I think everyone appreciates Spain's ability in keeping the ball and one touch stuff, but there's a line between using it to your advantage and spoiling the game. So far they've verged on the latter. There seems a definite reluctance to make runs in behind or commit men forward for the sake of keeping the ball which is a shame when you look at their squad.

Ouch, had a good second half of the season for them too.

The only time I've seen McEachran play was our 4-3 victory at Stamford Bridge when he came on and he looked a well rounded and exciting player even then. Must be getting on for 2 years ago now. Needs regular football even if that means dropping down to the Championship for a season.

Interesting to see how Fulham do next year, Jol's moved quite a few players on. Personally think he knows what he's doing though.

The one thing all sucessful sides do that we don't it pressure high up the pitch. Every time we did it (albeit not often) we invariably won the ball back in their half. Fucking ridiculous to then sit back and invite what is a good but not great Italy onto us. They were there for the beating tonight imo, but the tactics were wrong and you've got to look at Hodgson's 442 and over conservativeness.
-
The two in the middle, Gerrard and Parker, were especially bad at this, they played within about the same 20 yards of the pitch for 90% of the game. Also yeah it's true Sewelly, but it's like pissing in the wind as it's been clear for the last 15 years an overhaul was needed, see no reason why a change will come now if it hasn't already come about.

Save this post for WC 2014 and beyond.

This is just a bid they know will get rejected so then when we sign Rob Hulse for £200,000 on deadline day, Mike and Derek can say "at least we tried". IMO

Lolled when he finished his little piece before the game and just turned and stood staring into the camera with an unflinching robotic smile on his face. Pards kept looking into the camera when he was doing punditry.

Sophie blatantly was the German with the neo-Nazi flag in the German crowd. Initials of SS as well. Sickening.

That's nonsense that. Didn't play well tonight, like. What's he done apart from being neat and tidy and generally passing the ball backwards? Distinctly remember him being poor against Sweden before his goal and we did nothing as a team against France. I do like him, but he needs to be receiving the ball much higher up the pitch to be effective which won't happen they way we're playing.
-
I like Welbeck but he's done next to nothing apart from his goal and poses almost no threat. Would put Carroll in on Sunday and tell him to wind up their two centre halfs.
-
Someone else getting fucked over instead of us. I'd love it if we fluked our way to the trophy by diving, fouling and using dirty tactics.
-
Didn't McClaren recommend Tiote or something? Or visit the training ground? Vaguely remember him doing or saying something positive concerning us.

Smokescreen for Reo-Coker.

Love thread titles like this, me.

Spain are like Man City 2010/2011. Great squad but are hamstrung by conservative tactics and mentality. Mandzukic is absolutely quality, him and Modric did themselves proud.

Probably because the main reasons for Barca and Real's ability to change the pace of a game in a second are not Spanish and Spain don't have equivilants. The equivs are too pedestrian/similar to those already playing. The only player that goes beyond Torres is Silva, they just seem more focused on keeping the ball and tiring the other team out than actually trying to create opportunities which is baffling because they have the capability to rip any side in this competition to pieces. There's absolutely no need for Alonso in the side.
