He'll be playing lesser teams, given that they're not in the Champions League. Just what he needs leading up to the World Cup. Even so that's still not a different challenge, just taking away a few teams he's playing now, he won't be playing against anyone he isn't already at Chelsea.

Relegation is very a real possibility. In all honesty, I don't see why Ashley doesn't put Shearer on a month to month contract, so he can stop us being absolutely fucked in the Championship, and actually work on getting players we need etc. And then when the club (if ever) is sold, if the owners don't want Shearer then in less than a month they can just not renew the contract. I think Shearer would go for it, he seems as frustrated as us at not being able to do anything to help.

Not to go poking the wasps nest here, but what evidence do we have that Ashley is being unreasonable? Isn't it possible that the bidders are themselves trying to negotiate the best deal possible and won't meet his evaluation? Again, I'm not saying this is what I think, just putting it out there as a possibility as I haven't seen any evidence that Ashley is being more of a dick than usual.
