this week," Keegan told the Sunday Sun. "To get two in now we'd be swimming the Channel, I think. "But you never know, we might surprise ourselves and the last week of the transfer window invariably sees clubs make decisions which make you think: 'Wow, I never expected that.' "We're only looking at Premier League players. We're not looking to bring anyone in from abroad unless they were really world-class and established, and invariably they don't come around in this transfer window." Even Dimitar Berbatov has been mentioned as a possible target, despite a price tag of at least £30 million. When asked about the Bulgarian star, Keegan insisted: "I wouldn't rule anybody out. We're looking at every team and I`m sure everybody else is looking at our players as well." ---------------------------- I guess Van Buten is ruled out as he`s not `world class and established` and who exactly is looking at our players?
  17. Van Buyten`s injury record hasn`t been that impressive either in th last 2 seasons but would like to see him here
  18. It`s all Shearers fault man!!! ---------------------------------------------------- Shearer cost Newcastle Woodgate deal Jan 27 2008 by Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun ALAN SHEARER’S decision not to become Kevin Keegan’s No 2 cost Newcastle the chance to sign Jonathan Woodgate. That is the shock reason the Sunday Sun can reveal for Woodgate’s decision to move to Tottenham rather than return to United. Newcastle thrashed out a proposed £7 million deal for Middlesbrough defender Woodgate on Friday. But Woodgate will instead move to White Hart Lane – having agreed personal terms and undergone a medical there yesterday – if Spurs and Boro can agree a fee for him. And Woodgate’s father last night revealed Shearer’s snub to Keegan as the deciding factor in his son rejecting a return to Tyneside. “The only way he would have gone to Newcastle is if Shearer was No 2 to Kevin Keegan,” Alan Woodgate told us. “He is going to Tottenham. I have driven him to the station to go down there today for a medical and talks. “Provided it all goes OK, the deal should be finalised over the weekend.” http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/newcastleunited/sundaysun/tm_headline=shearer-cost-newcastle-woodgate-deal%26method=full%26objectid=20399420%26siteid=50081-name_page.html

    Arthur Cox

Terry Mac: I Felt Like Crying When Coxy Came Back TERRY McDermott admits that he felt like crying when Arthur Cox walked into the Magpies training ground earlier this week. The 69-year-old former Newcastle boss has returned to the North East to take up a position on United's coaching staff under Kevin Keegan - the player he brought to Tyneside in a sensational move back in 1982. And that was the same summer which also saw Cox bring Terry Mac back to St.James' for his second spell with the club. The trio, aided by the likes of Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle, went on to propel the Geordies back into the top flight of English football during the memorable 83/84 campaign. And Toon coach McDermott says that it felt just like old times when Coxy turned up at the club's Benton-based training complex on Monday. "I felt like crying when he came in to the gym to be honest," Terry told Newcastle World TV. "He is a fantastic guy and everyone loves him."
  20. gash not for the reported 7m price tag, another overpriced average British player
