Must admit I was a bit dubious about putting two strikers on the pitch, my instinct would have been keep one on the bench to bring on if we needed, but once we got a hold of the midfield and actually started bringing Wilson and Isak into play, they really gave the Burnley defence a going over. We got better and better as the game went on.

Isak tends to drop into space anyway.

This was Howe's bread and butter setup at Bournemouth.

Really actually liked his two upfront formation back then with Josh King playing off Wilson.

Wouldn't mind us using it more in the right circumstances. Only problem then being no striker options off the bench, and both being prone to picking up injuries.

The Hall/Tino partnership at full-back is why I never bought having to play Burn LB to accommodate Trippier bombing on. For the first two goals, one drove forward, the other sat. Hope this is how it is from now.

Burn came into the club playing centre back.

He only started playing at left back because Targett couldn't stay fit and we never landed the left backs we were linked with e.g. Lodi and Tierney.

Burn then made the spot his own as the team were keeping clean sheets and getting results.

Halls emergence is a great sign. Hopefully we land someone else that can play there this summer, and Burn can settle into being an option at centre back going forward. Only playing left back in emergency situations.

When we win something he will be the right man. Since 1969 sweet fuck all, half the football league have won something since we have.

    Wew ...

So your dissatisfaction is based on him having not won something in the short time he has been here, having taken over a relegation candidate of a team.

Totally disregarding the fact we are already challenging for Europe consistently and have already made a cup final.

That is true misery man. Goodness me.

    Hall is really good like.

Only saw him twice at Chelsea, both times at left back and he really stood out.

We just had to be patient and let him adjust to what was required of him here.

Working out very nicely right now. Great to see both Livramento and Hall get this run in the team. The future at full back looks very promising.

People believe it because they watched City and Chelsea spend their way to success buying top name players.

I do agree with you, however and look at current state Chelsea to show it doesn’t always work out.

Too many people are obsessed with Man City and Chelsea tbh, especially as both went about things with some dodgy practices.

    Never a penalty, that's a fucking disgrace.

Those are always given nowadays. I guess the player is under no obligation to move his foot out of the way, and ride the challenge.

I thought that, but tbf to the rat he would've had a very difficult angle to put that away

Even the decision to go around the goalie annoyed me, although this is just a personal pet peeve of mine.

The ball was so perfectly weighted onto his stronger left foot for him to finish. Always much prefer strikers that finish first time confidently.

Never trust strikers that look to round the keeper, except for R9 who did it like no other.

A good example of that is I can honestly say I had never heard of Isak or Guiamares until they signed for us.

Arsenal fan I know thought they had done great business going for the 'big club', 'proven' option in Jesus, while in the same time period we were signing Isak, who he said wasn't 'proven' enough for Arsenal.

Now all he ever talks about is Isak ... all the damn time, and how Arsenal should go for him, and I just laugh at him.

Imagine having all these scouts and access to all the latest sports data, and still not being able to see past the 'big club', 'proven' mindset.

Long may it continue though, as long as we don't do the same, because it is allowing us to make up some serious ground really quickly.

  10. You only have to look at the clubs pursuing both Tosin and Kelly, both here and abroad, to understand their quality.

This idea that quality players only exist at big clubs is so weird, but is a very common way of thinking in this country. It's that similar line of thinking that has people always wanting to send any decent player to those clubs too.

    So so weird man.

While its always sexy to spunk a load of money on a galactico signing, I reckon some are forgetting that we need to improve the overall quality of the 25 man squad, not just the 1st 11.

Have we all forgotten the state of our bench options this season?

I blame FIFA Ultimate Team for this nonsensical way of thinking. 100% their fault.

Nope it’s totally fair, this forum suffers from recency bias and are over ratting him due to us being smashed by them.

Palace have been in the league forever and never made any progress beyond mid table.

before I’m jumped on I’m not saying he’s bad or anything like that but again, nothing to suggest he’s elite or best in class at this stage.

Thinking people are positive about Freedman because we recently lost to Crystal Palace is an interesting take, that's for sure!

  13. 23 minutes ago, Beth said:

Adarabioyo and Kelly are both playing for mid table teams. It makes perfect sense to get them if we are aspiring for mid table, but not so much if we want top four.....

    Yikes! So incredibly simple minded.

Good thing we never signed that Gordon kid from relegation battling Everton. Would have been a disaster.

Rather Freedman over Mitchell if that’s the choice seems to have done a cracking job at Palace with recruitment.

What surprised me most was something I read about the contacts he's established in South America, but I can't find the article. It was around the time they signed Matheus Franca straight from Brazil. It talked about the agent and footballing relationships he'd established globally.
