I think these next three league matches are massive. Three very winnable games, should be winning really. Come out with 9 points and things could look quite bright. As was evident tonight, Chelsea and ManU are shakey too. If Liverpool get their act together there are 4 teams better than the rest. 5-6th is quite open

One more goal to match his top scoring season
-
It doesn’t take long once I realised BBC shows last season’s score under the result (and remember our own). i used to this for our own results on my wall score chart when i was a kid.

Haha. I’ve been tracking us and who I thought might be our 4th-6th place contenders’ results compared to last season. So eg ManU lost at home to Wolves last season, so were actually +1 tonight. For promoted teams use last seasons relegated teams. This is sometimes known as the Uncle Jeff coefficient in tb podcast circles. Now im committed I can’t stop

He feels a bit of an anomaly in an era when a lot of the romance has gone. This guy is a proper romantic, I fucking love him. Whatever happens in the rest of his career, he'll always be a legend here.

[LCF] Newcastle United 2-1 Liverpool - NUFC LEAGUE CUP WINNERS
Superior Acuña replied to 54's topic in Football
I enjoyed that more than if we ever win the Champions League. :-) Nothing will ever beat it. The best of being a football fan, distilled. Honestly feel a bit sorry for fans of clubs who win so much they'll never what that feels like. Or of course those that never win anything. We were really lucky. (I feared I'd be in the latter). Before even seeing this thread I'd watched Burn's goal 4 or 5 times today. -
Relatedly, where was the first place to get the Euro?
-
I think CL is unlikely now but still don't think it's impossible. I think prob 4 teams are uncatchable but the rest are inconsistent enough that a really good run could see us in contention. That really good run is possible, but the longer we drop points the better that run will have to be and the less likely it seems! Tbh even a 4-5 match winning streak could see us looking like being in the mix. If we match last seasons results in remaining games plus beat Everton home, West Ham home and Brighton home, then we'll be on the same points as last season...

Aaron Ramsdale: return to Southampton confirmed

I think that's harsh on him for both goals. Also got my doubts about him but couldn't fault him today. -

I was wrong in saying the Gordon one was fair to not be a pen, but if people are talking about the 'handball' from the Woltemade clip - I've just watched that again - and that definitely is not a handball. He's right behind him and it's straight at him, arm natural position. You've seen them given but they're a joke. -

Didn't notice contact on legs to be honest, saw him get checked in upper body. Will watch again when I can bare to view the game. I don't believe the refs have a vendetta against us or Joe though, so regardless don't think it'd be different with Big Joe. -

I reckon that should be a pen on Gordon, but as soon as I saw it was on his shoulder I didn't expect it to be given, and wouldn't expect it if it was Big Joe or Tonali doing it either. He need to get in front and take the contact on his back to get a pen. (FWIW the commentators on my feed - ESPN LatAm - didnt think it was either_ Even if it was, wouldn't be focussing on that for why we didn't win, there was no goal being denied in that situation. We didn't win cos we didn't put away our other chances, defending one of theirs poorly and they scored a good free kick. I don't really fault the players for that today though, thought it was a good effort - made it all the more gutting. ----- On another note our home games against Chelsea have to be one of the most consistently intense games. Should be a sure pick if I was in charge of what's on telly. Right, I need a break, drained. -

What's the pen people referring to? Not being cheeky. The Gordon one? I thought it was excessive force and wanted, but understood it not being given, not a shocker or anything. -

I'm gutted, that's a killer man. To play like that and not win. Not our season. Need a football break. -

Poor Bruno having to comfort a mascot -
Exactly. Remember passionately singing 'never be defeated' at Villa Park at full time after relegation. Yes, we'd literally been defeated that day and many times that season, it had rarely meant more.
