  1. If only the transfer market was that easy, you buy when and where you can if the player is good enough or the manager fancies, when they are available, regardless of what position they play in. Also, just because you or I don't rate our right-back players, that doesn't mean the manager also shares the same view. I'm confident though that we'll strengthen that department before the window shuts. Well, I understand that Sam Allardyce doesn't always agree with my thinking, hence me expressing my own opinion, without attacking Sam personally.
  2. What proposal? I'm not sure what Carr and the RB slot has to do with Faye. You don't like the options I gave, so I would like to hear your own option. 2M for Faye could have been spent on getting a RB.
  3. I suppose a wide forward is still a forward? I understand what you are trying to say. But Milner and Martins are forwards in this game, the front line of attack, just like Djiouf and and Davies for Allardyce's Bolton.
  4. What is your proposal then?
  5. Which one will you prefer? 1. Faye as back up to Cacapa, who is a back up to Taylor in central defense. Or 2. Carr starts regularly, with Ramage as back up?
  6. Few points: 1. Too many long balls. 2. Are we relying too much of the front 3 to do the attacking? 3. Even the 3 central midfielders couldn't outplay Boro 2 central midfielders. 4. Aliadere is proving to be a shrewd buy for Middlesbrough. 5. We should start Cacapa. 6. These are not to be interpreted as wanting Sam out of the club.
  7. I would assume that Butt is one of the big wagers earning maybe 40k per week? 10 weeks of Nicky Butt cost 400k, 1 year of Nicky Butt cost 2M
  8. A small outlay? 2M might well be insignificant in today's market but at the moment we still have not acquired a specialist right back. Is money the problem? Could we have saved 2M and use it elsewhere? There is more than enough physical presence in midfield (Smith, Geremi, Barton, Butt). By all account it won't be a bad signing, and I wouldn't complain. But by all accounts I think the time, energy and money spent on Faye should be spent on obtaining a new right back.
  9. Tim Howard - Quality shot stopper - 8 Tony Hibbert - A committed Stephen Carr, at fault for first goal - 4 Alan Stubb - Too old, too slow - 5 Joseph Yobo - Good as ever - 7 Leighton Baines - Forward minded without ignoring defensive duties -7 Leon Osman - When he is not scintillating, he is anonymous - 5 Phil Neville - Too many fouls - 5 Lee Carsley - Too old, too slow - 5 Mikel Arteta - A bit quiet by his standard, still the only creative player in Everton - 7 James McFadden - Did nothing apart from scoring the important goal - 6 Andy Johnson - Crying out loud for a quality partner. You have to salute his mental strength - 7 Victor Anibeche - Why is him not on from the start? Bright - 7 Phil Jagielka - Changed the game immediately. Class act. Should have scored though - 8 Joleon Lescott - Why did he not start? Criminal act for McLaren to overlook him consistently - 8 David Moyes - Exactly the manager who makes you pulling your hair out, puzzled for his tactical decision. Yet he always produces results. More hair out then. ------------ Brad Friedel - Tim Howard - 8 Brett Emerton - Very Physical - 7 Andrea Ooijer - Good defending - 7 Christopher Samba - Towering presence at both end, but could have done better for the goal - 8 Stephen Warnock - Leighton Baines - 7 David Bentley - The inferior version of David Beckham. I don't understand why the people who slated Beckham want Bentley to replace him? Exactly the same type of football they play, except that Bentley still has a long way to go if he were to emulate Beckham's achievement. Robbie Savage - The ginger havoc wrecker - 8 David Dunn - In and out the game - 7 Morten Gamst Pederson - Quiet today. But quality corners. - 7 Roque Santa Cruz - Good positioning, but still needs to adapt to the pace and physicality of Premiership more - 8 Benny McCarthy - Anonymous - 5 Matt Derbyshire - No impact this time - 6 Aaron Mokoena - In late to toughen up the midfield, so so - 6 Jason Roberts - So so - 6 Mark Hughes - The midtable version of Arsenal. Capable of playing some beautiful football, except that they are very well equip to bully the opponents. Blackburn have more flair than Everton despite the massive difference in transfer spending. Blackburn is unfortunate to get a draw only. Perhaps they have only themselve to blame for the lack of urgency after scoring the first goal.
  10. To this date I still don't think the move to bring in Rossi is a wrong one. He was simply wasted by Roeder. Why did Roeder bring him in and not play him, even prefering a crocked immobile Ameobi over him?
  11. I am sure Spanish League has its plus points, very many in fact, the overall standard of football is the highest in Europe - UEFA Cup is a proof of that. But personally I don't buy that English big 4 is boring thingy, on the contrary I find the la liga big 2 (Real Madrid + Barcelona) tiresome. Anyway, Real Madrid have always been rich but the staggering wealth David Beckham brought to the club is just sensational. Without David Beckham they wouldn't have won the league last year, and without him they wouldn't be able to spunk 100M euro to revamp a club that just won the league. Chelsea a bottomless club? Real Madrid is the daddy of all!

a cult here is well, a cult hero - a hero of unconventional status. Sibierski is received by many toon fans as a hero - and what kind of hero can he be if not a cult hero?
  13. Surely Everton is a club going forward, with a foundation of good players? And surely Bolton under Sam Allardyce was a club going forward which look like they would be consistently in Europe for a few years in coming? What had Newcastle to offer compared to them, before Mike Ashley took over?
  14. One major difference between La Liga and Premiership La Liga - the top 4 seems to use more or less the same route to success - big money buy big players, attacking football (except Real Madrid under Capello) Whereas in Premiership - Arsenal rely on youth, Man U rely on money and attacking football, Liverpool rely on money and squad depth, Chelsea rely mega money and conservatism - a lot more variety. I wouldn't swap Premiership for La Liga, personally.
  15. Still think that it is extremely sad for Everton to move out from Liverpool. Surely the immediate financial benefits the Kirkby Stadium bring couldn't compensate the long term lose of local fan base? Newcastle United supporters are "loyal" because they have only one big club available to them. I can't envisage where Everton will draw their fans from after, say, 30 years? At least the decision to move is approved by the voting majority, (apparently). The Guardian
  16. Because I want to post articles that I have enjoyed very much?
  17. Great read. I reckon that Real Madrid will struggle this season. New coach who hasn't proven himself at the highest level, completely revamped squad, and all that. Come on Barca!! The Guardian
  18. Good read. I reckon Paul Le Guen's PSG would be a dark horse this year in Ligue 1. The Guardian
  19. Gotta disagree with you here. Cannavaro is getting old and slow. Robben is better off at left wing. Drenthe is a left full back by trade and came to fame against U21 players as left winger.
  20. Different situations though. There weren't any quality alternative to Shevchenko and Ballack. So if they flop Chelsea would suffer. Ashley Cole was injured for the majority of the season, so was Wayne Bridge. Man U bought Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Tevez. 3 games into the season they have been constantly producing excellent attacking football, they just couldn't find the net. Rooney was injured in the first game, no one would have expected that and Tevez wasn't even on the bench. Ronaldo was suspended, and Nani slotted in very nicely. Anderson isn't meant to be playing so soon, and he hasn't played yet. Hargreaves produced a very very competent display against Man City. Only a freak deflecting goal and wasteful forwards denied them a draw or a victory. Unlike wasteful Arsenal last year which looked thin when key players were injured, wasteful Man Utd have the sufficient depth to counter the very unexpected loss of Rooney and Ronaldo. And it is down to good transfer dealings.
  21. True, Barca! Eric Abidal would be great for left back. Milito has been great in La Liga. Not sure why is Barca dispensing with Deco, but Yaya Toure is meant to be very good!
  22. I think on paper Bayern Munich's first team is stronger. Oliver Kahn Willy Sagnol, Lúcio, Daniel Van Buyten, Philipp Lahm (Marcell Jansen) Franck Ribéry, Zé Roberto, Mark van Bommel, Bastian Schweinsteiger (Martín Demichelis, Hamit Altıntop) Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose (Lukas Podolski)
  23. This. Would actually prefer the 2m used in acquiring higher quality right back.
  24. Right. Get on the blower to McLaren. We all agree with this formation. So do most the country, I bet. Hargreaves and Barry as defensive midfielders? For a team struggling to attack, that is a luxury. Hargreaves alone will do tripple defensive works Carrick does. One defensive midfielder is enough. If everyone is fit Ben Foster Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole Steven Gerrard, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen
