Well, I can think of one reason.
-
He scores goals. No one is disputing that. The issue is he’s not a good enough athlete to suceed at our pressing game and doesn’t have the ability to help break a side down in games like today. Eddie bought him as an auxiliary player who’d be on hand to capitalise on final third turnovers, anyway. He didn’t start him today even with Elanga benched and Gordon suspended, which says quite a bit.
-
Don’t think it’s a difficult one. If we’ve got 2 strikers in a couple of days time we loan him out to a Championship side. He’d get a regular game for one of the shit ones, surely?
-
He’s scored in about one fifth of the league games he’s played for us. His return is very good but lets not pretend he’s a wing Van Nistelrooy. He’s exactly what we knew he was a year ago. A very limited winger who is absolutely clinical when a chance presents itself. He’ll never be the answer starting games.
-
I don’t think you can blame him massively. Games like that highlight how one dimensional we are I suppose but he’s been badly let down with the striker situation. 3 games without a striker man. It’s pitiful.
-
He’s one of the least physically gifted wingers you’ll find in the league in this day and age mind. Such a one trick pony but his trick is good for a few goals off the bench.
-
So desperate for quality up there. It’s criminal the first 3 games were neglected like this tbh. But we move on. With the pitch like that it was a game for real ability on the ball and there’s basically none.
-
Schar did nowt wrong. It was Trippier not showing for it. See Pope’s reaction.
-
Ey?
-
We’ve been ok. Getting into that brilliant position out wide inside the box again but not enough quality or anticipation to make it count.
-
Was that utter twat ever critical of the club when Ashley owned it? Did he ever make a peep about journalists being banned and flags being torn down?
-
On the other hand it took a plethora of absurd circumstances coming together to even get him linked. There’s very little in his record to suggest he’s a starting striker at a CL club.
-
Surely CL games aren’t being played at that Kairat ground? I hate to sound so elitist but fucking hell.
-
Carl Cort injury time winner at the Gallowgate maybe. Good times.
-
Nothing to suggest he’s worth north of £40m really. £75m is absurd, even in this desperate context.
-
Was 16 years ago I lived there in fairness.
-
Exactly what Strand would cost or slightly less. I’d always defer to Eddie’s judgment but we’re end of August now and the targeting of proven 7/10 PL players strategy is just costing us points now.
-
Well Moise Kean would be my pick if we’re going someone 25 or younger with a high ceiling but a sufficient level of proven ability for around the 60 million euros mark. But it’s not my job to scout. What we can actually afford is a lot of money to a lot of European clubs who have far richer striking options.
-
There are genuinely top forwards with potential to be elite we could sign for that. Surely we’ve got to look beyond the PL now.

And on the subject of Leeds as a city I lived there for a year before moving to Manchester. Leeds is the only place I’ve been where you didn’t have to look for trouble, it would just try to find you. A lot of really awful backwards areas bordering the city and they’d swan in on a Friday / Saturday night with a chip on their Stone Island / North Face padded shoulder looking for a fight. They never dared go near a tower of strength like myself, even with the irritating handsomeness but a few of my absolutely harmless mates got it. Really don’t miss Leeds at all. Ominous vibes everywhere.

Elland Road. We did our mid-year review conference there in June on account of the COO being a Leeds fan. It’s a dilapidated wreck.
-
It’s Leeds. Shithole that it is, Elland Road gives them something extra - especially at this point in the season. We’ll have Osula or nobody up front and Miley is still a long way off being up to it. I get why there isn’t an avalanche of optimism. In theory we should win but football doesn’t work like that.
