couple of seasons ago in one of martins first few games for us, the ball dropped at the back post and he failed to get on the end of it, someone stood up, red faced shouting 'you're number 9 for newcastle united man!' and someone else chipped in with 'aye, you're not fit to wear that shirt!' it was one of his first games for us ffs, they'll never change

last few posts aren't what the thread's about imo, shitting yourself and going a bit quiet coz the team drops deep to protect a one goal lead for half an hour is different to barracking a player in the first five minutes for mis-placing a pass, booing their name before they play or while they come on (we've seen this with owen as well as shola) or one of my personal favourites, getting irate because one of our players takes too long to take a throw in. one of the biggest problems i reckon is most of them have either never played football before or have forgotten what its like, they're totally un-realistic.

to be fair he's probably getting asked loads of questions regarding sale of the club, next manager etc because he's the only one at the club saying anything at all

I loved how Barton almost ran straight for the ball as soon as the penalty had been given. So full of confidence and so eager to prove himself. Showed signs of captain material tonight IMO, gave instructions to Enrique before the game and Colo when coming out after half time. did anyone notice barton go to give martins a high five before kick off and martins just ignore him and walk past? i wonder what joe will do when owen's fit, can anyone see him dropping shola the way we play now? by the way i didnt think bartons penalty was particularly good, perfect height for a keeper to save, not much power, not in the corner, just got lucky with the way the keeper dived. fair play for getting it in the back of the net though, obviously, have to say aswell i liked barton taking it coz i always shit myself when martins steps up to take pens.

would've been nice to see martins anticipate a few ameobi flick ons like (i know, i know), you dont get much standing square of your strike partner. barton and guthrie far too square for their goal, and aye duff gifted it to them but it happens, i'm getting sick of enrique like, looks heavy, never plays a pass confidently, just very un-convincing. Jonas made a massive difference and it was nice not to have to shout at Butt, hopefully barton and guthrie can get a bit more organised and keep him out of the team, for the rest of time. a horrible second half, but still, Barton 2-1, £75

I don't even think he's found form particulalry, but this is probably the wrong game to throw Barton in at the deep end. At home against West Brom would have been a better time for Butt to get injured. butt hasnt found form, but since we're bypassing the midfield when we have posession he isnt getting a chance to play any of those trademark killer passes to the opposition
