Probably the best LB in the Championship? Has the potential to be one of the best overall, would love to see him stay.

Fair enough Mistle, I don't really 'trust' them either, I just know that it's in their interests to make this club a success. And I hope that the amount of shit we've been through, combined with the wake-up call that we actually aren't too big to be relegated, will make them ensure they get a decision right for once. I literally love Iniesta, beautiful to watch.

In a way I'd be more worried if it was already done, I don't want Shearer to stay unless he's 100% certain he's got the right arrangements in place.

I'd like to see a much bigger role for some of the younger players who haven't quite made it through this season, and DEFINITELY want to see the back of fucking Kevin Nolan.

I agree that sometimes we're a bit naive for wanting people with a 'connection to the north east' or whatever, but then again it's normally John Hall or someone like that who goes on TV saying that sort of thing. I hope that most fans would rather have Mourinho than Shearer, but I don't see why it is a bad thing to be excited by a club hero becoming manager. Would Chelsea fans be idiots if they welcomed Zola back, or Klinsmann at Spurs? We welcomed Keegan back because he had shown himself to be a good manager who favours attacking football - no problem there. And Shearer is an intelligent young manager who deserves a go, everything he has said indicates that he won't be standing on sentiment when it comes to forcing through the changes that we need. He more than anyone understands the problems we have had in the past, and I'm sure he's also noticed the sentimental streak that sometimes creeps in around NUFC. Syed is a nob anyway... in summary.

Bassong will have little say in the matter, he's under contract. We should take a lesson from the way Villa handled Barry last summer, they didn't pander to him and held out for the price they thought was right, when that didn't come along. They told him to suck it up and get on with playing for the club he's contracted too. Didn't seem to do them much harm this season. We are in no need to sell bassong, he's on a low salary, is contracted for 2 more years and is young and talented. Hold out for 10 million, if no one ponies up the money, then he stays, simple as that. I really hope that will happen, only fear is that if they can't cut the wage bill enough because we can't shift the rubbish then sales will have to compensate.

Probably the same assurances KK, was getting this time last year............. That's obviously the worry. The fact Wise/the DoF position went (and it was announced before Shearer's appointment) is still hugely significant though IMO. Yeah, I think the Keegan thing and what everyone has learned from it means it is very unlikely to happen again. Firstly, Shearer wouldn't sign unless he was absolutely sure he would have the level of control he wants, and even Ashley won't be stupid enough to undermine another NUFC legend (although I know some people would disagree!).
