Aston Villa v Newcastle - 24/05/09 - Pre-match thread

Don't really know what to say, but know that this, quite probably will be my last post as a Premiership fan. Going down tomorrow and strangely very excited, but of course terrifed too. I really hope it's an amazing atmosphere, regardless of outcome. Let's show them, and make the players realise how big this really is. HOWAY THE LADS -
I like him. He definitely frustrates me sometimes, but he makes great balls occasionally (which is more than the 'never' of others) and give his all.
-
thats how many have done it. i, on the otherhand being more thoughtful than the average cretin made the distinction of putting in players as they are today. hence, given, bellamy, woodgate and gary speed. Speed?
-
Me too! I was 7. I'd sat with him at one of those xmas parties in 95 and told him he was my favourite player. He was really nice, I didn't have a camera with me so he took my address and sent me a signed photo. For me: Ferdinand, Robert, Shearer, Bellamy, Solano, Speed.

Getting pissed off with other fans on another forum so desperate to see us down. Their main reason is our fans actually aren't that great, and we're not big because we've not a won a cup in so long. I don't get how one minute they can say our fans are crap, and then say are team is crap. So if we've not won a cup in so long but still get great attendances, doesn't that say something about the fans (and maybe the size of the club that we can 'overcome' something as fundamental as a lack of success).

Like Dave, I've found it funny at the time, but then missed them after. I definitely was amused by Leeds, because it was such a rapid fall, but I'd have them back now and was disappointed they lost in the play-offs the other week. I've never taken great pleasure though at any relegation apart from Sunderland.

Seems like this first game in a while people are desperate for tickets. Will there be a sizeable scatter in the Villa end?
-
I'd definitely like Viduka to at least have one goal to his name this season! Like: Viduka, Smith, Taylor, Duff Who it will be: Really dont know, probably Viduka, Owen, Oba or Taylor

Normally I feel relief when my exams finish (as they did today). Instead I'm even more nervous because I know what my next and greater test is. -
This Yeah I like that one too And me.
-
I'm not a fan of the ones with the sentiment 'we're still here despite relegation'. I mean, that should be expected, and fans of many other clubs support their club when they go down.
-
I've noticed that's not been sung at us in a while.
-
Not got any clever suggestions, but I encourage such banners. Maybe make it double-sided for staying-up - something to say we're pleased, but you're not off the hook.
-
A plea to all those going down to Villa...............

It'll be harder for them to laugh though, when they're making their youtube videos and crap. Singing is the best response I think "NEWCASTLE, newcastle..." -
I was really bewildered by his sale. Definitely flawed, but thought he was our best CB and his sale just seemed needless. Was pissed off when he gave us grief at St James's - seemed uncalled for, think most of us liked him and he wasn't getting abuse. He clapped at the Britannia but couldn't tell whether it was sarcastic or in response to some people clapping him.

I must have had some 5 to 10 dreams about the game tonight. Woke up so many times thinking that we had just been relegated or thinking that we were safe. I dreamt that we left Newcastle far too late, then got stuck in traffic and missed the whole match. We lost 4-0, and by the time I got there, Newcastle fans were running rampage in Birmingham, raping people and stuff. Ended up having to fight geordies. -
I'll be there. If I wasn't, i think i'd try and watch it in a pub or something with other fans, even though I often watch alone. Feeling the pain solo would make things worse I think.

If we go down, We Will Have Been the Best Supported Team to be Relegated

I'm guilty of it but it's just because it almost coincides with my life. First season i remember is 94/95. And I thought Everton had had over 100 years of top flight football? -

I think a pitch invasion celebrating the fact we're merely in the Premiership would be pretty damaging too - we're better than that. -

I know I shouldn't be, but as well as being terried, I'm so excited for Sunday. HOWAY THE LADS. -
The other sh*t teams' games - Hull 0 - 1 Man Utd, Sunderland 2 - 3 Chelsea

Pointless agonising. If only we'd beaten Sunderland or Hull... -

I would love, LOVE IT, if we beat Villa and mackems went down. Could even finish 16th! I'll shut up now. -

Excellent. Draw would be a good result as well, so at least it looks very unlikely now that they'll go in safe. Win would be better of course. -

Must be the mackems? the mackems are so sad I think they'd quite happily accept relegation themselves as long as we went down with them. I honestly think they would. They'd celebrate and laugh at us, if we pointed out their fate they'd be confused "but we had a great season. Newcastle got relegated!
