  2. Athletic article about Gomez' future; Liverpool discussed selling Joe Gomez to Newcastle in June. His future is still uncertain Negotiations were so advanced over the proposed transfer of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to Newcastle United in late June that payment terms were discussed. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes had agreed to sell Gomez for £45 million ($57.6m) based on winger Anthony Gordon heading in the opposite direction for £75million — two separate deals but each dependent on the other. Newcastle CEO Darren Eales wanted the bulk of the fee for Gordon up front as Newcastle sought to raise funds before the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) reporting deadline. Tentative enquiries were also made with the England camp about holding medicals for Gomez and Gordon during the European Championship in Germany. Newcastle had initially wanted to sign Jarell Quansah but were informed that the 21-year-old academy graduate, who made 33 appearances during a breakthrough season in 2023-24, wasn’t available at any price. However, when Newcastle turned their attention to Gomez, Liverpool were willing to negotiate. The club’s longest-serving player also made it clear during discussions that he was open to joining Eddie Howe’s squad. Newcastle were offering him regular game time in his preferred role as a right-sided centre-back. At the eleventh hour, the deals were shelved. Newcastle backed out of letting Gordon leave when the £35m sale of Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh’s £30m move to Brighton & Hove Albion gave them the £60m they needed before the PSR deadline on June 30 without offloading one of their biggest assets. A month on, little has changed but the landscape could soon shift, with Gordon and Gomez returning to club duties next week following an extended break after their England commitments at the Euros. Liverpool remain big admirers of Gordon, who had his head turned by the interest of the club he grew up supporting. However, Liverpool also appreciate that Newcastle, who intend to offer Gordon a new deal on improved terms, are no longer under the same financial pressures.

I really hope this goes through - an absolutely unbelievable signing and huge statement of intent! Hall - Botman - Guehi - Tino All under 24! I recall during one of the Euro matches saying he'll end up at Man City so fingers and bollocks crossed we get it 'OVER THE LINE' to quote Pardew!
  4. Said this at the weekend - the only way we'll spend big on a RW if we sign Guehi is if Gordon goes and Barnes slots in at LW

  9. So do I pal - I'm dreading seeing footage of our beautiful city getting trashed by brain-dead idiots - hope you're 100% right and I'm wrong but yep, it's the ones from outside of town that worry me.
  10. I'm the complete opposite - I sadly think it will be utter carnage - a week's notice for numpties from God knows where to prepare for it - I really hope I'm wrong but I'm literally dreading the footage -I'm so pleased I'm at a music festival as I think town will be horrific all day. Already seen on twitter groups from York, Leeds coming up on the train and making a full day of it.
  11. I’m astounded we only gave him a 3.5 year contract - as above - it’s either new deal this summer or sell sadly due to the shite PSR
  12. He 100% should be captain - channel every way in the world to keep him here forever!
  13. I heard he was away to Saudi in November - the ‘warm weather training’ in Dubai……..
  14. Grealish seems like an absolutely top class bloke
  15. Ha ha I was racking my brains trying to think of someone more recent - how did I forget him!
  16. Agree - it's absolutely mental!
  17. Having followed his career intensely since his debut, I am very pleased about this.........! He looks to have great potential and under Eddie's tuition, he will only get better and better! Very astute business! Mind, let's hope he turns out better than our last Danish forward (albeit he was played in the wrong position and didn't do too badly after he left!)!
