  2. I'm pretty sure with some thought and the miracles of modern technology it would be possible to achieve much the same thing without necessarily being physically present. I'd already made a loose suggestion, I'm sure there are better ones. Have some optimism and think outside the box TBH though, and discarding the idea of pay 'at the gate', even just getting rid of specific seats being allocated would be a start. Turn up in groups and gather together in your groups. That in itself would be a huge step forwards.
  3. Just egotistically quoting myself from the SJP thread. I kind of get the 'there's no point, it will never happen' mentality. But If we do get a new stadium I'd still like to see supporters groups push all out for something like this. Yes it's really unlikely, and no, nobody else is doing it. But why not try to harness the enormous and almost unique advantage that we have available to us, instead of diluting and neutering it like we currently do?

Yeah unfortunately I do. But they are all wrong and I am right.

Agreed. I'd like to see one massive fuckoff end of safe standing, pay on turnstile only. Sure, have ID, membership required so idiots can be banned, but bring back the times of being able to just rock up and see a game if you want to enough. And make it affordable, cheap even. Pros: No more pockets of singers dotted all over. They can gather together in the same area every week. Kids could, if they really wanted to, see a game. With their mates. A new generation of fans, who would one day graduate to more expensive seats, could be nurtured. The club can truly be part of the community, with nobody excluded. Atmosphere would undoubtedly be better, in fact it would be off the charts. Early attendance would be pretty much essential, meaning greater revenue inside the ground, so increased matchday revenue on that front. Cons (and mitigations): Less revenue. OK, yeah on paper, but what value would the stadium with the greatest atmosphere in the world bring to the club, as we look to increase our presence on the global stage? Turnstile carnage. Definitely scope for his, but with modern technology surely this would easily be countered. I'm picturing some sort of point where you'd NFC your phone to confirm & pay, and then head off to the Stack or wherever to await a notification of which timeslot/turnstile to enter etc. Erm.. sure there are more, but my positive mindset can't think of any. Sure someone will be along shortly to piss on my chips. Basically it would be a modern day corner/scoreboard type of setup. But stick a roof on to amplify the noise and the place would be rocking.
  7. Tonali is fucking class. Happy new year!
  8. £120m with 10% interest compounded over the 14 years Ashley was here returns £455m (if my maths can be relied on, which it can't)

Also I get the feeling a trip to 'the game' in the US is a 'whole family' thing. I assume so anyway from footage I've seen. Whilst that's perhaps becoming less uncommon here, the match is still more somewhere a man would meet a few mates, quite a different demographic and one which limits the numbers who'd attend in person. Not saying that is right, but I think it's still true.
  10. He's assuming they need special teams for set pieces, penalties, a whole different offensive and defensive line up. It's how they roll

Bit bamboozled at you taking exception to any of that tbh, but each to their own. Hopefully soon enough it's a moot point, as us nippers will have a trophy to celebrate

Righto. Point is, not many people are alive who can remember it, in comparison to those who can't. It's just an inarguable fact, I'm not disparaging or belittling the achievement, far from it.

Genuinely interested if there are a whole load of you on here who actually remember us winning something, and love reading the stories of those times above a lot of stuff that gets posted. Unfortunately for us, its a sad fact that those who were lucky enough to experience that are few and far between.

Not sure what you mean by 'a certain age', but I'm 50 and a grandfather, and the Fairs Cup win was 4 years before I was born. Realistically, in order to remember it as anything other than a rumour, you'd need to be in your mid sixties. Given that life expectancy is around 86 years old, and the likelihood of people in their 70's and 80's being on here being slim, that leaves a very small number who will remember it. Start a poll, prove me wrong.

You should be proud to be part of the diminishing number to have known any NUFC success, I doff my cap to you

I rarely post but this topic is one that really gets the imagination flowing. I'm in favour of moving, just because I can see enormous opportunities which simply cannot happen if we stay. Admittedly some would require our owners to recognise what we have here and diverge a little from the familiar path other clubs are following, but I'd love us to set an example rather than follow. 1. Atmosphere. I see arguments that moving wont help the atmosphere. I wholeheartedly disagree. If done right (stadium acoustics, non season ticket availability, sensible ticket pricing) we could very easily turn a new stadium into an absolute cauldron which would be the envy of all in this country. If we had 70 to 80,000 capacity we could afford to dedicate one whole end of, say, 15,000 to pay on the day. And make it cheap. Sure, have a membership scheme to ensure troublemakers can be identified etc, but bring back the days of being able to queue up and have a chance of getting into any game. This would also bring back the camaraderie of groups of mates all being able to stick together, and eliminate the current problem of aging season ticket holders being immovable. Ticket sales from other areas of the ground can be higher, money will flow from other areas, a stadium full of noisy fans is worth it's weight in gold (see point 2). 2. Revenue. A new stadium seen (and heard) around the world every other week, one end full of loud and loyal fans who are currently either being priced out, separated from their friends, or haven't yet caught the bug as they can't afford it, would really set us apart from every other club in this country, and would attract new visitors just to sample the atmosphere (see point 1). Stadium concourses with a choice of bars and restaurants with a view over a refurbished and beautiful park leading into the centre of town would be lucrative enough on matchday. But why matchday only? If done right, why couldn't a night out in Newcastle include some drinks or a meal at our new home? And add to that the increased scope for big concerts and events for which we just aren't able to stage at present. 3. The future. Most if not all PL clubs are at some stage going to find the supply line of 'real' new fans becoming thin. The daytripper sorts are important for revenue, but they don't make noise and they will be quick to disappear when things aren't going so well. We should be trying to make it possible for those who desperately want to support the club to get their wish, because it's to everyone's benefit. This is currently impossible, but a new stadium opens the door for lots of new ideas. For me the only downside to moving is tradition, which I do get. I've not gone for years but had a season ticket from McFaul to Souness and the place holds memories. But the memories will remain and the club is currently being held back enormously by what I think has become a short-sighted show of loyalty to somewhere which hasn't - for any of us - seen any real success in the form of a trophy
  20. In the old days I'd just read the match report in the pink or suchlike
