Harry Forrester ex Watford, came to us, was released by us last season (interesting lifestyle, by all accounts) has turned down Ajax. For Brentford. Apparently, though, with good reason. His mom is extremely ill and Ajax wouldnt let him travel back once a week. Fair play to him.

I'm in my mid 40s and most of my international football watching life has consisted of watching England play fucking Poland. It seems to be like Coronation Street ... if you stare at the telly for long enough, England - Poland will come on. Here's what will happen. We'll start really well in the qualifying, we'll have a slight dip (maybe a home loss to Montenegro), but go on to qualify top of our group. When the finals come around, the entire nation will get far too excited about it all, we'll start talking about winning it, we'll play three group matches, one will be convincing, the first two will be deeply worrying, drawing with Algeria and Norway or something. We'll get a shit Latin American country in the next round .. Paraguay, someone like that. We'll beat them. In the QF, we'll get some half decent side, play quite well, but get beaten. The deflation will then start in earnest for the entire fucking saga repeating itself four years later. Boring.

I remember saying precisely that when you signed him. He's got a gigantic confidence issue at the highest level.

The ever so trustworthy Dave said he'd take it off if i prove i'm not a WUM. That was over 2 years ago. That seems a bit harsh. And that's the nicest thing I'm EVER going to say about Spurs.

Not if Agbonlahor is anything like he was last year. A lot rides on N'Zogbia doing well. To be fair (and i say this as one who is not entirely convinced by him) Gabby was injured for most of the year, came back and was clearly still not fit, then got inexplicably stuck on the wing by Houllier. I think "the rest of the team sucks" is somewhat nonsensical too, to be honest. It's not a world beating team, but it's certainly not bad at all. I would say that swapping Downing for N'Zog and 10.5m is stupidly good business. McLeish has got a long way to go to convince me, but he's started quite well.

He's signed.
-
No he wouldn't. I wish you'd give him a try.

Bannon on the wing? I'm only looking at the line ups. Thought he was CM and strange with Albrighton on the bench. Got a fiver on you guys to win. Albrighton on for second half. Bannan frequently plays wide. Pitch looks horrible. Stadium now full of plastic Chelsea fans. "Mongolian Blues" FFS

Hate them though I do, I don't think I can bring myself to want them to go bust.

Watching our friendly with Blackburn, and that Formica bloke playing for them looks very handy
-
They really are un terrible trouble now. A very real risk of administration by all accounts.

Young went to Man United. If we'd replaced him with a player who was better than him right now, Man United would have bought him in the first place, rather than Young.
-
Give over man. Are you just going to ignore the players who have come in? People are arguing why we didn't sign Zog and I don't see if we can make all these signings what was stopping Villa? Haven't they sold a shit load of players for big money? If you looked at our forums and what people were saying recently, and still are in some cases, "look at Newcastle, they've got players in, we're doing nothing but get rid of them" was one of the most frequently heard things. Transfer window open = paranoia, delusion, misunderstanding and anger.

Young and Downing sold Friedel, NRC, Carew, and seven other players released.

When he came, I was despondent and convinced we were doomed. Now I think he'll do ok. Did I sound convincing?
-
Why would they not? Didn't CNZ agree to join Birmingham then ask for another 10k a week at the last moment? Mind you he probably saw some of the drooling retards he'd be playing with and decided he needed extra compensation.

Manager: "I want this player" Chairman: "How much is he going to cost me?" Manager: "5m" Chairman: "How much does your player want?" Agent: "65k a week, 3.5 years" Chairman: "The player wants a fortune. How much do you want him?" Manager: "I must have him" Chairman to agent: "Ok, you're on" Managers these days have to manage wage bills as well as players. 'Arry goes on about it every day of the week. For some reason, Martin thought he was above such trivialities.

He'd have had a very large input. Don't forget, these Americans arrived here knowing nothing at all about the game and how things work. MON stepped forward, said "I'll do it" and they let him do that. If they hadn't let him do this, they'd have been accused of not backing the manager. Their mistake was to back him so unequivocally. It was only when they'd wised up to a few things that they asked him to work on the wage bill and the selfish cunt threw his toys out the pram at a time designed to cause us the maximum trouble, the vindictive shit.

He is, believe it or not, our top earner. Lerner's right hand man, Krulak, posts on a lot of our forums. His son does, too, and let slip the Heskey nugget. No wonder we can't shift him. See, when outsiders say what a genius O'Neill was, they overlook stuff like the fact he'd never bother scouting players and just throw big transfer fees and stupid wages at UK based players because it was easier. He threw a strop and left because we wouldn't let him throw similar daft money at Robbie Keane (yes, yes) and Aiden McGeady. Ask yourself this. When Heskey rocks up, just about to turn 32, and is given a 3.5 year contract at 65k a week, or when Beye rocks up and gets a three year deal aged 32 on 40k a week, how well was Martin O'Neill managing - key word, "managing" - the club at that point?
-
Milner fee paid for Bent, apparently. So the £37m (?) for Young and Downing will be helping with this summers spend. That's true. The question still stands though. Can't imagine the wage bill % at those 3 clubs is small either. 88 percent last season. See my post above. This summer we've released Reo-Coker, Carew, Pires, Salifou, Osbourne, Friedel and three others (who I can't recall) - ten players in total. And we still have Beye (40k, another year left) and Heskey (65k, another year left) who we can't shift to save our lives.
-
Whelan has been telling everyone the fee for the last 2 weeks in the media. The fact it is 9.5 not 10 as it turns out doesn't really make much of a difference.
-
Bent was bought with the money we got from flogging Milner. I thought Downing was our best player last year and wanted him to stay, but I have to say, Downing out for Given plus N'Zogbia plus 7 million pounds is excellent business. Of the Downing + Young money, that still leaves 23m unspent. We won't be spending anything like that much, though. I'd be surprised if we spent more than another 10. Very surprised. MON left us with a gigantic wage bill and a selection of players doing fuck all, who cost big money (try Heskey, 3.5 year deal for a 32 year old, 65k a week, for instance). We're in a consolidation phase for at least the next season until we get some of this dross off the payroll.

Don't think I'd take that to be honest. Really? Crikey.
