He is also the captain of his club, which suggests his leadership qualities. Finally, Torres is stronger, taller, better dribbler, younger - one who can make things for himself. I don't know to what extend does Pearson's influence have on our defense. Do me a favour and go back through the thread and quote me the specific instances of racism or xenophobia that you're referring to. Cannavaro is so overrated. He is good undoubtedly, but he does not deserve the Golden Ball reward. If Buffon wasn't in the goal Italy would have conceded a lot more. What excatly has Cannavaro achieved in last football year? In Juventus he is lucky to have Thuram beside him and Buffon behind him. In the world cup he is lucky to have Materrazi Buffon behind him. Is Cannavaro any better than Thuram, Materrazi (in the world cup) and Buffon? In the final France were the better side who lost via penalty. If France had won the game would Cannavaro still win this Golden Ball? There might not be standing out candidate this year but in my opinion Cannavaro won the award simply because he is the captain of the world cup winning side. By the way, Cannavaro has not been brilliant for Real Madrid so far.

Butt is not great, he is solid, solid enough squad player but he is not as good as Parker, not that Parker is a great player. People moan about Parker slowing down our attack or not going forward. What has Butt done that is better than Parker? He did a solid job defending but he did not go forward at all. And it was Parker's surging run forward that resulted in a corner which was then converted by Taylor. I'll have Parker ahead of Butt anyday by this year's form. Parker should go forward more, should attack more, undeniably. But fact is apart from the Villareal pre season friendly, Butt has contributed little to the offensive play. Butt did a great job in Palermo, did a decent job last night. But Parker could have done the same if he were playing.

If Boro is lucky enough in acquiring an excellent manager to replace Southgate (I don't mean Steve Round), Steve Gibson is more than happy to fund his manager. Not really overly relevent but does everyone think that pardew is a shit manager because i think that he's quite good. I'd rather have him than Roeder, although thats not saying much. Actually, I think I am in the minority in thinking that Alan Pardew is not as good as people have suggested. I remember that after West Ham beat Boro in FA club semi final, there were quite many praises heaped on him. I think Alan Pardew is a manager who is capable of building a very good squad, but not capable enough of to build a great team. I am very unimpressed by his complains that the takeover talks have affected his team's performance. and also by his failure to utilise Mascherano and Tevez. But he buys wisely - Green, Gabbidon, Zamora, Harewood, Ashton, Konchesky, Benayoun, Spector etc. I would have Pardew over Roeder in Newcastle United, but that does not suggest much!
