  1. I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum a Birmingham fan saying Carr had been their best player! The manager wants to keep him too apparently! Imagine, Carr in the premiership and Newcastle not. There will be a lot of our 'shit' former players still playing in the Premiership next season.
  2. So that's why the media and the like try to maintain the status quo of the 'top 4' teams. To prevent mass suicides.
  3. Maybe there are some pointers on who the piss takers are on the "Players in Public" thread? And I think you're right about Butt and Duff. I would have thought so. Xisco seems to be spotted out drinking a lot and he's done nothing for us yet. Jonas and Martins seem to like to party too. You can do that when things are going well. When things are going badly you shouldn't be seen out on the piss.
  4. If the club want rid of him I doubt Barton would be willing to not play football for 3 years just to get his wages. He'd move on to the next club willing to offer him another 'last chance'.
  5. I wonder who the piss takers are? I guess we'll find out in the summer when they get shipped out. They may not be fan's favourites but I bet the likes of Butt and Duff are good professionals. Can't believe anyone would be against the club becoming more professional. Being professional works for the successful teams. Is it any wonder we're not successful?
  6. It is funny how journalists get away with this sort of reporting: - 'Player X' says to journalist "Blah, blah we hate the rules, etc. You can quote me but don't name me." Beye says to journalist "I'm loving the serious nature of the new management set-up. You can name me but don't put what I said as a quote." http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/05/05/beye-s-stay-on-plea-to-shearer-72703-23545029/2/ - Quotes are there. Not sure they particularly back up what the writer is implying mind. That's a new article. The previous one didn't have the quotes.
  7. I agree that the Barton tackle wasn't as bad as Smith's two footed lunge. The problem is, Barton has a lot of baggage. He knows he won't get treated fairly by the media. All the more reason not to do a stupid, pointless challenge. Another reason to get rid of him. All he brings us is bad press. It may not be 'fair' on Barton but he's had plenty of chances. Anyway, all we know for sure is he is suspended for two weeks. He isn't definitely getting shipped out. He was going to miss the last three games anyway. Having him at the training ground doesn't help us. He could play on the opposition training team but he could accidentally injure someone who can play in the last 3 games. Love that bit. "a momentary relapse on his quest for self-improvement"? It was his first game in ages and he gets sent off in it!

  9. The kind without quotes. Not dissimilar to 'a club insider' said type quotes.
  10. It is in most papers now including The Chronicle. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/05/05/newcastle-united-suspend-midfielder-joey-barton-72703-23545249/

  12. Keep him in a padded cell until match days then unleash him on the opposition?
  13. Before the game Shearer apparently told Barton to make sure he kept his head and not get sent off. He did the exact opposite. If Shearer has suspended Barton for that alone it's fair enough in my opinion. Barton knew how important he was for the last 3 games and he has made our survival battle even harder than it had to be.
  14. He's a marked man. The list of trouble he has been in is as long as your arm. No point being a good player if you get your self sent off. As for verbally attacking the manager, where the hell does he expect that to get him? A one way ticket out of the club. He's been with us two seasons and what's he done for us? He's been in prison and injured mostly.
  15. Other clubs fine their players for getting sent off. If Barton has acted the way The Sun says he has he's finished. How can he expect to act like that and keep playing? He must have real mental problems. Once again, let's give thanks to Sam Allardyce for buying him.
  16. What a joke those complaints by the players are (if they are real and aren't made up). Ferguson rules with an iron rod and you don't hear the Man U players complaining.
  17. I read on ICNewcastle that Enrique and S.Taylor are unlikely to be back.
  18. FWIW I think that'll help rather than hinder us. We tend to do ok at home when teams actually come to play football. Top four excluded!
  19. Absolutely ages away. :-[ Hopefully the extra day or two will help to get a few injured players back (without picking up any new injuries in training). It may also help with the planning for a do or die game and hammering that point home to our players.
  20. Newcastle played well for the first 15 minutes or so against Liverpool. You could say "If we play like that in our other games we'll be safe" but it doesn't work like that.
  21. We better beat Middlesbrough then because Middlesbrough have Aston Villa at home to come.
  22. True. That's what will be so gutting if we go down. In theory it wouldn't take much to get out of the shit but doing it is another thing. It's like Frank Skinner said on MOTD2 yesterday "There's 5 clubs fighting to be relegated".
  23. I think it would be more effective if Shearer just picked up a mic, walked into the centre circle and gave a rousing speech to the crowd before the game.
  24. Alves... Scoring? Does not compute To be fair, someone suggested Jonas scoring in this very thread. Which is the less likely? *Why does Jonas do the crucifix sign twice when walking on to the pitch? He needs a new God because his current one does nothing for him.
