I do think the club went lower on Maxi purely to avoid a load of connected party scrutiny tbh. Even at the amount we got there were articles about murmurs of discontent from other PL clubs (which is of course an absolute joke if so). As with Supertoon, I think we lost out on at most £5-10m and like Kaka says, constantly injured with not the most amazing stats on paper could've swayed it. Would've been nice to have a bit extra to play with of course but nothing egregious imo.

I can understand being gutted at how off he was at times last night, the whole game was frustrating as hell. But I think the most annoying thing for me was seeing posts in reaction pining for Maxi in the match thread, as if he was some paragon of efficiency in his time (or would've even been fit if he was still here ). I know, I know, stats aren't the be all and end all. But a quick check says 2 goals and an assist in 335 minutes since joining, a goal involvement every 111 minutes. Not a bad start considering most of those minutes were off the bench and half of them after a four month layoff in which he's obviously going to need time to get up to speed. I have every faith he's going to come very good in the long-term considering we've already begun to see glimpses again since that return.

I honestly don't care who we get. If we're going to win this we'll need to see off one or two of the sky six. Even if it's only 2 and a half weeks away, as dodgy as we've been looking I am never surprised when we pull a random cracking performance out of our arse. We'll either manage it or we won't.

Obviously I know Local Hero is iconic but it'd never properly hit me until recently, maybe not being local. Never imagined I'd ever be a blubbering mess pre- match against Burnley. But that was the next match I could attend. Suddenly felt totally different. Fuck the PL's non-descript pre-match noise foisted upon every club getting in the way, too. Yet more sterilised bollocks.

I was guttedly texting non-NUFC mates about the Arsenal match on Monday and after the last message I could be arsed responding to just thought to myself "never before have I felt gutted at the prospect of 'just' a top ten finish". Really does put it in to perspective sometimes.

Like so many rules introduced to hamper us, I don't think it's a coincidence that time wasting rules got introduced this summer after we used 'tHe DaRk ArTs' to such great effect. I wouldn't be surprised if Howe has this in mind and has toned it down in fear of refs gagging to make an example out of the team that everyone decided were the worst for it last season. At least that's how I felt at the start of the season. It's gotten even worse considering the length of time some our biggest shithousers have had out.
