  1. Sheffield Wednesday fixture on Boxing Day has been moved to an earlier kick off for Sky ( 12.45 ) Nice bright and early start to travel after the Christmas day hangover then
  2. Foreign players, in particular South Americans are not brought up/trained in the way British wingers were. Their game is more about dribbling, keeping the ball on the deck, quick passing, playing though balls on the deck.....not the old British way of sticking to the sides, running to the byline and then high crosses to the big centre forward.
  3. no need to spend......you can take Nicky Butt off us on loan for a couple months as cover with a view to a permanent transfer.
  4. can`t say for sure but googled his name and most results/forums say attacking midfielder or right wing.......certainly would fit both needs as we lack badly in both.
  5. don`t see what would be so cheeky about it? Spurs want rid of him by the looks of things.
  6. Why have they been given an extension? La Liga does that on some circumstances, where you lose a player for the entire season for reasons beyond your control ("out for the season" injuries being the most common one). You have to sign a player that plays in the same position of the one you lost. In this case, they lost one of their midfielders on the night of deadline day to Zaragoza given a buyback clause, and La Liga gave them 30 days to sign a replacement since they couldn't have planned for it (and they are disputing the way Zaragoza triggered that clause). Tottenham winger Giovani dos Santos will not be able to join Deportivo La Coruna until January due to loan restrictions, according to the Spanish club. La Liga outfit Deportivo have confirmed their interest in the Mexico ace and the player is believed to be keen to leave White Hart Lanein search of regular football. But Deportivo claim Giovani, who was taken off injured after a rare start for Spurs in Wednesday's Carling Cup win at Preston, will not be allowed to move until 2010. Deportivo sporting director Ricardo Moar has stated that the Spanish Football Federation has ruled that only players based in Spain can become loan arrivals. Moar said: "It is impossible to bring Giovani to Galicia. "We like him very much but the Spanish Football Federation has clarified we cannot bring a foreign player in. They would have to be (based in Spain)." We should get him in till xmas. Would do all parties well. Totally agree with this, would be class in this division and he is just what we are looking for. With Hughton & Calderwood's contacts at Spuds (and Ashley's for that matter!), I'm sure this could be a possibility if they wanted to make it happen. certainly did well for Ipswich last season.......I think he is more of a striker though? If that:s the case then I am not sure if we`d be in for another one considering we just got Harewood. What is max number of loans we can have anyway?

  10. Shearer speaks about Toon job (video) http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/09/18/shearer-i-won-t-wait-forever-for-nufc-hotseat-72703-24723739/
  11. I was watching that on tv and jumped so high I nearly went through the ceiling...one of my all time favourite goals. It helped that Ian St John who was co-commenting on Ch 5 nearly had a stroke he was so angry it was a 97-98 league game, was channel 5 even on the air then? confusing it with zeljeznicar (spelling ?) i think. I'm probably mixing it up with the Champions lague qualifier with the Croatian team. I will never forget that moment when Temuri scored that last minute winner in Zagreb to send us in to the champions league......amazing
  12. bound to be on a future ep of "when animals attack" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29vIP68_pk0&feature=player_embedded#t=41
  13. I Dreamt Of Magpie Move Watching Temuri - Zura By Craig Hope ZURAB Khizanishvili was just 16 years old when he first dreamt of playing for Newcastle United as, at home in his native Georgia, he watched fellow countryman Temuri Ketsbaia launch his now legendary attack on the Gallowgate End advertising hoardings. The Mad Monk, as he was affectionately christened on Tyneside, broke with the tradition of a one-armed salute to the Toon Army or a congratulatory hug from team-mates following his match-winning strike during the 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers in 1998 - instead, in the process of tearing off his shirt and boots, Ketsbaia repeatedely volleyed the Addias board behind the goal. And, for budding young footballer Zurab, who completed a three-month loan move to United on Thursday, it was a moment which certainly left an impression. "I was only 16 and watching at home in Georgia when Temuri scored that goal and started kicking the boards," laughed the 27-year-old defender as he spoke to nufcTV on Friday morning. "I remember watching Temuri all of the time for Newcastle and dreaming of playing for such a big club like him. "He was one of the first big names to make it in England and we all supported Newcastle because of that. "Temuri is a very good man, a little bit crazy, but a good man who is now one of my best friends. "I played with him for the national team and then for a short time at Dundee, he was a great player and a strong character. "If I can be half as popular as him then I'll be happy. I spoke with him this week, hopefully he will come and watch me play!"
  14. was gonna sat Olivier Kapo from Wigan.....but looks like he might get a fresh start under Martinez now that Bruce has gone. Would have been a nice addition on the wings...
  15. Ranger's quick enough to catch pigeons - Holloway BLACKPOOL boss Ian Holloway reckons Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger will be a real handful in the Championship – as he's quick enough to catch pigeons! Ranger dropped down to the bench for last night's game at Bloomfield Road after three successive starts. While Andy Carroll – who came in for the 18-year-old – more than justified his return by scoring Newcastle's goal, Ranger has made such an impression for Chris Hughton's side his pace up front was missed, and some fans felt they should have been paired from the start. Ranger almost stole a point for United in injury time after coming off the bench, with defender Stephen Crainey stopping his header on the line. Asked about Ranger, the eccentric Holloway said: "Have a look at their sub when he came on – he can catch pigeons that boy. Deary, deary me!" At the other end, Holloway's side caused havoc for Newcastle, whose defence – and indeed team – he rates as the best in the Championship now those who don't want to play for the shirt have departed St James's Park. Holloway said: "If you look at their back four, arguably they're one of the strongest in the division. "I think they've got rid of a lot of people who weren't really wearing the shirt with pride. "They've kept a group of people who have really set about us. "They didn't come here and not fancy it, they were at it, and we were at it, and we just managed to scrape a victory. "I was delighted we saw it through at the end, with all the big lads they've got." Winger Hameur Bouazza was a constant threat for Blackpool, and Holloway added: "I said to the squad, 'if you watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks, one of my favourite films, that's what Hameur can do'. He can blaze a trail, and we need that. "It was a fantastic performance from him to unlock that back door, and open up a back four."
  16. on an olypiakos forum they said Ketsbaia told the fans that the club hasn't played attractive football in 15 years (he would know he played against them) and was outspoken against the management and BANG! Sack a coach a few games into the season. PS: Zico is the new coach.....must have just edged out Bryan Robson then
  17. Maybe he`s already here and Zurab is his first signing
  18. why do you say that? Nowt spectacular but he`ll do a decent job in the CCC. Plus he can cover a couple of positions incl defensive midfield.
  19. heard West Brom were trying for him too.......hope we can get Kamara in the end also
  20. JOSE ENRIQUE admits he is more used to preparing to take on the mighty Barcelona than Blackpool. However, with the Bull now looking almost unbeatable in the Coca-Cola Championship, he says Newcastle feel confident enough to take on anybody at the moment. The former Villarreal ace once took a walk with his La Liga team-mates down Las Ramblas in Barca, but United’s players will take in the Irish Sea air with a backdrop of the Blackpool Tower and twinkle of the town’s illuminations to boot – all of it a far cry from Enrique’s days in Spain and the Nou Camp, the Mestalla or the Bernabeu. Yet Enrique told the Chronicle: “At the moment, if you put Manchester United in front of us we would be confident of beating them, maybe even Barcelona! “We must be focused on beating Blackpool. I don’t know Blackpool because I have never played against them before. “It is the same as the other games – it is a difficult game, as we play away. “It is more difficult for us, but I think we can win the game. “We have a confidence now, and we know if we want to go to the Premier League, we can win all the games.” Enrique did not want to leave Newcastle in the summer because he is settled on Tyneside, but the £6m defender, who played in the Champions League with Villarreal, has so far undoubtedly been one of the best players of the season at second tier. He feels this quality is oozing throughout the United side with 496 minutes elapsed since the last league goal snuck into the Toon net. He added: “We have good players for the Championship. “If we score goals in the games we keep clean sheets, then we win the games. “It is important, and when we keep a clean sheet, it is because of the tactics. “They are very good now. “When you keep five clean sheets in six games, you know the team is defending well.” However, the Blackpool fans will be desperate to see that record dented tonight, and will whip up a spicy atmosphere with the famous Bloomfield Road drummer waiting to do his stuff for Newcastle’s visit. Yet Enrique is not intimidated by any away crowd. He said: “Against Cardiff, it was very good because the stadium was full. “The atmosphere in Championship games is very good. “The fans were singing and speaking all the game, but I don’t listen to that. “I can only speak for myself, but after five or 10 minutes, I don’t listen to the fans. We play the game. “The atmosphere is not a problem.”
  21. Peter Lovenkrands ready to start at Blackpool PETER LOVENKRANDS has indicated he is ready to start at Blackpool tonight. The Danish ace came on as substitute to make his second Newcastle United debut in 2009 on Sunday at the Cardiff City Stadium after returning to the club at the start of the month. Lovenkrands is clearly up for the challenge of getting United back to the top and says he is champing at the bit. He said today: “It is up to Chris and Colin whether they want me to start – I will be happy just to be involved. “I know I will have my time to get in from the start. “I will have to wait and see what happens.” Lovenkrands is likely to be needed to lead the line of attack alone or partner Nile Ranger or Andy Carroll at some stage with Shola Ameobi classed as a longer term injury. Newcastle have sent Ameobi away for a short break just for a change of scenery, with his foot injury expected to rule him out for up to two months. Yet Lovenkrands can also operate on the flank and he added: “In training I am playing as a striker. “We have Jonas Gutierrez coming back, so he can go on the wing. “We have great wingers, and up front we have some injuries, so I hope I can get more time up front. “With the players we have, it will be great to be up there – it is a very exciting line-up on paper.”
  22. is he out injured until December or are the newspapers full of bollox as usual today?

  24. West Brom want to sign Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara on loan. (The Sun) Baggies boss Roberto di Matteo also wants to agree a loan deal for Blackburn defender Zuran Khizanishvili. (Daily Mirror)
