I’m sure I heard recently he scored in 9 finals out of the 9 he played in, or something similar. Outrageous for such an unselfish forward. Big game player who completely changed the perception of the role of an EPL striker, as someone else said.

I think what people on here have advocated more than anything else is having a plan B and being able to kill the game in patches and keep the ball away to the 7th-14th sides in particular. Not to mention score more ‘easy’ goals that don’t always necessitate a tonne of intensity to turn it over. I’ve never wanted us to step away from high press because it clearly suits both our budget and Eddie’s strengths as a tactician / man manager better than anything else and always will.

Because we haven’t signed a set piece specialist or notable attackers of the ball from dead ball situations - or even attempted to. I really can’t agree that we’ve tried to move in that direction at all.

Elanga is exactly what every Man U fan told me he was so far. You can’t write off a player after 10 games but he’s really stretching the point. I think we’ve forgotten what a technically ‘elite’ player out wide looks like.

We’re useless but too many of our players are so beneath the standard. Trippier can’t run any longer. Dan Burn at left back. The midfield regardless of the personnel don’t look like they have a clue what to do far too often. Joelinton is surely well into the phase out stage now. In Eddie’s defence he got rid of the two weak links at half time. The other side of that coin is he paid £55m for one of them to supposedly improve on our most creative player.

We’ve got no goal threat whatsoever have we. Completely reliant on nicking the ball high up the pitch to make something happen.

Even back then we had multiple better players in Lascelles’ position. Not sure what he did other than kiss Bruce’s arse at every opportunity.

96-97 R9 was about as good as you could ever see. 47 goals and a ludicrous amount of them solo efforts. Shearer was great that season obvs.

I didn’t expect much when Elanga signed and I’ve seen nothing to change my mind on that. He might make a good impact sub in time but he’s not and never will be the player to unlock defences in a high press. I’m still fuming we didn’t throw the kitchen sink at landing Mbuemo. Ah well. We look solid at the back and Woltemade had a good second half despite clearly being frustrated as hell with the poor service.

We’re so poor out wide. That’s my biggest concern and and it’s seeing us lose the ball again and again when the team are out of position. Fortunately we have Tonali or we’d be in trouble. Better in the second half when we compressed the play a bit.

I can’t speak for everyone, but certainly everyone I knew and everyone on here back in late summer of 2010 knew how utterly shit Alan Smith was and how desperately he needed to be replaced.
