  1. So, it's confirmed then? womblemaster is JFK after he's gotten fucked up on cowies?
  2. Only reason I'll still watch our games at this point is in the hopes that Hatem does some magical thing that I'd hate to have missed. If he goes then I'll just be checking results every weekend.
  3. This is just tragic. Worst part is that they haven't included the sense-talking callers afterwards, so it's just 100% unfiltered Joe.
  4. What happened to Leandro Damaio, wasn't he meant to be pretty decent?
  5. James Martin could really whip us into shape. http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00547/SNN0609BJ-280_547696a.jpg
  6. Stopped reading when he claimed we could have had Ben Arfa for half a million. Throughout his career he's been considered a huge talent even from his time at Clairefontaine, at no point would Lyon or Marseilles have let him go for 500k ffs. Even with a snapped leg he still cost around £5m, back when he was young, highly rated and you know, not crippled, he would've cost a fair bit more than half a million.
  7. The mercenary thing comes from him basically stating that he'll go where the money is. Apparently he has a lot of people to look after. Either way, I'd take him back. Really? Do you have a link? Nope, just recall him stating something along those lines shortly after leaving us. Honestly no idea where I read it, but I'm fairly sure it was discussed on here. If it helps, it was something to do with the number of people back in Senegal that he's responsible for. He needs as much money as possible so he can continue supporting others. EDIT: Actually, here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2255585/Demba-Ba-says-gives-money-family-forget-people-struggle.html Mercenary is a bit harsh, but the sentiment seems to be that he was always going to take the biggest contract ahead of footballing reasons (not that Chelsea don't trump us there too).

  9. hope the ? is someone who's natural game involves getting in the box as that line up, for all it looks good, has similar problems to last seasons in cisse being isolated. I'm struggling to remember many if any occasions that ben arfa received or was in a position to receive the ball in the box, i don't put that down to tactics but it just not being in his game. This. Exactly why our 4-3-3 worked so well despite Ba not being a natural left winger - he always wanted to get into the box.
  10. Neither had a bad first 6 months. Incorrect. Think what you like, man. Both looked good players to me and I said it at the time. Well then well done you. Seemed to me that they (Colo especially since Jose didn't get a great deal of playing time) looked like they needed to adjust to the league. Colo particularly looked weak as hell, getting caught out of position several times. I never said they were bad players, just that they improved massively once they got used to the style of play here (a season in the lower league didn't hurt either mind). Same holds true for Yanga Mbiwa and Debuchy imo, neither have looked awful but they definitely haven't played as well as they will once they've adjusted to the league.

  12. Meh, I see it as no different to Colo and Enrique. Should we have sold them after their bad first six months?
  13. I have no idea what just happened.

  15. Met a Newcastle fan on a night out the other night. He was absolutely convinced that Pardew is a good manager who was being let down by the players. Used the whole "but... 5th!" argument. I heartily disagreed, but I think it shows that the overriding opinion on here isn't necessarily shared by most, unfortunately.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

An average slightly skewed by the fact he missed a year with a broken leg? He missed just about half of last season, and a 1/3 of the season before. Injury Proned. He's had one muscle injury that's never been given time to heal. It's not like he's constantly picking up little twinges, everything has been impact injuries bar the hamstring which was clearly mismanaged (either by Pardew, our medical team or the one at Clairfontaine). To say he's injury prone is a bit much, he very well might be, but there's no real evidence for it yet.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Stick him on the right in a fluid 4-3-3 (something we've played with this squad, but without some of our better players) and he'll be incredible again. Don't sell him for any price imo, too special.
  18. Don't see why it was a delusion tbh. It was never going to happen because Pardew kept his job, if he had gone then we stood as much chance as anyone. Benitez said he wanted to stay in England, we'd be as attractive a choice in that regard as any of the clubs looking for new managers, bar perhaps Everton who probably wouldn't take him due to the Liverpool link. Seems easy to say it was a delusion now that it hasn't happened, but it was fairly logical (as much as anything in football is).

  20. As it's something like 200ft up in the air I would think a Guinness world record would be handed out. You sure? It's looked a hell of a lot closer in a few shots... Zoom? If its on the arch aye it'll be that high, if its a standard wire cam it won't be. No I mean a few times it's been in shot from another camera and has looked like 20-30 ft off the pitch. Be a wire cam then. No medals or world records to be seen here.

  23. That camera shot made me feel ill.
