Savage article in the Times about the club - not for the sensitive
Superior Acuña replied to Cronky's topic in Football
Sick of the crap about Allardyce. Granted, he wasn't too popular, but no great amount called for him to be sacked, and i was genuinely surprised and indifferent when he was. I went to his last game at Stoke, and he was clapped off and waved! Regardless, if Keegan stayed or Sam was otherwise properly replaced, we wouldn't be in this mess, and Sam would be irrelevant. -
I've got my Newcastle top stuck on my window facing out in Edinburgh.
-
Did sound like there was a bit of booing as he was presented on one of their vids, but i heard none, just singing.
-
My arse. He's hidden in almost every game he's played since he arrived. Scared to demand the ball, scared to attempt to cross, scared to try to beat his opponent, scared to have a shot. I disagree with hidden. He doesn't pull the trigger enough true, he's certainly been flawed in several areas, but he's never hidden, and never been scared to demand the ball.

And did you really expect any different, had the match been played anywhere else in the country? I understand people getting annoyed, but my points are: 1. Schadenfreude. It is what football is built on. How this surprises anyone is beyond me, 2. People in this thread spouting utter nonsense like "s*** boring fans, s*** city yada yada yada" being probably the same people who - quite rightly - get the hump when others go on about fat blokes with their shirts off crying need to get a grip and think about what they're saying and what kind of negative stereotypes they're perpetuating. 3. If you'd gone down and nobody had batted an eyelid that's when you should be worried, not when it gets the kind of reaction and coverage it has just got. 4. Martin Laursen - we did give him a good send off. After we'd got your fans to stop singing through his speaking to the crowd, that is. I agree with your first three points but I don't like your insinuation we were disrespectful or something to Laursen. This was a huge game for us and I don't think we're under any obligation to pause our support for some speech. When it was something more serious, the half time memorial thing, I and many others stood and clapped.

 I think Duff deserves respect. He may have not shown great ability but he's always worked his arse off, cared and I think for a player like him, who despite his poor seasons could get a move based on reputation, means alot.

From an outsider looking in...I thought Keegan was a joke. He has never organized a defence, he's not right mentally and his style of management was still in the 2002 era. The only change he'd have made to your season is you would have gone down with more than 15 players on 50k a week. Perhaps you might have stayed up if he got just 1 more result but he was never the right person to take the club forward. Oh, and neither is Alan Shearer. Appoint a proper manager. Curbishley or Coppell. Who bought you your book of footballing clichés btw? The only one in this thread thread spouting more s**** has to be oldtype. Hmmm, ok, well we'll se next year what happens with Shearer. Although, if it helps you get over relegation telling yourself KEEGAN would have saved you, (when he didn't and he left you because he is a selfish out of touch mentalist), by all means...keep fantasizing about that. Meanwhile back in reality, everyone outside of Newcastle thinks Keegan is a joke. They can think what they like as they quite frankly bought the same book of footballing clichés such as yourself. You're confusing cliches for a repeated general public opinion.... How much is KING KEV trying to take from your club at the moment in compensation? I bet you a pint of Newcy brown or whatever that he takes more from you that what the club spend on transfers in this summer. Oh, and just noticed that you have a Keegan quote at the bottom of every post. How cliche! You're spouting drivel though. You're telling me he has never sorted a defence out even though we always used to have one of the best defensive records in the league during his first stint in charge. For a man who is a joke and knows nothing of tactics he changed the formation of the team completely last season to save us from relegation. He never went for a 4-3-3/4-5-1 variation we see. He actually went for a full on 4-3-3, something which I don't think I've seen used to such effect in the Premier League. He also rejuvinated Michael Owen, played him in a whole new position. Not bad like for someone who doesn't really know what he is doing. "I don't think I've seen used to such effect in the Premier League" Apart from Brooking's spell at West Ham when he nearly kept us up on record points.... Viduka played in that 433 you speak of....and he was injured...and so was Owen in this 'new role'...or in this KING KEV staying up fantasy of yours....do they stay injury free and fire you onto a creditable finish? Wake up fella. What's your basis for thinking Keegan would have relegated us? His 12th place finish last year? His 2nd place finish years ago? His saving us from relegation once before? His promotion with Fulham and Man City?

Heard him talking some crap this morning so I turned him off. There was an ignorant guy presenting last night too, saying Ashley wasn't particularly to blame.
-
I really think if he was fit for a long game he'd have started (Jose). I think he wasn't fit and was only there if we needed to get a goal, so he could free up Duff to attack.

His interview really touched me. How fans of other clubs can hate this man in a day where football is full of mercernaries is beyond me. This man is a true credit to the region and football and deserves nothing but respect. -
Duff was pretty devastated and he was one of the few trying (and has been for ages). He may be overpaid and lacking the talent he had, but I don't doubt his heart.
-
What the hell's he meant to do when he's being completely undermined, not really being a manager? Just go along with it?! Of course not, not unless you're a loser, prepared to be walked all over and let a club fail under you when you didn't actually have the control. He obviously told them it was unacceptable and they ignored him. He didn't walk straight out, they were locked in discussions. Only a fool would stay. Even regardless of his second spell, Keegan deserves respect from all toon fans. We'd have had nowhere to fall from if it wasn't for him, and Shearer probably would be no more linked to us than Steve Stone, Michael Carrick or Chris Armstrong.
-
I know. So frustrating we were only a goal away and we didn't even get a corner or anything toget excited about. I kept just screaming pointlessly while it was in our own half "COME OOOOON! WANT IT!" As someone said, it made it easier in a way too. No closely missed chances giving us false hope.
-
I'm lookinh forward to new grounds and potentially more excitement if promotion hopes transpire.. I'm not looking forward to more midweeks as I can't make them - though we had plenty of monday nights this year anyway.
-
In Crumpy's thread about a banner I supported an anti-Ashley one, but while that sentiment should not be forgotten, I thought today was more about unity and defiance than attacking the cause of it all. Great banner. My facebook pic and i nicked Pav's av (sorry ) for other forums.

I don't want to go to bed, because I'll wake up as a Championship fan. While I'm awake I feel like I've seen a premiership team (technically, not quality-wise)today.
-
Whatever people sing to wind us up and post on message boards, many are sad to see us go. Several Villa fans came to me today before the game and said they really wished they weren't potentially sending us down, that we're a great club and Shearer's a great man.
-
I know. My (non-geordie or football fan) girlfriend was correcting stupid stuff when she went to read about the club while I was at the match. I was touched.
-
Didn't see one. Saw a couple in the Villa end "Sob on the Tyne" (witty!) and some drivel about Ant & Dec on a bed sheet. I stayed as well at the end, absolutely brilliant. missed my train because of it and which is why i only just got in 10 mins ago! 13 hour round trip. I know, it was actually pretty great day out to a relegation Nice weather, some free chicken outside, got an ice cream (with a flake and strawberry sauce on) then had a good old sing song. In many ways it genuinely was more enjoyable because of the end than some of the dire, soul-destroying trips to the likes of West Ham and Blackburn.
-
I'll go to as many as I can, probably around 10, but that'll be dictated by date rather than team. I'd like to go to the obscure ones, the sort of teams I never expected to be visiting. Unfortunately I can't go to any games, home or away, til mid September.
-
I was there and didn't see a single person crying, only one lad close to it who I gave a pat. Cameras must have searched for them good. Rarely have I been as proud to be a Newcastle fan as at the end of the match today. I feared violence or tears but the response was full of integrity. I stayed back with many others for at least 20 mins until I was hoarse. We gave the players as much as we could, from the second they came to warm up the stadium was filled with noise, throughout much of half time. Howay the lads.
-
Haha, i said this in the car. Dunno like, he can do a decent job in the Championship, but we'd want rid straight away if we went up. Kevin Phillips?
-
There was a big one with 'Proud to be a Geordie. We'll support you evermore" on.
-
Owen did clap the fans. Never saw anyone scarper. The Villa players clapped too later.

Aston Villa v Newcastle - 24/05/09 - Pre-match thread
Superior Acuña replied to Godot's topic in Football
The 'last post as a premiership fan' is going a bit far. Even if the worst happens tomorrow, I don't think it's the last time we'll ever be in the premiership. True. For the foreseeable future. Except it was my second last now.
