Another "Owen: is he past it?" thread.. but with a poll
Dr Venkman replied to McCormick's topic in Football
at the minute his best attribute seems to be receiving to feet and bringing others into the game, which i think he's very good at, but lack of pace and us not creating is just making him pretty sterile as an attacking force -
from what i can see we need a creative central midfielder or two, a right winger, a centre half as good as faye, and an entirely new set of attacking options the players we have for these positions at the minute are either too old, too injured, too crap, or all three, and thats just the players we NEED to replace, nevermind backup and squad strengthening

I said this when he bought him. Nice to see him hopefully coming good at last, after being labelled unnecessary etc. Load of bollocks really if you examine the fact that Solano was getting older, and it was a good price for a good player. haha, you have to get something like that in every thread dont you, good on you

I flicked Five Live on a few times when away from my television, now that was complete and utter tripe. And 6-0-6 is hosted by Steve Claridge tonight. i was getting so in infuriated by how many times the camera cut to sam throughout the whole game, especially the minute long close up on his eye, let us watch the match man!

I'm not entirely convinced that the manager has that much say over the style of football/way the game pans out once the players cross the white line. It's not like it's just Allardyce who has overseen second halves like that after decent enough openings here recently. The players aren't good enough for one, the conditions were terrible, everything else was against us. I don't believe for a second that he's told our lot to go "more direct" at half-time. If anything, it was plainly obvious that if we played some football then we might win it. If it wasn't the manager who told them to play direct, it wasn't the players. i'm confused, who was it then, god?

faye and taylor were great, enrique looked promising but made a few mistakes, typical foreign youngster smith was rubbish, butt was defensively better but creatively rubbish zoggy, not as effective as when playing from deep, duff looked dangerous but still looks like he needs more speed, whether its there or not i dont know owen looked good first half, didnt waste a ball, faded second half, viduka was average lua lua looks very promising pleased we're still in the draw, now can we buy some creative players please?

For unless they genuinely wanted the publicity, a top agent wouldn't need to go through Oliver or the switchboard. YOU'RE alan oliver!

Dr Venkman replied to WarrenBartonCentrePartin's topic in Football
commentator in the arsenal match has just introduced our game later on as 'big sams big banana skin' oo er -
depends on the transfer fee, he's a decent enough player i suppose and already suited to sams methods, but we do dearly need some better players than him

saw an interview with marcello lippi very shortly after capello got the england job, saying that because of the language barrier he personally would never take a job in england, just thought i'd throw that in who knows whether its true or not, oliver seems like a right tool though

isn't spence implying that mort is mentioning having these players back as a round about way of saying 'we dont need to buy' not that i necessarily agree, but that seems to be what he is getting at
-
ignoring all other aspects of his game by the time he came to us, i thought kluivert had a fantastic first touch

got bolton signing written all over him, by the sound of it

13 million? yes please -
mackems.gif I think this thread should now be closed and made a sticky after that classic piece of tripe above. were i to play devils advocate and ask what gave it its tripe like qualities, what would your response be? My response would be that if you can't see the obvious for yourself it isn't worth my time explaining. I imagine by now you've read posts from others of the same belief as myself. Ask one of them, they may have more patience with your type than I have. Cheers mate, its a forum, i ask you very nicely to explain your reasoning and you come back with that, you just make yourself look like a dick to be honest, you've got this good cop bad cop split personality in your posting where you try and come across as the voice of reason but with posts like this you reveal yourself to be an extremely arrogant, small minded fool i've been nothing but civil towards you and you continue to say things like you dont have patience with my 'type' and that i'm not capable of discussion, yet with your constant sniping and ignoring direct questions it seems that you're the one incapable of debate i've had enough, get f*****

Man Utd reject Newcastle bid for Wes Brown - SSN
Dr Venkman replied to WarrenBartonCentrePartin's topic in Football
...ahem i wonder if we're going for both brown and ben haim or just one or the other, if what the papers are saying is true and chelsea want 2 mill for ben haim then i can see us paying it like he's been dodgy for Chelsea at times like hasn't he? have to admit i've not seen him play much at all this season, thought he was good at bolton though and it wouldnt surprise me if sam thought he could get him playing again -

It's actually both and he has neither. Get rid. I disagree with that, there is so little time on a football field to think about what you're doing there cant be any thought processes with the ball at your feets, its all sensory feedback. i think there's a big grey area, its difficult to seperate 'talent' and 'intelligence' imo, as i'd say that anyone that can use their brain well in sport is talented in a way i guess the easiest way i'd try and simplify it would be to say that a good first touch takes talent as its very reactionary, and a perfect through ball takes intelligence as its all about spacial/spatial (sp) awareness, and weight

yeah they tell you to focus on what it was like when you were fully fit while you're doing your rehabilitation too, to put yourself in the moment of being on top form, mind over matter
