Our biggest problem with him is that he doesn't realise he's getting things wrong and that he needs to find other solutions. That's what that grin is. He thinks it will just magically come right ie we'll work on the training ground. PL managing is 90% in the mind. McClaren isn't very self aware, his head is befuddled with loads of old 'positive' coaching practices but on matchday he is very unconnected to what is going on...You can see the bemusement come over him when things go wrong. He doesn't realise yet he is failing and untill he does he won't look for other solutions.

I honestly don't think he'd start in any other PL side bar maybe Villa or Norwich and even then maybe. He just isn't ready.

The PL is one of those leagues where coaching isn't enough. The manager must either inspire fear or have bags of charisma. He has neither.

A 21yr with a lot of heart but no pace will struggle with such weight on his shoulders, especially in a side such as ours. I'd imagine even under ideal circumstances it would have taken him a season to learn what is going on in this league. He's on a hiding to nothing and once he missed a few his confidence is gone. The club absolutely refuses to pay the money needed for a top striker with pace and instinct cause they don't come cheap.

We sit deeper away just out of fear and that leaves him with fewer options when he gets the ball.

Our tempo is noticeably slower in away games. Probably instructions from island head.

If you're not playing a recognized striker play a 433. Even Ibra would struggle the way we play the 4231...Only ever 2/3 players available in the final attacking phase.

I can't imagine they'd gamble the PL survival of the club on some old crock from the Ruski league who doesn't like training.

Looks in his mid to late 30's...But for African footballers that's nothing. He'll score 10 or more goals no worries.

Might be trickier than it seems at the moment. The balance of power has shifted slightly and the mid-table sides are fully capable now of beating a top 4 side. Much more than a decade ago. I do agree with your general point tho. A real test would have been a 10yr project outside a top 4 club.

He's ideal for the PL. Strong, brave with a bit of determination. He'll fight you for your lunch.
