I'm probably the only one who's irritated by this, but here goes. 'Finish what you started?' - Sorry Al, you didn't start anything, we were relegated. You've still got something to prove, mate. The bit about 'everything is right and they want to get back into the Premier League' sounds like he's only prepared to take the job if there's money to spend. It doesn't sound to me like either Ashley or even any buyer is going to be able to blow much on signings. We need someone who sees the job as an opportunity and who's going to make the best of limited resources. That's the reality. I didn't like the way he was sat in the studio, talking about the limitations of the players out there. No doubt it'll get him a round of applause with most fans, but I did wonder what the players would have felt. Brilliant post. It's just a shame you are up against the 'Sun shines out of Shearer's arse brigade. I love the way every critic of your post has totally side-stepped the issue of him still having something to prove, because he was shite as a manager for those last 8 games. ****Cue it was the players fault/no one on earth could have motivated that lot/ashley is a twat/you are a twat (delete as applicable) responses ****

Im a muslim BUT im on this site cos i support Newcastle United I suspect as someone has suggested the paper in the OP is the German version of the Daily Mail - love sensationalising things There probably was a some people complaining BUT making it out as if muslims are up in arms over this is nonsense - also another thing to add is there are reportedly 1 Billion muslims in the world, the actions of a minority (very very small minority) is not representative of all muslims, just like the charva's outside SJP are not representative of newcastle fans There are 1.4 billion of you lot. The minorty of which happen to be very vocal and hold the power of Islam in their hands so that decent folk either have to go along with it or keep schtum (if I might be allowed to use a Yiddish expression around Islamic folks) They made up this song to piss off Muslims. Pure and simple. Hell they could have picked Jesus who knew nothing about the offside rule. He didn't need to he was great on the end of a cross. Well someone had to say it.
-
I would imagine that to be true. Unless anyone can point out where the offside rule is the Quran

If anyone can give me a hint as to roughly whereabouts that message is in it will help. I don't want to spend 3 weeks up there looking for it

Idiots. I'm going up to the ground tomorrow. If I see this message I'll just discretely turn it around in the name of good taste

This. A friend of the family who was on that very board was gobsmacked when Freddy came out with that on Friday. Lets just say his statement about Robson's sacking couldn't be further from the truth. Completely different to what I've been told like and from someone who I wouldn't doubt for a second. Although I'll leave it there as this thread isn't the time or the place to get into a debate about this. the hall's sacked robson, sir john hall came out and said that the club needed a change after souness was appointed :idiot2: but the main person who got bobby the sack was that little s*** dyer, if he hadn't of refused to play then their would been no question's about player discipline and also no f***ing souness I think the myth that Bobby lost the dressing room was down to more than one player. Some senior players (who bent over backwards to help the manager that followed) had a part to play aswell.

And what exactly have Shearer and Keegan won for the club if you're going to judge SBR by that standard?

RIP a true gent and legend.

Indeed. That's why I want neither of them

[Comment From NE5] I like Shearer, but is he the right man for the job? What about a manager who won 4 titles with 2 different clubs and 3 manager of the year awards?
-
For starters, you certainly are in the minority wanting Barton to stay! Secondly, you make a good point that Barton's tackle wasn't as bad as the Nolan or Guthrie tackles mentioned in isolation. The huge difference is that this was Barton's first game back, it was a crucial match and you can bet your bottom dollar that Shearer impressed upon him the importance of keeping control. Which is the big point - when you really, really need your players to be professional, can you count on Barton? The answer is most certainly not... When you really need your manager to think of the club first can you rely on Shearer to forget he's no longer a pundit on MOTD? On that day you couldn't.

Real paid the full transfer amount it wasn't staggered as per usual.

We were in Europe that year. Not good enough for some though. So 2 months into next season if Villa have a shed load of injuries and get off to a bad start will you be agreeing with any Villa fans who want to start campaigns and protests to get Learner out when an unknown hedge fund wants to buy him out like 89% on here wanted in October 06? We were generally performing far below the standards you would expect for the amount of money we spent in most of the last few seasons. The team that finished in 3rd place the season before had the addition of Darren Ambrose and no one else in the last full season Bobby was in charge yet that level of investment meant we were "generally performing far below the standards you would expect for the amount of money we spent"? A pitiful 5th was all we could manage with such 'backing' You must be delighted with the value for money the team has received since those terrible under-achieving days.

I can do one from May when I was arguing about his automatic inclusion in the team by Shearer against a few people on here
-
I think Fergie would have outbid Liverpools £3million offer for Shearer they made when Bobby was here if we'd let him go. Fergie has always loved his strikers and I think Owen will at the very least score more for Man U than Berbatov will. He'll probably score a boat load for them tho As for Owen I don't blame him for the wages he's received from us - no one in their right mind would have told Fat Fred to cut it to £50K a week. His big crime for me is his role as so called club captain when (as Dave has rightly pointed out) he should have issued some statement to the fans after relegation. A ludicrous decision to sign him was followed by an ever stupider decision to make this guy club captain.

It's reassuring to know Bryan Robson is still a raging piss head.

Absolutely spot on.

Any manager would struggle to keep a dressing room if he has no support from the hierachy. Hence Dyer wasn't sacked (in fact he was rewarded with a new improved contract) and SBR wasn't backed up by the club's bosses in this instance. I think Bobby had problems with Dyer and one other player and the 'lost the dressing room' story was generated (and leaked to the press to undermine him) after these two players were backed by the top men at the club. Our problems started then (or more exactly during the previous 18 months when SBR was starved of funds in which to improve on our 3rd place finish) The saddest thing was the disciplinarian we stole from a club lower than us in the premier league at the time was given £50 million to spunk away after all this. Talk about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted
-
I wrote: DCMK replied: So you have swallowed that hook line and sinker. Dyer should have been sacked for refusing to play for the team, instead he was given a much better contract after SBR left. I think it's fair to say Dyer had more influence than the manager in the hierachy of the club wouldn't you? That's a far better way of saying it without using a loaded term like 'amazing' to describe his performance as caretaker. Again the use of softer language helps reduce your bias. None of this shit about pushing the club upwards.
