  1. Eh? How could you be that DISAPPOINTED with Saha? He was a loan player, probably on a few grand a week. He hardly came with a massive reputation or anything. Don't get that TBH
  2. My thoughts exactly. I'd happily have paid £2m or £3m for Upson and taken a 'chance' on his fitness but he'll never play 30 games a season for them. Smacks of desperation TBH.
  3. Pistone is up there for me. Italian Under 21 Captain, played for Inter and a big investment from us at the time at £4.5m. I thought he was going to be the answer to our left sided problems for years. He wasn't. Never once saw how he could have represented Italy or how he was ever worth that kind of money and salary. I guess, like Viana, we were paying for his potential. When I look back at Viana's time at the club though I reckon he was blighted a bit by Speeds endurance which made him undroppable in Viana's first season. After that, he never looked 'up' for the battle in the premiership and to be fair, he hasn't really shone elsewhere BUT there were glimpses of his quality (i.e: That through ball for Bernard at St James' against Chelsea IIRC). There was never a glimpse from Pistone though.
  4. I think he's talking profit on top of the fee paid. If so Liverpool will never make a profit on Bellamy imo. £5m profit on Reina, They paid about £8m for him and tbf he hasnt exactly been out standing for Pool. Bellamy has been terrible so i agree they wouldnt make anything on him. Kuyt has done anything to justify a £3m profit. You are kidding right? You haven't been impressed by Kuyt? You don't think Bellamy has proved he can make the step up from UEFA (Blackburn) to a Champs League quality EPL side? You're talking bollocks mate.
  5. I think he's talking profit on top of the fee paid. If so Liverpool will never make a profit on Bellamy imo. Thanks Toon's Taylor. Glad someone got the point of the post. I disagree on Bellamy - I think they'll make a comfortable profit on him personally.
  6. THE FIGURES IN BRACKETS ARE APPROXIMATE PROFITS MADE ON THE ORIGINAL FEE. Still tihnk they could get over £15.5M for him. I don't think they would make much more than £15m for him
  7. I'm no Liverpool apologist but I think the answer to that question is yes. He (Benitez) would make a comfortable profit on:- Bellamy (£3m) Alonso (£5m) Sissoko (£8m) Aurelio (£1m) Kuyt (£3m) Agger (£5m) Reina (£5m) Palletta (£1m) The figures are off the top of my head but, in principal if you take into account his Champions League win, you can't say Benitez hasn't been a good appointment. Certainly compared to Souness, appointed a few months later by us, he is. Fred's (on the verge of the boot) biggest failure IMO. They (Pool) appointed a sought after Manager at the time and we appointed Souness (on the verge of the boot) as Gaffer. They got the above and we got Babayaro, Luque, Parker, Boumsong and Co. Cheers Fred. Have I missed something or are you just being a cock?

  10. Cemented top 4? Has he? You finished 5th in this first season, 2nd last season but I'd put that more down to Man U & Arsenal going through a season of transition rather than Liverpool's brilliance, and you're not guaranteed top 4 by any means this season either. To be fair I reckon Benitez' and his subsequent signings would always guarantee them a top four place in the league (as it stands) bar a couple of crazy takeovers. IMO he's spent reasonably well.
  11. Judging by their efforts for home match we can probably expect about 2 Birmingham fans at those prices.
  12. Wenger is very good at getting rid of players before they become a burden. Absolutely spot on Parky lad. Thats what would put me off Lauren too. And Big Sol Aye but how many seasons will Campbell play for now? one more at this level? and has Wenger missed him? Not a bit. Campbell's responded well to Harrys man management but he won't have the legs to play on. Hence he's virtually finished. There aren't many players who Wengers let go that have gone on to produce better form for more than one season. Jeffers Petit Overmars Silvinho Pires (granted he's fucked) Winterburn Anelka The list goes on and on. Hence the reason I wouldn't be too keen to take Ljungberg or Lauren. Wrong. Arsenal have been terrible at the back at times this season. However, Sol and Gallas would have been amazing together. Think Arsenal's defence has been quality, even more so when Gallas plays. Toure is one of the most under-rated players about, absolutely immense defender. Totally agree and for the same weekly wage as Campbell Arsenal now have a stronger squad (Since buying Rosicky, Hleb are probably on about £40k a week and Sol was on a minimum of £80k). Wenger and Ferguson are normally spot on when it comes to getting rid of players just in time. Vieira has not produced his Arsenal form for Inter and he'll be finished (Certainly in his current position) in a couple of years. Arsenal got good dollar at the right time. IMO Wenger is the best Manager (given the size and spending power of Arsenal when he took them over) in the Premiership and his speciality is buying at low cost and selling when the same players have maximum value. The only exception to this seems to have been Henry. I doubt they'll ever get an offer like the £30m Barca were going to pay for him again. He won't be getting rid of Ljungberg if he's got 2 decent seasons left in him.

  15. Ashton would be my choice - anyday of the week. Its just a shame that they don't need the money nowadays.
  16. Wouldn't even be the best strikeforce we've had since we came into the Premier League and it wouldn't be the best strikeforce in the league at present either. Agreed.
  17. Very true but Charlton gave Dowie much more money than they ever gave Curbishley to spend in one summer and the idiot blew it such numpties as Faye, Traore etc etc. I reckon they have to sell to buy. He's the most valuable asset they have. If they can buy a few decent players with the money made from his sale they'll hope one or two of them hit form at the right time. Thats my logic on it anyway.
  18. Disagree. Think he's been a complete cock lately.

    Who would you buy?

LB-Paul Konchesky (worth a punt) RB-Luke Young (Worst game by a RB ive ever seen against Liverpool, but still worth a punt i suppose, trade with carr) CM-Youssi Benayoun (inconstant, dont need him and his position) CF-James Beattie (No more than £3m, worth a punt) Cf-Ashley Young (Rejecting bids of £5m, plus he is a right winger, we dont need him) Konchesky is worth a look at. Curbs sold him from Charlton and may now find himself pushed out as the two never got on. WHU didn't pay a massive fee, maybe a swap for Babayaro to keep costs down would be worth a look. Same for Young. Charlton fans are not happy with him, he's lost interest and we could for the right price he could move. However, nothing more than £3m for numerous reasons, maybe throw Carr in as well Beattie is about the best striker we can get for the £3m mark without taking a punt abroad. I reckon he'd redouble his efforts if he came here, and relaunch his career, but its a risk, but one worth taking imo. If the club came out with these three before the window closes, i'd be quite happy. Although i think there are better options about for the fullback positions, we neither have the money, nor the talent to broker the deals needed to secure the players, so maybe with WHU & Charlton in unsecure positions, we could take some advantage over them. Quoted for this man talking sense. My thoughts exactly. aye likewise, only problem is he is a form player - either good or bad, he tends not to have a steady average. Decent pen taker too which could be a bonus Aye - agree that him being a 'confidence' player is the one thing that will put a doubt in a lot of peoples minds. Also, its a nice bonus that he can strike a good pen/free kick. I don't buy in to the argument that he's shite just because he hasn't done the business at Everton. Just look at Crouch, Kevin Davies, Camara etc for prove that you can do well as some clubs and not at others. He's not useless. He would do a job and he would be low risk signing, in that we could always sell him on if it didn't work without taking a massive hit of the transfer fee. It seems to me that a lot of people of disregarding the idea of signing him without looking at it from a risk viewpoint.

  21. Never heard of him. What do you know?

    Scouting?

Yeah - I seem to remember we took two (iirc) of his old pals that seem to culminate in the unexplained disappearance of Tommy Craig.
