  1. I'd take your point on Kluivert if he'd done well after leaving Newcastle but he didn't. Kevin Davies, Peter Crouch, have all had big money moves and flopped. There are some people on here would be delighted with those guys. Beattie's made a bad move once. I bet he'd love the chance to restore his reputation up here. Just think, we, FOR ONCE, could actually buy a player, restore his reputation and see his value GO UP!! Fuck me, that would be lovely. When was the last time we sold a player for a profit? Jenas bluewink.gif Did we though? If we did it was marginal and it certainly wasn't because he set the world alight up here or we developed him into a much better player, it would be because he was young, english and takes it up the arse.
  2. I agree, I'd probably pay a max of £4m for him.
  3. A well thought out, constructive argument, God - some people on here could learn a thing or two from you. Ok, if not Beattie, any suggestions? Bearing in mind that LB/CB will be priority in this window and we won't have wedges of wonga?

  5. Cheers Gejon. I hadn't seen that. Basically a one goal every 3 games or so Centre Forward then? Doesn't put me off. He's never had the type of service we could give him and those stats (for a third choice forward which is what he'd be next season) are good IMHO. A damn good investment.
  6. I didn't mean he was always crap, but he was by the time he got to us for the reasons you mentioned. Him and Bellamy would have been a good partnership if it was for the fact that Robson was pressured to start Shearer all of the time. Kluivert was unlucky that Shearer was still just about good enough when he arrived. I don't think he was particularly motivated by the fact he knew he would end up on the bench no matter how well he performed in training. Anyway, to all of those slating Beattie, you need to remember just where our club is these days. We are not a top four side and we are not going to break the bank on a world class forward. IF the board haven't learnt anything from some of the buys made over the last few seasons they should be shot. He's low risk with a point to prove, yet we know he CAN handle the premiership. Can Nugent? Can Eastwood? Fuck knows.
  7. I agree. He'd be a cracking buy for the right price. People seem to have quickly forgot his Southampton form. Aye, because he's never reproduced it. For the reasons quoted above. With Milner, Dyer, Nobby, Emre, Duff etc creating chances for him. He'd score goals with a doubt. He doesn't get that at Everton.
  8. I agree. He'd be a cracking buy for the right price. People seem to have quickly forgot his Southampton form. Everton have never played in a style or system to suit him. I think they've treat him a bit like we did Kluivert. He didn't arrive in the best of nick physically and didn't hit the ground running. Moyes lost faith. Simple as really. Time for a new start for the lad and, I for one, would rather an in-form James Beattie was in our starting eleven rather than giving our centre backs a good battering. Him and Martins would be breathtaking.
  9. In terms of an investment Viduka would be a freekin disaster mate. Wrong side of 30, will want to finish his career in Aus, not the most motivated at the best of times, will want a final BIG payday and has a shit injury record. Compare that against Beattie: - Young (ish) - English - Motivated (to prove the ginger gimp in scouseland wrong) - Will not demand HUGE wages in comparison to Viduka - We'll be able to flog him on to a Championship side for a couple of million if he doesn't make the grade or settle - Decent injury record. No doubt in my mind, if I was the man in charge of the chequebook, I'd go for Beatts every day of the week. He's a low risk investment, especially after we've had our fingers burnt by Boumsong and Luque lately. Check my previous posts, I've said Beattie is who we should go for for months.
  10. I agree and he wouldn't have let in either of Fentons strikes at Ewood, which was the straw that broke the camels back IMO. Flowers was mint that game as well. Both qouted for truth. Oh, and YES from me. No doubt IMHO.
  11. It was nice for him to be part of the World Cup winning side this year I thought. A player who has stuck with (largely) one club throughout his career and given his all for the national side, with that much talent, and opportunity deserves a bit of luck. bit gutted for Maldini though after his bad luck with the national team, losing in both World Cup 94 and Euro 2000 Finals. If only he stuck around with the national team for a year or so more, he would've won just about everything going domestic and internationally Agreed mate
  12. I've been saying we should sign Beattie for ages. Blackburn are rumoured to be interested and have been talking about £2m. £2m quid is nothing to risk on an English striker, proven in the top league, hungry to prove a point who rarely gets injured. I challenge anyone to find a better VALUE acquisition than Beattie based on age, ability, and investment RISK. edit - sorry, forgot to say, I wouldn't sign another forward if we got a target man. We've got enough cover to play a target man up front on his own or with Milner/Dyer or Emre IF Martins got injured.
  13. Eh? Have I missed something here lads? Since when did this site turn into a bad flashback of English Homework? Write a fucking story? Please.
  14. So, thus far, a squad of the best players we reckon we've seen at St. James' would look something like this;- Keepers: Schmeichal Flowers Defenders: Adams Midfielders: Vieira Nedved Scholes Gravesen Keane Dalglish Forwards: Del Piero Mulder Owen Le-Tiss Drogba Yorke Kluivert Some talent there. We might concede a few mind.
  15. Aye, granted, he did and he was a canny player but you're not telling me he was THE BEST opposing player you've ever seen at St. James' are you?

    Baines fee?

I love Riise's attitude and attacking instincts. But his defending gives me the shakes a lot of the time bluebiggrin.gif He's one of these players you can't help but like (which is why I find it incredulous a so called Liverpool fan calls him a tosser), but defensively he isn't all that. He gets away with it a lot in the Prem, but sometimes he gets in trouble cos of it. Basically, he's a player with a spot-on attitude, he's a workhorse, doen't get many injuries, he's good for a few goals a season, but he isn't the best defensively. That is how I'd sum him up! Cheers Mate. I'd often wondered what the 'Pool fans view of him was. He always chips in with goals but I wasn't sure if that hid other elements of his game that weren't as strong. Anyway, question answered, cheers.
  17. yes, but im not sure about Preston Preston were in the Championship last season
  18. Good shout. Yeah, it is a good shout. I had a few players in mind when I posted this topic but I'd forgot about Schmeichal. I did think that Cantona would have been posted by someone though.

    Baines fee?

You are a Liverpool fan, yet you can't even spell his name right? Maybe it's you that's the tosser eh. Rafa, Out of interest, what do you think of Riise? Are you a big fan? Cheers in advance.
  20. Nugent for me for two reasons;- 1) He's proved at a higher level than Eastwood and; 2) He seems a bit stronger and has more ability to hold the ball than Eastwood who always looks a bit lightweight to me.
  21. It was nice for him to be part of the World Cup winning side this year I thought. A player who has stuck with (largely) one club throughout his career and given his all for the national side, with that much talent, and opportunity deserves a bit of luck. I dunno why but I always had a feeling he would sign for us one day, especially during the Keegan era. Funny. So did I, one of my fav players of all time, the Italian Beardsley, i'd still take him now, could do a job like Zola did at Chelsea. I'm sure we were linked with him quite a bit during Keegans era in the press. It would be really interesting to know if they actually made a move for him. I'm not sure how he would cope with the pace and physical nature of the Premiership at this stage of his career but, most people would probably take a chance on him if he was cheap/Bosman, thats for sure.
  22. UNBELIEVABLE how much he was sold for from Barca isn't it? I can understand how someone with natural ability just doesn't fit into a side or just generally fit into a club but HOW can you let someone that good go on the cheap? Its defies logic.
  23. NSG - I'd forgot about that mate. Yeah, he was fucking awesome that night. Another player who would really grace the Premiership. Not many people notice this about Nedved but he's a hard little fucker. He gets kicked through a load of matches without reacting.
  24. Yeah, its a shame about the timing of Kluiverts move to us really. The cross over with Shearers impending retirement/desire to get the goalscoring record and the sacking of SBR only for the daft jock to come in all went against him to be honest. He did, on occasion, show some glimpses of the real Kluivert and the player we all hoped he would be. Having said that, I'm surprised he's not done more since leaving us. Undoubtedly a waste of talent. Still scored around 14-15 goals as well. Imagine what a fully-fit Kluivert would have done? Agreed. He was one of those players who needed a brave manager if you know what I mean? He needed a Manager to change the shape of the side, to make him the main-man, to publically support him and big him up. We let him down on that front IMO. Partly due to the Shearer effect and the timing of his signing.
