I think he'll be a great loss. Great player in his day and then virtually straight into punditry and even though he talks bollocks at times, don't we all, he's always been a voice to be respected.

Hummels, in my opinion, is the best centre back in the World.

Whey he certainly won't become 'one of the greats in Europe'. Not that it makes offloading the lad acceptable. He captained a side that won the league when he was twenty-one. I have little doubt that he will really develop under different coaches and show what he's made of. Has so much potential it's ludicrous. he's 25 now, he's as good now as he'll ever be. Spouting the Pardy line yet again. Amazing how you get away with such shite. Let's try and educate you a tad. As mole said, centre halfs reach their peak at 28ish for starters. Secondly, when he had a proper extended run in the side was coincidentally our best part of last season until he was ridiculously dropped by our Happy Shopper manager, so it is no wonder that he didn't look quite as good when he made sporadic appearances, many out of position later in the season. He will become Varane's regular partner for France when managed correctly I'm sure.

They're all better than all of your centre halfs.

Some days late but here I am. Benfica fans in general are sad to see him go but we knew he would leave sooner or later. He's the most talented player I seen in Benfica since Di Maria, as I stated before. Regarding the fee, I believe we could get an extra 10-15M€ in one year or two, after he refined his game a bit more, problem is a third party owns 50% of Markovic economic rights and they aren't willing to wait. Just like Ramires. I genuinely believe he'll be one of the best in the world given the time to improve. Liverpool made a great signing and at the exact timing. One more year and he would certainly be bought by some crazy oil guy with way too much money and free time. Unless he fails his medical exams, it's a done deal. I hope there's a problem with his teeth or something. It's ok, there's a dentist in Liverpool with a big hole to fill appointments wise.

You're named after one of the finest centre forwards in history. He's named after Roy Keane's dog. I think for once you have the upper hand[emoji38]

Sorry but the Brazil 90 side was far worse than the 86 one. This side is better than the 90 side but not as good as the 86 one. The 86 side had Careca and Josimar plus a lot of the 82 squad though most were past their best.

For the avoidance of Doubt, Pardew is Mullins over Mascherano, Gosling over Ben Arfa, Elliott over the emergency pilot in Airplane!, Archer over Orwell, Big Country over the Ramones, Brighton Belles over Golden Girls, Barney the Dinosaur over Godzilla, In the Night Garden over Jamie and His Magic Torch, Kula Shaker over Super Furry Animals, Chris Evans over Howard Stern, The Business over the Long Good Friday and Williamson over Baresi - negative cunty bollocks 0 lollipops, sunshine, romance and common sense 4. Except Kula Shaker piss all over Super Furry Animals.

Strong contenders, for sure. I'd say we were weak contenders actually otherwise it makes us look positive.

These debates will always be about though, because there cannot be a defining answer...it's great fun doing it though..I've had many conversations down the pub over the years comparing sportspeople from different eras.

In fact I probably would select Neuer ahead of Maier if both were around today. Maier was to all intents and purpose, a better version of Kahn. But not as good as Neuer is.
-
I haven't seen Yashin but I have the rest.
-
Nor is there that they would be. What im saying is that to me the best goalies generally come from a bygone age. The likes of Banks, Yashin, Shilton, Arconada and even Sepp Maier would walk into any XI today. Edit: Add Zoff, Dasaeyev and Preudhomme to them also.

Think his English relative plays for Torquay.

Goalkeepers are better footballers today for sure because of the need to be with the back pass law. But they aren't better goalkeepers.

Garrincha was doing that in the 60's with a pig's bladder.

Why does it? Catching the ball ends all danger to your goal. Punching and parrying can easily go to an opponent. I would have said that it's exactly the other way around unless the 'keeper f***s up and the parry rebounds into the box instead of wide. Sorry im not seeing your point. If the ball is safely pouched in the keeper's hands; that's an end to the danger. If the keeper has punched or parried it it might not be. I don't see how anybody could argue otherwise. Okay, so if you try to catch the ball you have to use both hands, the angle that you can catch at is a bit more limited, if you spill it it's in the box, or of course you could miss it. If you punch it you can use one or two hands, you can get to more difficult angles, it's rare that you see a spilled punch that lands in the box, but of course you can miss those as well. Catching is great if it works, but it's riskier. Of course there's more risk but it was inbred into keepers to catch and therefore they practiced it and didn't drop the ball often, well the good ones anyhow. This was with the rough and tumble that was allowed on the keepers. Maybe that's why they caught the ball. Lying on the deck after being clattered whilst punching would've been a recipe for disaster.
