He's top class but we lose him or have him playing below 100% a lot of the time anyway through injury. Don't want to lose him like, but think with high fee that's re-invested well it wouldn't necessarily be that bad.

After growing up with Shearer, I was very emotionally attached to the idea of having a quality geordie striker leading the line - him going felt more than just losing a good player.

I think he could've been class talent wise. The combination of power and aerial strength with his talent with the ball of his feet was quite special I think. Not world class but by no means average. Not sure it'd have worked out great with him staying at an unambitious Ashley NUFC though either. Really enjoying him going to Bordeaux.

I expect Chelsea will be better than last season, but I think we could be too. Chelsea could still be well off their potential this season, going off days like today.

I reckon 4th/5th is well up for grabs regardless of us strengthening the squad, though obviously that would improve our hand a lot. I reckon the top 3 are out of reach, then we'll be up against Chelsea, Spurs, Villa and potentially ManU with a managerial change for 4th and 5th. All those teams have inconsistency in them. I'd make Villa favourites for 4th, but we'll see how they get on as the CL piles up further.
