Good set of results for us today. Norwich losing and Villa only managing a draw.

There's 13 who any team outside the top5 would be in contention to start imo. Marveux and Anita need another season before we can really see if they are in regular contention/perform. Broadly agree with you, there is a fair spread of internationals. Think it's fair to add that before the Jan window Pards was having to start PL games often with only 5/6 Purples.

Our first choice 11 is is as good as/better than anyone outside the top 5.

He always has more time than he seems to think.

Still think his all round game is too erratic for someone like Bayern.... he actually reminds me of Mario Gomez except Gomez is a lot stronger and more of an aerial threat. Gomez is dogshit. They've been trying to turn this genemix plank into a striker for about 5 years. He'll take down the euro. He's not dogshit.... very limited but knows how to gain a yard or two to get into positions to score goals just like Cisse. But yeah they are much better now they have a striker who can link play and press the opposition effectively. It's basically that he lacks a lot of movement and awareness. Germany playing the one with three behind rotate it around a lot.

Love the way everyone has tiptoed around this.... It's a QF of a european competition, you're at home, you need two goals....GO OUT THERE AND TEAR THE FUCKERS APART!!!!!!!!! This opinion has been brought to you by Parky TM other opinions are available. *

Pardew has said we must defend for 70min - it's the new football. It's the future and oneday we will defend for only 69min...But then he giggled and said "Only jokin innit".

This is a classic I've got a hard on but will put ice on me dick post. Why bother living?

He's instictive, but his movement is a bit dopey with regards to offside. He wasn't cheap.

Even not fully fit he goes past them like a ghost.

I'd normally agree. But he had the tactics spot on. Would've got murdered pressing for the goals the whole 90 Bingo. I've slated Pardew for most of the season for the negative stuff but I can completely understand how we played tonight. Any Benfica goal killed the tie stone dead, going hell for leather from the off would have left too much space at the back. We clearly got the first and threw everything at them to get the second and had Benfica on the ropes. We just couldn't quite finish the job and get the second goal. We were forced to show a bit of restraint due to being 2 goals down from the first leg, it wasn't like we started the tie at 0-0 tonight. No blame attached to Pardew tonight from me. I have defended Pardew more than most, certainly you in recent weeks, but I just can't understand this way of thinking at all. This was a game in which we needed a convincing win, a once in a lifetime opportunity to get to the semis in a European competition against a very beatable opponent, as we saw last week. Since we were two goals down we essentially had nothing to lose at the start of the match, and all to gain. Just go at them from the off, put them under pressure and try to get an early goal. Yes, you may not get the early goal, tire badly and get picked off later in the match as you run out of steam, but I don't think anybody would have complained if at least we would have tried. As it is, we tried to calculate our way to the semis, sat back for far too long, looked nervous and unsure what to do for the entire first half and gave them the initiative, resulting in a good number of chances for them that could, and arguably should, have seen them through well before the "planned" point in the game when we finally spurred into action. It was all very reasoned, and counter intuitive to any football player, and that showed through in our performance. In the last half an hour we showed we were capable of hurting them, partly through bringing on our creative players. I would much rather have seen at least one of them (Marv) from the off to get Benfica on the back foot early on. In short: the fact that the gameplan nearly worked should not be mistaken for it being a good gameplan. Surprised Marv didn't start. Giving respect is one thing but cutting off your own arm is another.

Not sure if Marv was inj but he had a massive impact when he came on. Probs should have started him. Not really complaining think we've had a good competition.
-
Fit Hatem would have scored when he cut inside. Still made the goal within minutes of coming on.

Cheating and time wasting starts.

Historic night awaits. I can feel it.

It'll be Chelsea or ManC. He knows if he goes to Chelsea he can later do ManU so it's going to be tough for them to get him to ManC.

He's got a bit of pace, a good dribble and works hard. He's in the mould of a support striker with the ability to come deep. Good player and as time passes he'll get some goals as well.
