  1. This. The fact that he is going for a quite affordable fee suggests we were just hoping a bargain would emerge rather than actively trying to sign up a player we have wasted 18 months scouting and watching regularly. Had on. What suggests that, exactly? The fact we didn't get involved when he was about to join a club that can offer Champions Legaue football? If they're getting him for 13m euro, that's not too far off the £10m we bid for him in January. i think the fact we didn't make a bid suggests that we didn't make a bid tbh. We had time to make a bid before Dortmund emerged that was a fairly recent development, but we didn't. but Mike Ashley appears keen to recruit within a budget again. Now, now. You know that's not what I meant, nor was it what Roger said. Since Ashley got his fingers burned, we've operated on a budget, hence our miniscule nett spend on players. I see no reason why that was to change. Perhaps you know better? The interest from Dortmund has been reported for a fair while now. I'd say we probably knew quite a bit more about it than is public, due to our ongoing dialogue with his club and the player's agent. I dare say that, had we made an decent bid (like in January), Dortmund may have been prompted into making a bid of their own. I appreciate that this is quite a leap, but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from. So, what's the alternative? Don't try at all? You haven't got the first idea that BVB would have bid in January. The Lewandowski situation wasn't as clear then as it is now. Your just speculating too. Read it again. 'I dare say that, had we made an decent bid (like in January), Dortmund may have been prompted into making a bid of their own.' Unless you mean something other than the words you've written, i got it the first time. Hence my post.
  2. I'm just speculating here, because I find it hard to believe Pardew would consistently overlook Marveaux despite the player proving to be invaluable on the pitch when space is tight, but maybe Marveaux' fitness wasn't as good as we think? Throughout his career he's been plagued with injuries, mostly muscular if memory serves, so what's to say the medical staff hasn't indicated to Pardew that he should be used very sparingly to avoid long layoffs due to muscle injury, i.e. not to push him too hard and consider him a luxury player from the bench only? I know it's fashionable to mock Pardew and our medical staff, so this will no doubt be laughed down, but it's possible, isn't it? It ties in with the fact he was a pacy winger early in his career, and now most often deployed centrally if at all, where bursts of pace and the likes are less often required. We've been crying out for somebody with a bit of pace and creativity on the left wing all season, and not once has Pardew tried Marveaux there. Argh, who am I kidding? Pardew is an idiot who can't see what we all can. It's possible. Defo. As for being good in tight spaces. Just don't think that's our game. Our game is quick ball that turns the defence around, not playing it about looking for openings. And another thing, Pardew gives a very high priority to what a player does without the ball. Where midfield is concerned i think he sees it as more important than what a players can do with it. And given we don't control the ball through the midfield it's a fair worry for him to have.

    Loïc Remy

A player who could fit into 'the ball over the top' ethic Pardew prefers. He's a good CF. Wasted as a wide forward if that's some people's idea.
  5. There was little wrong with Marveaux's fitness last year but he doesn't fit the style of the team. The style is dictated by the manager and he doesn't fancy him. I think Pardew probably has a fair appreciation of what Marveaux can do but he's also extremely concious of what he can't. Marveaux isn't Pardew's kind of player, plain and simple. Pointless him taking up wages for the odd sub appearance.

    Darren Bent

We could really do with a player of Barton's energy. We need midfielders who can cover an inordinate amount of ground imo. He's the best 4-4-2 'winger' we've had under Pardew, anyway. 'Working wide man' You know nuffing Yorkie Snow

  8. Yet to be convinced he can adapt to the Prem and totally unconvinced he can adapt to our team as it is. Transfer away probs best option for everyone.
  9. Younes Belhanda joins Dynamo Kiev. Fee believed to be 10M Euros.
  10. We really didn't even bid??
  11. Why would that be important?
  12. For all his talent he doesn't go looking for the ball enough. He's got the skills to really dictate things but not the personality it seems.
  13. Surely average is relative to the sample set being referred to? Therefore, in a league of 20, 5th is not average. And to be once place of CL spots is not average either.
  14. All the best music shops are in Berwick Street anyway.
  15. You are aware he breaks your rules in your previous post? Total hypocrisy but it seems alright when he does it
  16. I might also add that watching Interpolic lay into someone is often a complete highlight of my working week (seriously) so by all means, do carry on
  17. Full of emo kids this place at times Emo or not he's right. Really? Show me one shred of evidence that we are 'looking at Darren Bent' I mean actual evidence not a quoteless article in the Daily Planet. Edit: Is there a website that lists every PL transfer so far? Just want to see how 15 clubs have pushed ahead of us so far. If by evidence you mean quotes from the club actually stating interest, then that means we aren't in for Bony, Aubamayeng or Gignac either. We don't have proof we are in for Bent, as you don't have any proof we aren't. I am not the one crying over it though, we have plenty of time to sign people. You dont need to go into mass depression with every transfer story when 99% are complete bollocks. Although you're completely right i do think that a forum is often a place where people can dump their emotional outbursts without suffering embarrassment for it. Not directing this at you but posters who go to great lengths to appear 'above it all' and rational are a) less fun ( i enjoy reading people ranting and pouring over the side - they can be genuinely funny with it) and b) more disingenuous, bit too much sly oneupmanship going on imo. As i say, not directed at you, nearly all transfer tittle tattle is utter bollox but the over reaction is what makes threads worth reading and contributing to. Imho.
  18. You're practically bi-polar.
  19. This lot have proved quite poor at increasing our revenue. However, they've done the sensible thing with the debts.
  20. I was thinking earlier who wouldbe the perfect DM for Brazil. It didn't take long before I came to the conclusion that Javi Martinez is the guy. Luiz Gustavo does that role of DM/third central defender extremely well, but there's a reason to why Javi Martinez is ahead of him at Bayern. Can't think of anyone other than Martinez who would do that role so good. The way we play the DM needs to be a tall ball winner who is also comfortable on the ball and doesn't make any forward runs. f***ing Spain man Jucilei da Silva?
  21. Reminded me of Benjani(not just in looks) when i watched him in one game He reminded me of Jason Scotland He must have been turboshit that game if you mean more than just looks wise [/quote Reminded me of Benjani(not just in looks) when i watched him in one game He reminded me of Jason Scotland He must have been turboshit that game if you mean more than just looks wise It was the way the ball bounced off him by about 2 yards when he 'received' it and he proceeded to run over the defender who collected his 'trap', run 10 yards with his head down and then blast it. He does hit the ball well, mind. Gets a good connection. Reckon he could concuss you from the penalty spot tbh!

    Dan Gosling

He has no obvious qualities that would put him ahead of our even most crap/underperforming players. He's not even better than Jonas at CM.
