  1. Really don't think he's good enough for a PL campaign. I don't really care what the players think of him as most of them need getting rid as well. We don't want to be bottom 4/5 12 games in still wondering about Hughton.

Maybe, but do really think most of the players will be leaving? Of course they won't.

If we don't refresh at least half the first team we will be relegated, so it don't really matter what I think.

You might be right, but surely it's pointless debating based on things that we know won't happen.

    Must happen.

We will return with wages under control again and spare cash and PL money. The decks have been cleared so to speak. If Ashley has learnt anything it's what is needed to stay up....Having been through it once. Personally I'd get Shearer and Speed in as soon as promotion is formalised.

    Wowsers!

If we are going to bother with getting rid of Hughton then I would rather go for someone more established than Shearer. Going down was the ideal time to give Shearer his shot, but unfortunately it didn't happen for whatever reason.

If we are making a change next season I wouldn't mind us making a play for Sven. I'm sure by then he would have been completely fed up with the weird goings on at Notts County.

  2. Love his temperament, and I think he does have the potential. Let's not forget he is very experienced as a number two and has certainly paid his dues. He does need to keep getting better though.

If Ashley decides to stay, I do think Hughton would be ideal for the kind of plan Ashley has wanted to put in place all along i.e. go after younger, more obscure, more affordable (i.e. cheap!) talents, who are not necessarily the complete article yet. Hughton seems like he would be a lot more accepting of this and play more of a coaching role, and not be as insistent on complete control of player recruitment.

It will be interesting that's for sure. Would really like to see him continue to grow and become a success. Best of luck to him.

  3. Yes, I'm sure he'll turn down Liverpool to come here.

That being Liverpool who were meant to sign him Jan 01 2010. They are still no closer to signing him since shifting a few bodies off there payroll. As a short term move we may be a better place for him as I said we should be able to cover his wages with Geremi leaving, we have two fellow Argentine internationals who have played in Spain & came to England. He need to hit the ground the running & playing as it is World Cup year with Rafa being tinkerman is going to get the game time?

For Argentinians international football means more than the club game & playing in World Cup is the main gig.

AS I SAID WE HAVE LOST THE ART OF "DREAMING"

We were linked with Ricky Lambert in some rag this week!!!!

    :kasper:

I actually thought you were joking ... that's definitely one hell of a dream.

Would like to see us go for Victor Moses if this Beckford thing keeps getting silly.

  4. what the f*** was fergie thinking flogging Tevez and Ronaldo and replacing them with the little horse whispering dickhead? got to be one of his worst decisions along with getting rid of Stam and thinking he could build a side around Veron.

Fergie's not usually so easily manipulated by public feeling. After the last world cup everyone wanted Ronaldo booted out of England but SAF held on tight. Next it will probably be Berbatov's turn to be hounded out, but from what I've seen he's not the problem. Still, I suppose no one will pay £20m for Owen.

Owen and Rooney were looking really promising together the season prior to Fergie splurgin on Berbatov, so why he spent £30 million on that dunce rather than tie up the Tevez deal I will never know. Awful, awful decision. Now Tevez is in the very same city playing for a different club and will be a continuous reminder of that error for goodness knows how long.

Kudos to Mancini by the way. I know it's very early but I'm glad he's making that neanderthal Hughes look more of a buffoon with each passing game. Love Mancini's cool, calm temperament. The kind of demeanour I love to see in a manager. Don't have to be a raving, abrasive lunatic on the sideline to get your players to perform.

  5. in all honesty, at first I was a complete prick to you but you proved to be a good lad and I admitted I was wrong.

Some people can't admit they were ever wrong, that is what sets me apart :smug:

It is a bit weird that most people on here give KD a hard time because he supports Spurs, yet at the same time most people on here are balls deep in all the other posters that support a different team.

He is a sensible poster tbh.

Yeah, he's alright when you get used to him. Just don't ask his opinion on Richard Dunne ...

    :aww:

  6. The Sun reckon we'll be after Lavezzi in the summer  ;D may as well bid for messi while we're at it

NEWCASTLE will target The Tank if they make it back to the Premier League.

The Championship table-toppers want Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Lavezzi, 24, will cost more than £5million.

But he will come with the backing of his Argentina team-mates Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez, who are Toon favourites.

Lavezzi, nicknamed The Tank, has hit 17 goals in 77 games for Napoli and Newcastle have watched him play for club and country.

He said: "I want to speak with Napoli to see if there will be a chance to leave this summer."

LEEDS will make a £2million move for Sheffield United striker Jamie Ward if Jermaine Beckford leaves.

Beckford's goal knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup on Sunday and he is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, plus Newcastle.

Ward, 23, almost joined Leeds before his move from Chesterfield to the Blades a year ago.

What a dream it would be if we are actually planning ahead and actually realise we will need a serious upgrade in talent if we go up.

    We can only hope ...

  7. Back on the subject of Beckford, doesn't surprise me that Villa have been mentioned even if it's complete speculation. O'Neill does tend to go for English talent especially those with unfulfilled potential, like Milner and Delph. Beckford would fit the mould, although i suspect it's bollocks tbh.

From what I've seen of Jermaine Beckford and considering his goal scoring record now over the last few seasons, albeit it in league two, I'm surprised more prem teams aren't willing to take a risk on him for just £2 million and what would be pretty low wages too.

The likes of Fulham, Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton, Hull, Stoke and even West Ham who are struggling financially you would think would take the risk. Should be interesting to see what happens eventually.

Had a look at the Villa forum to see what they thought of the deal and only one person was against it.

I think the deal is good for both teams you know.

Keane is more of a natural goalscorer than any of the current Villa forwards and should work well with either Gabby or Heskey, while Carew would be more accepting of being rotated at Spurs, where Harry clearly wants to go with Defoe and Crouch as his first choice forward line.

  9. He has the potential to be a very good player if only Benetiz would give him a real run up front.

Rafa really is strange. Wouldn't even give Babel a chance upfront while they were missing Torres.

Pretty sure he would have done as good a job and likely even better than what N'Gog did.

Rafa really has messed him about completely. He still really young though so he should still be okay, but he really should be looking to get out of there.

  10. Shocked he's gone tbh. Thought he would have hung around and seen off the last of his contract rather than take a wage cut.

50K+ off the wage bill for an utterly s*** player.  Thanks for that cross against the mackems and the free kick against spurs, the only thing he achieved of note. Never waranted the money he was on and was surplus to requirements.

    Good bye to bad rubbish.

World Cup year, innit? Can't afford to not be playing, even with his profile in Cameroon.

Yup, pretty much what it comes down too.

    sounds familiar

    ???

  12. Admittedly I haven't seen much of him, but going on this game alone I see no reason why he can't get goals in the Championship, and likely against the lower teams in the Premiership too. Seems fast, decent touch, reasonably strong. Nothing amazing, but a decent enough striker that would improve our team imo.

Agreed. Doesn't really get too involved in general play as he stays high up the pitch, but when he does get it to feet he seems comfortable and composed. Looks a very confident player in general.

  13. Whilst I say he can do what he likes regarding team selection, there is a lot of pressure on him on Saturday to win.

Exactly. It's completely backfired on him and is now more likely to negatively affect the team the rest of the season, particularly if they lose against Burnley. Very, very poor decision. Yes it's his perogative to do as he sees fit, but he had to see this kind of reaction coming.
