With the games announced on consecutive days anyone buying a ticket should have been well aware they likely wouldn’t see the strongest XI. This whole pre season has been about getting fitness in the legs of the full squad against decent opponents.

Main reason he is hated here and elsewhere because he treated the fans and club with contempt. There’s plenty of average managers we’ve had previously whom I don’t have a deep personal loathing of (although quite a few I do ).

How does it not end in tears? If he’s shit it drives resentment of his wages. If he does well and they exceed expectations every other player who’s played well wants a new contract closer to what he’s getting. If the club gives in then they make it hard to move on players when they need to or they face an exodus of players going elsewhere for more money.
