I was terrified that was going to be the cup that broke our decades-long trophyless streak. It's the one cup that I feel doesn't properly count (tho Europa felt it was going that way too last season) and I didn't want anything taking away from that moment. However, now we've won one and I'd def enjoy adding this to the collection without reservation - but aye it wouldn't count in same way as any of the others, and I'd much rather we were aiming higher.

Yeah same. I'm not a total luddite and am not in theory in opposition to all technology in the game - I'm fine with the goalline tech. But I'm against anything that takes away from the greatest thing about football - the visceral joy when the net ripples (which has been replaced by a flow chart in my head. Could that have been offside? Or in the build up? Could it have hit a hand? Could there have been another foul?). I'd probably limit it to the first of those two, as I think the second opens the can of worms more. We accept the referee makes mistakes, video can only be used in the case of violent/dangerous instances because then it's not just a matter of rules but player safety. Or just none at all, that's fine too.

I guarantee I wouldn’t hate the alternative more. I far preferred the VAR-less way, however shit decisions were sometimes. Nothing is worth what it’s done to the best part of football - celebrations. Absolutely blows my mind that it’s been allowed to happen.

Nah, it’s VAR. Even a perfectly functioning VAR is easily the worst thing to happen to the game in my lifetime.
