If it was me I would've just kept playing Woltemade but I don't have the pressure of managing a PL team for real.
-
I thought we took Woltemade off just as he was starting to find some space, was an error.
-
I'd say that last part is debatable. We lack quality in the squad overall, especially without Tonali, Bruno and Miley. Certainly the type of quality that's about retaining possession and getting on top of teams.
-
Totally agree. I've said it before I've never expected a 'turnaround' or anything resembling a complete transformation of our play this season. Even as we've improved a bit I always expected further setbacks. It's just the nature of how we are at the moment, especially with lack of time to train and the injuries to all our technical CMs. We know we don't have the ability to dominate any team really. It will probably be up and down until the very end, our best chance now is that we have fewer games and some time to train.
-
Sure now he's fit, but I still believe the injury was a massive blow to his career here.
-
A lot also depends on if Gordon stays and insists on playing centrally. If so then it'll be difficult to play Woltemade where he should be played.
-
He's never been the smartest lad TBF, probably his biggest weakness. Out of all of our top players he's probably the one I would sell if we could get a massive fee.

Aaron Ramsdale: return to Southampton confirmed

Even if Howe isn't here we probably need to keep one of them. As you say, we won't sign 2 PL keepers in one window. They're both good enough to be backup TBH. -
From what I've read it sounds more like Wilson just started talking to Howe before he was appointed to build a good relationship. They hadn't actually worked together before, had they?
-
At the time I thought Wissa and Woltemade were a sensible combo. One who could lead the line at the start and was proven to have PL goals in him. The other a younger wild card who could be introduced gradually. But obviously the Wissa injury sorted that out.
-
Are we writing off Scott Wilson and the recruitment department already? Seems like he did a pretty good job at Forest and their signings were very good.
-
As long as we're letting the bad players go and keeping the good ones, I'm with you.
-
I just find it very odd if a young and clever manager like Howe would insist on a structure that doesn't exist at any top club. Would be an absolutely massive blind spot for his career.
-
Wissa was slightly too expensive but a pretty sensible signing given we needed some PL goals. Sadly he got a really bad injury before he had a chance to play and hasn't come back from it. The same issue also caused us to have to throw Woltemade in much more than we had planned. I feel like it's just a season with many compounding issues like this.
-
I would've been interested in judging Wissa if he hadn't knackered his knee as soon as he joined.
-
I keep telling people how many attacks Tonali stops per game.
-
He’s proved he can’t use technical players? Have I missed this?
-
Who me? I’m judging Delap based on the few times I’ve seen him play, aye. Like everyone else unless we’ve got some closet talent scouts on here. He’s only started 9 games this season so it’s not exactly loads to go on for anybody.
-
He’s not a player for games where you need to impose yourself. Just doesn’t have it physically or mentally.
-
Just think he’s strong and mobile, technically good. Not really based on anything he’s done this season obviously.
-
A trend since when though?
-
It’s not like he was just gifted 4.5 years like. He came in, saved us from relegation and qualified for the CL twice. All without a functioning club above and around him. It’s hardly a luxury to be allowed to save a football club and carry it on your back for 4 years.
-
Maybe not the time but I think Delap is very good
-
It is just one bad season though?
-
I would’ve also liked to have seen Wissa without an instant serious knee injury.
