Goal 4 - The Shefki Kuqi Story?
-
Spending £10m on Carlton Cole would make me weep.
-
Really? I find it hard to believe that Mike Ashley put that sort of power in Hughton's hands even though he didn't trust or rate him. That said, I don't know the actual truth.
-
Exactly, we all know Best hasn't been the greatest player in the world, but he's getting some goals for us and is still young enough to adapt to the Premier League.
-
Well I only really know the last two, and the 1990s was definitely better than the 2000s!
-
Doyle is good but doesn't score enough goals. I would see him as a partner for Carroll rather than a replacement. Also, this is just press linking anyone from a club likely to go down, it's nonsense.
-
I thought we'd established during the Keegan case that the manager isn't really responsible for transfers?
-
My Spanish isn't native speaker level TBF.
-
And also, a good timely PR response from the club for once.
-
Hardly, this is the first season he's been good enough to be anywhere near a Spain place.
-
FWIW I love Enrique and hope he doesn't leave, and I would be critical of the club if they didn't try hard to keep him. I just also love NUFC, and I don't like to see players come out and say these sorts of things in the press. Same with Barton. We aren't going to be a Champions League club over night, if he's set his mind on that then there's not a lot we can do. As I said though, he's my favourite player at the moment and I would be gutted if he went.
-
Ryder has a decent point, Enrique is a great player but I'm not sure what else he expects from the club at this point. If he wants to play in the Champions League then fair enough, he's entitled to try and get a move if NUFC agree to sell. Bit of a shame to see him come out in the press talking about moving on and broken promises. He should remember who pays his wages and who gave him a chance in the Premier League.
-
No, I think Nolan means he was chatting with Andy Carroll... Nolan said he would have accepted 25 and Carroll said he would have accepted 20 (if they had been owner).
-
If any team in the world could sign Jose for £10m they would have got themselves an amazing deal.
-
Assou-ekotto, Shorey and Konchesky!! You're having a giraffe.
-
He's in the top 4 or 5 fullbacks in the Premier League.
-
I agree, also being a wanker doesn't mean you're doomed in football at all. Often it means you'll be a great success!
-
Exactly, I posted something similar earlier. Unless Ashley had spent Man City-style since he came in, Europe would have been very unlikely. We still might have shown enough to keep the better players happy, but if they want the CL then there's nothing we can do.
-
Repka is one scary mofo!
-
Those things will never be as exciting as Ben Arfa accelerating through 3 defenders with the ball at feet. Sad but true.
-
I see what you're saying, but I really think the biggest factor is the sale of Andy Carroll. After that we went (in some people's view) from being a club that was just restrained in its spending to one that was prepared to let go of its most promising players. The fact that he was a local hero added to the effect of course. That opened the door for the fans to speculate constantly about who will be next to be sold, and for the players to come out and whinge about lack of squad building.

How much will we spend this summer (should we stay up :))? NET

Fucking hell man Ian, we got relegated. That's about the worst thing that can happen to a club of our size. Yeah, I thought that as I was posting that to be honest! I decided to leave it in because we bounced back so quickly and probably in better shape than before. So it could have been the worst possible thing to happen to us, but in the end it wasn't. That's the way with a lot of things we considered to be mistakes from Ashley (inc Hughton sacking)... quite a lot of them he's actually got away with. -
There's a lot of truth to this, we have a lot of potential to improve and push on. The trick is convincing him that we will, and part of that is investing in the right players in the summer. As far as I can tell it's not the team he's got no faith in, it's the chairman allowing the potential to be fulfilled that he doesn't have faith in. And who can blame him? I know, that's what I meant. We need to demonstrate we can at least build on our current position by bringing in the right players.
