Trafford is a proper idiot if he spends his best years as backup because of wages.

Decided I'm just going to clap and try not to get stressed. Pretend it's just a football match. -
Like I said, judging people just based on this season would mean you couldn't argue to keep anyone TBH. You have to look beyond this season.

Really hope not. -
I think we should only sell one big valuable player this summer TBH. It's very hard to judge who it would be based on this season only. Tonali has been quite poor, Tino has been injured, Gordon has been alright but inconsistent. Personally I would like to see all our best players retained unless it's absolutely essential for PSR. Then go through a process of upgrading the other lesser players. The club will have to think about a lot more than just who seems disposable based on this season's performance. I backed the approach of raising our floor last summer (even though it didn't work) but I think now we definitely do need a noticeable improvement in quality in some positions.

I do sympathise with the criticism of our selling to some extent, I just think you have to remember that we had to rebuild the squad from a really low bar. And the fact that we didn’t (don’t?) have a fully functioning and trusted recruitment side. I find it understandable that you sometimes decide to keep a player you know and trust rather than create a need for another signing.

I mean, if that league finish happens it would be really bad, but still just one season.

You’ve lost me -
But even then you’re basically saying one bad season equals the sack. It’s not really as reasonable as you make it sound.
-
Yeah his level is debatable but I do feel like he’s the one with the highest ceiling. And in football generally I’d say he’s considered top level, albeit by people who don’t watch him as closely as we do. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he went to Arsenal and absolutely tore the PL up.
-
Gordon’s no good from set pieces anyway, they don’t need him.
-
I feel like if we lose Gordon we effectively have no elite level attackers in the squad. That would be hard to put right in a summer.
-
Had a stall outside in Eldon Sq as well. Fairly mystifying.
-
Would like Joao Gomes as well, if a bit slow maybe.
-
Swear the commentator just said “he’s got to add more time on for a Liverpool goal”
-
Celebrated more than when we score.
-
I’m worried about next season. Imagine how much nonsense we could chat if there wasn’t a match every 3 days.
-
Exactly. It's a bad season, things have gone wrong. But sacking arguably your greatest ever manager in the prime of his career over it would be absolutely nuts. Only possible scenario I can see is if he was to throw a tantrum in the boardroom about anyone else helping him with transfers. But that's fairly fanciful and even the idea is based on assumptions about Howe which have very little basis in evidence. Or if he can't be bothered anymore, but I would hope that's unlikely given he's looking at a much less demanding season next year. Eddie is the man for summer and next season, has to be.

For me the 'slide and it hits the hand' would only be a foul if the player had deliberately made himself bigger or moved the hand somewhere where the ball could reasonably expected to go. Trailing arm for me would most likely be deemed accidental and no penalty. Arm in the air or not normally positioned for the blocking action would probably be a pen. But yeah, making it an indirect FK or something would at least soften the blow and lead to fewer free goals based on bad luck.

Weird fixture, I'm not at all confident but at the same time they are gettable and it would be a massive boost if we can win. Expect them to get some serious referee help sadly, unless we can really stay on top of them and prevent them getting into dangerous situations. -
The best possible handball rule is subjective IMO, did the guy try to handle the ball on purpose? Usually it's pretty obvious they didn't. A massive reduction in penalties would be great for football as well, such a low-scoring sport shouldn't be decided by random incidents giving teams free goals for nothing.
